Job description

As we enter a major expansion phase to develop more services that Deaf people want and need, we are looking to appoint our first ever Policy Officer to help us do this. This successful candidate will educate national and local governments, education and health bodies about Deaf people’s needs for accessible services and influence policy to meet those needs. This is a part time role 25 - 30 hours per week. This is a home based position but we are ideally looking for a candidate based in London, Essex or the South East who is prepared to travel across the UK.

You must have experience of working within a government body or major charity in a policy or similar role and also of planning, collating, evaluating and presenting research. You will need highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, be an accomplished presenter and have the ability to engage authoritatively and persuasively. You will be flexible, a creative thinker and quick to identify and respond to opportunities.

We offer flexible working and generous pension contributions.  Your work will make a positive difference to the lives of Deaf people across Britain.

Essential requirements:

  • Proven ability to build, manage and develop key Stakeholder relationships
  • Experience in performance monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience of prioritising workload when working on and managing multiple tasks
  • Highly motivated and able to work autonomously, take initiative and make decisions
  • Energy, enthusiasm and flair to work hard and achieve ambitious targets
  • Flexible and positive approach to change
  • Ability to prepare briefings and other papers to a very high standard and present complex material in an engaging manner

This post is subject to two references. Both have to be satisfactory to RAD. Please send CV and covering letter.

Closing date for applications: Friday 11th October 2019

Interview date:  Wednesday 30th October 2019 (Interviews will be held in London and reasonable travel expenses can be reclaimed)
