Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Work with the Board of Trustees to set and deliver the charity’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities.
- Provide clear, evidence-based advice and recommendations to the Board, ensuring effective governance and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Position the charity as a recognised leader in tackling inequality and poverty in the borough, particularly the North Kensington area.
- Maintain financial oversight taking a strategic approach to managing Dalgarno Trust’s finances in a sustainable way – ensuring adequate reserves are maintained.
- Ensure effective short, medium, and long-term financial planning is in place throughout the different levels of the organisation. Provide effective scrutiny by working with Dalgarno Trust’s accountants and finance personnel.
Income Generation & Fundraising
- Lead a sustainable income generation strategy, including accessing trust and foundation fundraising, corporate sponsorships, statutory grants, and social enterprise opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with funders and donors to maximise opportunities for growth and diversification of income.
- Ensure effective financial management, monitoring, and reporting of a c.£750k annual budget.
Partnerships & Place-Leadership
- Develop and maintain partnerships with voluntary, public, and private sector organisations to aid joint delivery of services.
- Represent the Dalgarno Trust in local strategic forums, influencing public policy and service design to reflect community needs.
- Strengthen the charity’s role as an anchor organisation and hub for community activity and leadership.

Sitopia Farm is a modern, urban farm located in Greenwich, SE London, dedicated to reconnecting people with the origins of their food and promoting a healthier, more equitable and sustainable food system. As a hub for community engagement, education, and regenerative, organic farming practices, Sitopia Farm is a space for cultivating not only crops but also ideas about a better future for food and farming.
We have been successful to date in raising money for our farm including through crowdfunding, grants and other sources, but are embarking on the next stage in our development: an ambitious project to raise £650,000 to build an eco-barn: a sustainable structure that will serve as the heart of our operations. Role Overview:
Sitopia Farm is seeking a part-time freelance Fundraising Consultant to lead all aspects of fundraising, with a specific focus on securing the £650,000 needed for our eco-barn project. This is a critical role that offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact by helping us bring this vision to life. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in fundraising strategy, grant writing, major donor engagement, and ideally an understanding of capital campaigns. We have had a strong track record in securing smaller amounts of funding to date and have a strong network and potential opportunities that this role could capitalise on.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fundraising Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy principally to secure c. £650,000 for the eco-barn project and support and develop fundraising for other farm activities as required.
- Identify and pursue diverse funding streams, including grants, corporate sponsorships, major donors, as well as crowdfunding and events.
2. Grant Writing and Proposal Development
- Research and apply for grants from trusts, foundations, and public funding bodies.
- Write compelling funding proposals tailored to funders’ priorities and ensure timely submission.
3. Major Donor and Corporate Engagement
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with high-net-worth individuals, corporate sponsors, and other key stakeholders.
- Develop tailored donor engagement plans, including pitches and impact reports.
4. Campaigns and Events
- Plan and execute an innovative fundraising campaign to raise awareness and funds for the eco-barn project.
- Work in partnership with external event advisers and in collaboration with the wider Sitopia Farm team to create successful fundraising events.
- Collaborate with the Sitopia Farm team to create engaging content and materials.
5. Project Management and Reporting
- Track and monitor fundraising progress against targets, providing regular updates to the team.
- Ensure compliance with funders’ requirements and support the Sitopia Farm team to deliver impact reports as needed.
Essential:
- Proven track record of leading successful fundraising initiatives, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
- Excellent skills in a range of fundraising techniques, in particular major donors, trusts and foundations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; confident in building relationships with donors, businesses, and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of the UK fundraising landscape, fundraising regulation and code of practice.
- Strong organisational skills- capable of managing multiple income streams with strong attention to detail and great record-keeping and project management.
- Ability to work independently and drive results in a part-time, freelance capacity.
Desirable:
- Passion for sustainability, regenerative agriculture, and community-building projects.
- Experience of fundraising for a capital project.
- Experience of event and campaign management/ ability to work with others to deliver those aspects of the strategy.
- Knowledge of AI tools to enhance efficiency of fundraising.

Who We Are
Our charity was established in 1992, to provide care and support to people in Sussex, living with and affected by HIV. Over the past three decades there have been huge advances in treatment and care for those affected by the virus. People taking effective anti-retroviral medication (ART’s) can live long lives, with HIV becoming undetectable and untransmittable.
Whilst people who are living with HIV can live longer, many develop other physical co-morbidities as they age and many experience social and self-stigma. Our service users are often from marginalised groups, who often experience inter-sectional discrimination and health inequalities. Many of our service users experience socio-economic disadvantage and have multiple and complex needs.
The Sussex Beacon offers a range of services to people who have been living with HIV for decades through to those who are newly diagnosed. Our services include:

· Community Outreach Support Services
· Peer Mentoring
· Living Well Exercise Programme
· Day Services and Group Work
In addition to our HIV services, The Sussex Beacon has announced that it is to become a fully inclusive Hospice, providing dedicated Hospice care to the LGBTQ+ community.
The Sussex Beacon has two charity shops in Brighton and an active fundraising team, who help raise the money we need to keep our services running for the people who need them across Sussex.
The Role
This is an exciting time for The Sussex Beacon, as we are about to launch our new 2030 Strategic Plan and move to a new era of delivery, through the evolution of our end of life and palliative care for the LGBTQ+ community. The Sussex Beacon will be the first Hospice of its kind in the country tackling stigma and health inequalities for those who are most marginalised in our community.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Mass Participation Lead to join our Income Generation team. Working alongside the Head of Income, you’ll take the lead on planning, delivering, and growing our portfolio of mass participation events, including some of the UK’s most iconic runs:
- Brighton Half Marathon – proudly owned by The Sussex Beacon
- London Marathon
- Brighton Marathon
- Vitality 10k
- London Landmarks Half Marathon
- Great South Run
- Red Run
In addition, you’ll collaborate with the Head of Income on the development and launch of two exciting new events scheduled for 2026/2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on all aspects of mass participation fundraising events, from recruitment and engagement of participants to event-day logistics and post-event stewardship.
- Develop and implement creative campaigns to maximise participant sign-ups, fundraising income, and supporter retention.
- Build strong relationships with participants, corporate partners, and event organisers to enhance The Sussex Beacon’s presence and reputation.
- Support the Head of Income in the strategic growth of the events programme and delivery of income targets.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the Senior Management team to build your understanding of our work and the needs of people living with HIV, LGBTQ+ end of life and palliative care needs and broader health inequalities in the communities we serve.
- Work collaboratively with our Volunteer Co-ordinator to ensure that events are adequately supported.
- Develop and enhance our existing celebrity/high profile runner engagement.
