Head of Policy & Evidence
Salary: £39,025 - £44,174

This is a new role, to expand and enhance our policy and evidence work in support of the Trust’s strategic goals so that we can demonstrate the impact of our programmes and provide the evidence for effective campaigns on key decisions for nature.
What you will be doing:

Expand and improve impact measurement across the trust, and report on our impact to trustees and to partners.

Represent SWT in the development of Shropshire’s local nature recovery strategy and nature recovery network.
-
Lead on evidence-based campaigns on key regional issues, and support campaigns at national level.
-
Oversee the development of SWT’s geographical information systems (GIS) and databases as part of the national digital strategy.

Help the Trust to achieve net-zero by 2030 and inspire others to do the same.

Respond to significant planning applications.

Refine and embed SWT’s ‘theory of change’.
What we’re looking for:

Strong analytical skills, including a good understanding of quantitative and qualitative research, are essential.

The ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments, and with external partners, is essential.

Significant knowledge of conservation, ecology, climate and/or public health policy are desirable.

Experience of strategic planning including the use of theory of change is desirable.

Experience of carbon accounting is desirable.

An understanding of the local authority planning system is desirable.

The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will be an experienced public affairs professional with a passion for nature and understanding of National Parks.
The successful applicant will join our senior management team, managing the Policy and Public Affairs team and work with the Executive Director to help develop and drive the NPE policy and public affairs strategy, working closely with stakeholders in our member National Parks and the wider Protected Landscapes family.

About CleanupUK
We’re a small charity that brings communities together to create cleaner, connected and safer urban and rural neighbourhoods by tackling the litter problems where they live. Litter-picking brings people closer together, enables neighbours to meet one another other and helps create a greater sense of pride and community in local areas.
Historically, we have delivered litter-picking focussed community engagement projects in London and Birmingham. Our current focus is developing partnerships with community organisations across England to expand our reach and increase impact.
Main duties of the role

To provide a pro-active, high-quality administration and support service to the Operational Team, Chief Executive and the Corporate Partnerships team.
Operational Team: Deals with logistics, processes and day to day functions of our work on the ground with community partners and volunteers.

To attend weekly team meetings

To assist in research into new areas of operation for the charity.

To oversee orders of equipment and printed resources to our partners with various suppliers around the country.

To maintain meticulous records regarding our growing national Cleanup Hub network of community partners.

To collate statistics and create regular reports of programme activity, using our website and new database.

To provide help and advice to enquiries that come through our information email inbox. This could include; helping people access their profiles on our website or advising them as to how to get involved in community litter picking activity.

To use Mail Chimp to send mailers to our partners and followers.

Database Management, to take a pro-active role in our upcoming database development project, considering how best to structure, store and export data. Following the launch of the database lead on database development and maintenance, such as an annual data cleanse.

To assist with setting up, maintaining and updating database information, Community Cleanup Hub registrations, profiles and filing systems, ensuring that data handling complies with GDPR requirements.

To assist with staff recruitment and induction processes.
Chief Executive: leads our strategic direction / reports to the Trustees

To organise board meetings; booking diary dates, venues, catering and taking minutes.

To attend and take detailed minutes at board meetings and any other meetings required.

To process invoices, expense claims and credit card statements.

Guided by the latest science we carry out research, influence environmental policy and conserve and create bumblebee friendly habitats. We inspire people and organisations to take action for our precious bumblebees, working together to help them thrive.
To help deliver this mission, you will be a motivated, resilient self-starter with a can-do attitude. An excellent and engaging all-round communicator, you will enjoy a busy role developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; solutions-oriented; and able to deal with challenges and change.
You will have a keen eye for detail, an organised approach to your work, with ability to work to strict deadlines and an ability to enthuse people about the plight of our furry winged warriors.
Your primary role will be to work closely with the fundraising, conservation, science and engagement staff and external partners to identify and develop projects.This involves identifying and securing project funding through lottery, trusts and foundations alongside nurturing unrestricted income for the Trust’s work from grant making trusts and foundations.
