The Role: This is an exciting new position for a highly motivated, organized, and analytical individual with the opportunity to make a real difference in a growing organization. As our Government Fundraising Specialist, you will be at the forefront of implementing our government fundraising strategy. This role involves a blend of research, advocacy, strategic proposal development, and guidance on contractual and donor compliance. You will join a dynamic, hard-working team responsible for securing 90% of the organization's revenue. Your work will focus on a new two-pronged approach: targeting governments at both the capital and local embassy levels in the regions where we operate our grantmaking programs, with the goal of making this revenue stream a significant component of our organizational budget in the coming years. You will not be starting from scratch, as we currently have secured government funding, as well as numerous relationships with governments that can be leveraged. And you will work in partnership with many colleagues across departments who will contribute to the success of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organizational Preparation: Help prepare the organization for success in securing new government funding by developing internal systems, processes, and workflows necessary for effective engagement and management.
- Strategy Development: Contribute to refining and enhancing the government fundraising strategy to align with organizational goals and emerging opportunities.
- Research & Identification: Explore international cooperation trends and the government donor landscape and identify promising funding opportunities.
- Partnerships: Build and maintain strategic partnerships with other organizations to extend our reach and impact.
- Bid Leadership: Oversee the internal bid process, crafting compelling proposals, coordinating cross-departmental efforts, and ensuring timely submissions.
- Policy Analysis: Review and analyze government policy papers to guide strategic funding approaches and inform bids.
- Advocacy: Advocate for our cause within government circles to boost our visibility and secure essential support and help prepare the organization to participate in multi-lateral spaces, organizing side meetings, developing talking points, etc.
- Networking: Build relationships with stakeholders in the philanthropic and international development sectors, including donors, peers, INGOs, and UN agencies to explore areas of collaboration.
- Thought Leadership: Contribute to influential thought leadership pieces to position our organization as a key partner of choice in the sector.
- Compliance: Communicate with internal stakeholders to help ensure strict adherence to all relevant regulations and reporting requirements for government funding.
- Management & Evaluation: Help prepare the project management team to effectively manage a grant by helping to strengthen, and where needed develop, tools and processes to gather necessary information and evaluate the impact of our government grants.
Skills for Success: To excel in this role, you will need:
- Expertise: At least 7 years of experience in fundraising for international human rights, social justice and/or development cooperation, with a proven track record of securing funding from government donors through both relationship building and competitive bids.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of the government donor landscape and grant processes.
- Compliance Savvy: Strong grasp of compliance requirements related to government grants and experience in working with internal colleagues to prepare organizations to meet these requirements.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Proven leadership skills combined with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Communication: Exceptional writing, research, and communication abilities.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret complex government policy papers and funding opportunities.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English, and proficiency in Spanish, French, Arabic or another language a bonus, but not essential.

We are working in partnership with Weston Hospicecare, a highly regarded local charity founded by the local community over 30 years ago. They are the major provider of specialist palliative care in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, and Sedgemoor, providing free of charge physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual care to local people.
A new Director of Fundraising is sought to provide inspiring leadership to the fundraising function of Weston Hospicecare, implementing a fundraising strategy that will build voluntary income from its current level of £2 million per annum to provide long-term and sustainable income sources for the Hospice. They are at a very exciting time in their development and have created a new role of Director of Fundraising & Communications to help them on their journey. This a new role that will play a crucial part in shaping the future of the charity as well as securing the resources to deliver sustainable growth in the work and impact of the charity.
Going forward their work will be delivered though a distinctive and coherent Community Hub model, which will be holistic, person-centred, integrated, joined-up, and promote a partnership approach. They also purchased The Vassall Centre in 2021, with long term plans to redevelop the site for community benefit.
In the short term they plan to relaunch the Vassall Centre as a standout, accessible, and affordable workspace venue for charitable organisations. Their community Hubs will include directly delivered Bristol Charities programmes/projects, services delivered by local partners, and services delivered by their strategic partners. They are also looking to increase the number of housing units they manage, either through development of their existing sites, through acquisition of new sites or through partnership working with other local housing providers, and any new Housing Schemes will incorporate the new Hub model.
Bristol Charities now need to recruit an experienced, passionate, and entrepreneurial fundraising professional; someone who is capable of not only overseeing a small but growing communications function, but who also recognises the importance of aligning fundraising and communications strategies and activity.

Individuals can reach out to Beat online or by phone, where they will be listened to, helped to understand the illness, and supported in taking positive steps towards recovery.

The Role
Beat is seeking someone with the ambition, creativity, and drive to build on its recent success and help the organisation reach a new level of influence and impact. The ideal candidate may already be working at the Director level or may be looking to step up into the Director role after leading a successful team within a larger fundraising function.
Person specification
- Significant experience at a senior level in a fundraising function with good understanding of all aspects of charity fundraising and a proven track record of raising significant sums and managing relationships in at least one key area.
- Experience in developing and monitoring the implementation of strategies, budgets and operational plans.

Location: Home based but with travel nationally as required and regular travel to Leeds base.

Day One, the charity that helps people rebuild their lives after catastrophic injury, is seeking an inspiring leader to create a strong, sustainable plan for their fundraising and communications team and build on solid fundraising foundations to grow income.
Day One is a young, ambitious national charity dedicated to supporting people impacted by catastrophic injury. They currently deliver dedicated services in six regions and have a presence in seven NHS Major Trauma Centres. They also provide a national support service to people anywhere in the UK. Day One works extremely closely with NHS clinical services, delivering support at the bedside in the immediate aftermath of a major trauma, but also has a strong focus on the trauma networks and wider community where people are often alone and isolated trying to recover from their injuries.
Day One was registered as a charity in May 2021 and since that time has embarked on an incredible journey of development and expansion. With a growing, loyal and valued community of supporters and a powerful sphere of influence, the charity wants to do much more, aiming to have a presence across all NHS Major Trauma Centres and networks across the UK.
Key to that ambition will be a new Fundraising and Communications Director. This is a great role for an experienced senior fundraising leader to shape the charity’s future direction, building on an extremely successful start and a commitment from the Board and leadership team to invest in the right candidate who can deliver a compelling vision for fundraising and communications.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the role will provide leadership and guidance on fundraising and communications as well as sitting on the Senior Leadership Team. The post-holder will be responsible for developing and delivering a fundraising strategy that has the right balance of ambition and realism for the next three to five years, and to grow income to £1million over the next four years, taking advantage of the unique fundraising opportunity that is available to the charity at this current time.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of securing significant gifts and partnerships, as well as substantial experience of senior fundraising leadership. You will be a strategic thinker with strong financial acumen and excellent communication skills. You will understand the impact and importance of storytelling in driving income and of how fundraising and communications can be managed effectively together to support income growth. An understanding of healthcare-related charities would be an advantage.

About You
