Role description

As we begin to grow, we’re looking for a highly experienced Head of Finance & Compliance to ensure best-in-class financial governance, statutory obligations, and operational compliance.

This is a senior, hands-on role ideal for someone who has worked in a similar capacity within the charity or social enterprise sector. You’ll take ownership of our financial reporting, charity and company filings, risk management processes, and ensure we’re meeting all regulatory requirements — so our team can focus on delivery with confidence.

Key responsibilities

Finance

• Oversee day-to-day financial processes, working closely with external accountants.

• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes alongside the CEO.

• Monitor cash flow, manage financial risk, and prepare internal finance reports for the Board.

• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of annual accounts and external audit process.

• Support fundraising by preparing financial inputs for grant proposals and reports.

Governance & Compliance

• Act as Company Secretary: manage Board meetings, minutes, filings, and statutory record-keeping.

• Ensure full compliance with Companies House, Charity Commission, HMRC, and other statutory bodies.

• Maintain and update key internal policies (e.g. safeguarding, data protection, finance policy).

• Support risk register maintenance and ensure appropriate insurance coverage.

• Work closely with the CEO on contract management and legal compliance.

What we're looking for

• Significant experience in a senior finance, governance, or company secretarial role in the charity or non-profit sector.

• Strong working knowledge of UK charity finance and regulatory obligations. The organisation will be making grants from an early stage, so experience with grant-giving will be highly valuable.

• Excellent attention to detail, reliability, and professional integrity.

• Confident managing external advisers and auditors.

• Comfort with ambiguity and excitement at the prospect of an entrepreneurial, mission-driven organisation

• Passion for improving numeracy, providing opportunity, and social impact.

• Relevant qualifications (e.g. ICSA, ACCA, ACA, or CIPFA) are desirable but not essential if equivalent experience is demonstrated.

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Store Manager to join Barnardo's on a Full Time, Permanent Basis.

As a Store Manager you will manage the day to day running of our Newark Store, leading a team of colleagues to maximise store sales and profits. By doing so you will play a crucial role in raising the funds for the amazing services and support Barnardo's provides for children, young people, parents, and carers across the UK.

Location: 15/17 Slaughter House Lane, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG24 1ER

Working Pattern: As the store is open 7 days a week, the successful post holder will be required to on a rota basis which will include weekend, evening, and bank holiday working.

There is good public transport links near the store.

Some but not all key responsibilities are:

• Ensuring stock is generated over the door by members of the public and donors sign up to the Gift Aid scheme.
• Ensure that the high standard of service to customers that is expected by Barnardo's is maintained at all times.
• Implement promotions in the Store as directed by Head Office or your Area Business Manager.
• Maintain a high standard of presentation, both in the windows and the interior of the Store.
• Ensure there is adequate stock available on the shop floor, at all times, on all key lines
• Provide training, development, work reviews and appraisals for paid staff to enable them to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively.
• Create an organised and pleasant working environment for staff and volunteers.
• Actively recruit the correct/specified number volunteers to deliver the stores objectives and KPI's.
• Ensure all financial, cash handling and security procedures are adhered to as per the Barnardo's Manager's Manual and the relevant Retail procedures.
• Hold the shop keys, ensuring that the shop is secure whenever it is left unattended.

Idea Candidates Must Haves:

• Ability to deliver excellent customer service.
• Experience of managing people
• Ability to liaise and respond to a variety of people from varying backgrounds.
• Ability to meet the needs of customers on a face-to-face basis, in order to generate sales and increase customer usage of the shop.
• Ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply up to four figures in order to maintain budgets and complete accurately weekly income/banking sheets.
• Ability to handle cash and reconcile accurately.
• Proven experience of meeting targets and KPI's.
• Basic IT skills.

Aim of the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Hair and Beauty Facilitator to create engaging learning experiences for small groups of students with a range of complex needs. This role involves planning and delivering practical, hands-on sessions in hair and beauty, as well as developing students’ independence and work-readiness skills.

You will help students contribute to the development of the college’s outdoor and internal environments, creating meaningful work-based learning opportunities that align with their interests and aspirations.

 

Key responsibilities

Design and deliver a differentiated Hair and Beauty curriculum tailored to a wide range of learning needs.

• Lead practical sessions in hair styling, self-care, and basic beauty routines.
• Model and teach hygiene routines, such as: Hair washing, drying, and brushing Oral care and toothbrushing, Facial cleansing and skincare Nail care and grooming
• Support learners to develop independence using visual aids, social stories, and step-by-step guidance.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with learners to support their emotional and social development.
• Plan and prepare classroom activities and resources to promote work-based learning.
• Develop and facilitate work experience opportunities in line with the college’s work

About You

You will be passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and bring creativity and structure to vocational learning. Ideally, you will have:

• A Level 3 qualification in a relevant vocational area (e.g. Hair & Beauty Therapy)
• Experience working in an education setting with learners with additional needs
• Ability to plan and deliver vocational activities in a learning environment

Engaging with the community to drive repeat custom, stock donation, volunteer recruitment and community involvement.

Managing volunteers and ensuring all staff and volunteers are following Marie Curie procedures and guidelines.

In the absence of the Retail Manager, taking responsibility for the overall management and operation of the store.

Key Criteria: 

Previous retail experience, preferably in fashion/clothing.

Experience of cash handling and financial management procedures (including completion of sales records).

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-first attitude and the ability to communicate with tact and discretion,

Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload, balancing competing demands.

Understanding of health and safety procedures in a retail environment.

What you’ll do 
As a Wellbeing Practitioner you will work in partnership with schools, children and families to assess and respond to the psychological needs of children experiencing social, emotional, mental health or behavioural difficulties through undertaking assessments and providing interventions. The post-holders will also: contribute to workshops, support to school staff in the identification of mental health needs of children and accessing appropriate resources; and actively contribute to outcome monitoring and service improvement. You will build relationships with peer/senior members of staff, service users, partners, other services, schools, commissioners, as well as other external agencies with families being the main point of contact. You will also deliver consultation, training, and workshop to non-mental health staff, such as teachers and social workers with other clinicians in the service.

What you’ll bring 
You will have a qualification in psychology or other discipline related to mental health to deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people.

Essential skills and experience:

• Experience of working therapeutically, implementing interventions and using routine outcome measures in therapy with children and you people in community or school settings including Looked After Children and young people;
• Experience of working cross-culturally as well as thinking about cultural issues in relation to clinical practice;
• Experience of maintaining appropriate records and have good awareness of confidentiality and current childcare and safeguarding legislation, policy and practice;
• Ability to form good working relationships in a multi-disciplinary setting and work independently where necessary;

Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

• Work with managers to refine job descriptions, post roles, and advertise vacancies effectively.

Your role will be to further develop and implement the programme’s activities in schools, with focus on 15 priority wards. You will coordinate activities including housing rights awareness sessions, partner agency involvement and chair the programme’s steering group and develop a coordination group which will oversee activities across the @HOME schools.

You will have an excellent understanding and empathy for families affected by the housing emergency and be able to champion Shelter’s work in Manchester. You are experienced at complex project management using a range of techniques and are able to use evidence to influence systemic change. JOB PURPOSE 

Reporting to the Director of People, the Head of People Services is responsible for leading the delivery of a quality and customer focused core people service to MSF UK.
