KidsOut’s core mission is to provide support designed to improve emotional, educational and social outcomes for children and young people who are facing numerous adverse childhood experiences associated with domestic abuse, poverty, family breakdown or ill health. We do this by providing joy filled experiences, practical and emotional support, and facilitating therapeutic or educational initiatives that strive to empower each child or young person to overcome adversity, unlock their full potential, and flourish in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
KidsOut’s support is offered to every child in a Women’s Aid refuge and over 100 independent refuges as well as children and young people experiencing crisis and challenge from some of the most marginalised and disadvantaged communities across the UK. Many of the 70,000 children and young people we support have undergone traumatic experiences, which can cause significant harm to their psychological development, their emotional wellbeing, their school life and their relationships.
We aim is to restore some normality and provide comfort to these traumatised children and young people though our programme of wellbeing amd educational activities. Our multi-faceted activities include fun days out, music, sport and art workshops as well as delivery of our bespoke Toyboxes to every child arriving at refuge. Additionally, for young people struggling to cope with their mental health we collaborate with regional partners to offer face-to-face sessions that offer specialist support and coping strategies to build resilience and improve emotional wellbeing.
In your role of Trust and Partnerships Officer you will be actively involved in the provision of these positive initiatives by applying your excellent research and relationship management skills to help develop a pipeline of income from charitable trusts and corporate foundations with the potential to support our wide range of projects. You will identify and develop compelling applications to secure funding through various funding sources, that not only contributes to the financial team target but makes a difference to the UK's most vulnerable children.
Key Duties:
- You will write compelling and successful funding applications to Charitable Trusts, Statutory funds and other grant making organisations.
- You’ll keep up to date on the UK grant funding market and trends
- You’ll build and maintain grants and partnership pipeline, seeking out new prospects and opportunities to support existing and new projects.
- You’ll ensure compliant and organised information filing on SharePoint and CRM to facilitate access to relevant information for colleagues and ensure smooth collaboration.
- You’ll produce and update internal income generation reports
- You’ll work flexibly, adapting to rapid changes and opportunities.
- Support volunteers and interns within the Grants and Partnership fundraising team.
- Work across teams to develop projects and align with funders criteria.
- You’ll collaborate across fundraising, sharing ideas, learnings and encouraging creativity and innovation.
- You’ll be prepared to represent the team at workshops and events as required (may require occasional evening/weekend work).
- You’ll assist the Fundraising Team with other fundraising appeals/events when necessary.
- You'll comply with all current charity law and data protection legislation (i.e. GDPR) and ensure that the Code of Fundraising Practice, as stipulated by the Fundraising Regulator and best practice is adhered to.

The key responsibilities of this Purchase Ledger Officer include:

About the HSA
The Humane Slaughter Association is a unique charity which promotes the welfare of farmed animals ‘Beyond the Farm Gate’; at markets, during transport, at slaughter, and when animals must be killed in emergencies.
Our vision is of a world where all farmed animals are transported and killed humanely and our mission is to research, advance and promote the use of humane methods for the transport, slaughter and killing of farmed animals.
We do this by offering practical advice, education, ad training to all those involved in transport, slaughter, or emergency killing of livestock animals, as well as by funding scientific research to develop more humane approaches. Although we are based in the UK, the charity is international and works worldwide.
Technical Officer – training and education
The postholder for this role will play a central role in developing and maintaining our educational and training resources. This will enable us to promote humane transport and slaughter of farmed animals to a diverse audience through multiple channels, including face-to-face teaching and training, online written and audio-visual material as well as interactive e-learning.
In collaboration with colleagues, the postholder will be responsible for the development of learning and training materials including information on our website, e-learning material, video training, lecture material etc.
A key component of this role will be to take complex scientific and technical information and tailor it to a diverse range of audiences around the world.
Another important route by which HSA promotes humane transport and slaughter is through conferences, symposia, and webinars. The postholder will be closely involved in the organisation and deliver of these events.
Key Skills, Qualifications and Attributes
Essential
· A degree in agriculture, life science, veterinary medicine (or a related field) or equivalent professional experience.
· An understanding of the basic principles of animal welfare at slaughter.
· Comfortable with working with and producing material which describes the slaughter process in detail.
· A demonstrable ability to summarise complex information for a range of audiences with different levels of technical expertise.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Strong IT skills ideally including experience with MS office and SharePoint, as well as software for creation of visual content (ideally including PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva).
· Experience of preparing and delivering oral and written presentations/reports to a varied audience
· Ability to work to targets, with excellent organisational skills.
· Team player, but comfortable working alone when necessary.
Desirable
· Expertise in animal welfare at slaughter and/or during transport (this expertise could have been gained though working with the livestock industry or as an educator, veterinarian, animal welfare researcher, regulator, or policymaker).
· A postgraduate qualification, ideally in animal welfare or a related area.
· A qualification in teaching and learning at the higher or further education level (e.g. FHEA).
· Understanding of the laws and regulations relating to the welfare of animals (in the UK and/or elsewhere) undergoing transport and slaughter.
· Expertise in the welfare of farmed or wild-caught aquatic animals.
· Website editing and design expertise.
· Skills in video content creation and editing.
· Experience of using social media including Twitter/X, LinkedIn and/or YouTube to deliver animal welfare or technical information.
· Experience of using learning management systems or online course delivery platforms to deliver educational material.
· Experience of event planning and organisation (e.g. scientific conferences)

Personal Attributes
The candidate must be comfortable with the charity’s approach to animal welfare which includes co-operation with the livestock and slaughter industries. Whilst the HSA wishes to ensure the highest standards of welfare for animals farmed for food or other products, it does not oppose the slaughter of animals per se. Candidates must be comfortable working within the livestock industry and other key stakeholders whilst striving to ensure the humane treatment of animals undergoing transport or slaughter.

The Role
This is a brilliant opportunity to join a newly created fundraising products team that's responsible for both new and innovative product development and our sector leading virtual events programme. As the Fundraising Products Officer, you'll be instrumental in delivering and refining a diverse range of innovative fundraising products. Your key focus will be on meeting net income targets while ensuring an exceptional experience for our supporters. Reporting to the Fundraising Products Manager and with direct oversight of the Fundraising Products Assistant you'll be driving initiatives to attract, nurture, and retain supporters.
Collaborating closely with colleagues across the community and events teams, you'll contribute to developing new propositions to engage both existing and untapped audiences. Throughout, you'll be encouraged and supported to explore, experiment, and think outside the box.
Responsibilities:
Product and Project Management
- To help plan, deliver and develop portfolio of products, across both virtual events, community and event fundraising disciplines, to achieve KPIs and income targets.
- To project manage and lead on the successful delivery of fundraising products, ensuring clear schedules are in place and internal teams and other stakeholders are briefed and managed appropriately.
- To develop and deliver communication and content plans, maximising engagement from supporters and, in turn, remittance and average gift.
Supporter Care and Stewardship
- To help develop, and lead on the delivery of, effective and engaging cross-channel supporter journeys for participants including, but not limited to, email, social and direct mail, and develop resources, content and materials as required.
- To test and optimise supporter journeys to maximise remittance, average gift and retention, taking recommendations forward to provide the best possible supporter experience and ensure KPIs are met or exceeded.
Marketing and Digital
- To work with the fundraising products manager, internal teams and the community & events marketing team to develop effective marketing activity.
- To help develop approaches and assets, such as content and resources, for products in your care to drive engagement from supporters, remittance and average gift, across a range of channels.
- To work with digital engagement and the community & events marketing team to monitor and report on performance, including the most effective channels, creative and audiences, to help ensure investment is maximised.
About You
Ideally, you will be someone with a real drive and a passion for charity fundraising. Who is digitally focused, driven by insight and understands the importance of great stewardship experience.
You'll have experience in a range of fundraising activities including virtual events. Adept at supporter stewardship and journeys through a variety of channels, such as digital communities, phone, and email. You'll have a proven track record of achieving and exceeding KPIs. As Fundraising Training and Engagement Officer, working with a Direct Marketing Manager, you will deliver inspiring training presentations to agency face to face fundraisers, and work with the agency to help them deliver their own training sessions.
You will work closely with all key services areas of the charity and the wider operations team, to create and develop content to inspire fundraisers for all training materials.

Key responsibilities:

Planning & Organising
- Work alongside the DM Manager as a contact for agency partners and campaign activity.
- Assist on the development of operational plans for multiple fundraising campaigns, along with analysing results to ensure ROI is delivered.
Administration Duties
- Reviewing and recording all invoices.
- Maintain training materials and stock of marketing and training materials.
To be successful as the Fundraising Training and Engagement Officer, you will be able to demonstrate prior skills and experiences in the following areas:
- Presenting or communications information to large groups, either face to face or via a remote setting.
- Engaging, inspiring and motivating others to achieve targets and deliver against campaign objectives.
- Working with PowerPoint and Excel to create, deliver and develop training programmes.
Additional desirable skills, though these skills are not essential, are areas such as:
- Managing the performance of external agencies to deliver successful campaign.
- An understanding of fundraising compliance and data protection.
