Title of Post: Financial Assistant

Responsible to: Head of HR & Administration

Hours: 32 hours per week

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The main responsibility of this role is to assist the Head of Resources in the efficient and smooth running of financial functional activities of the charity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Process and prepare financial and business forms for the purpose of checking account balances, facilitating purchases, etc.

2. Perform routine calculations to produce analyses and reports as requested by the Head of Resources and assisting in developing and maintaining all financial reporting within the charity.

3. Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of the charity’s annual income and expenditure budget.

4. Assisting in monthly bank reconciliations and other balance sheet accounts.

5. Dealing with finance related queries from staff, senior management, supporters, and suppliers.

6. Maintenance and reconciliation of direct debits, standing orders and other online donations.

7. Supporting the financial controller in the planning and preparation of statutory accounts and the annual audit.

8. Ensuring accurate gift aid records are maintained for supporters and conducting the annual gift aid claim.

9. Assisting in the maintenance of all accounting records on an ongoing basis to ensure:.

             a.   All income and expenditure are properly approved, banked and processed in a timely manner.

             b.   Monthly cash/cheque management and bank reconciliations are carried out and recorded.

10. Undertaking any other accounting duties that may be required and providing cover when other staff are absent.

We are seeking a successful candidate who will:

• Lead the financial accounting team of the RBL group to ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements and tax.
• Lead the RBL’s transactional processing teams with focus on cash collection, treasury management, payroll and accounts payable.
• Lead the development of RBL’s Finance systems to drive productivity within Finance and the wider organisation.

As a Director of Financial Accounts you will also play a key role in:

• contributing to the three-year Strategic Plan with the emphasis on the financial framework and develop supporting strategies alongside an annual plan for the team
• overseeing medium term plans for delivery of the year end, audit and major projects with a typical timeframe of 6-12 months.
• maintaining a system of internal financial controls, policies, delegated authorities and procedures to safeguard Legion funds and ensure that funds are spent in line with charity law, applicable accounting standards and (where relevant) donor wishes
• overseeing the Business Processes function (including Payroll, Payables, Receivables and Cash & Banking), supporting the Head of Business Processes to devise and maintain appropriate processes and controls
• ensuring that business critical systems are appropriately supported and maintained, that risks are appropriately managed and that external suppliers deliver a good level of customer service.
• The breadth of the Royal British Legion’s activities and income streams mean that our accounts are highly complex and we are subject to a raft of external laws and regulation. You will be responsible for ensuring that we are compliant and have robust controls in place, whilst also giving advice that is pragmatic and recognises the challenges of front-line delivery.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

1. Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for senior leadership and trustees.

2. Analyse financial performance against budget and forecasts, providing variance explanations.

Financial Planning and Strategy:

8. Lead on the development of long-term financial strategies to support the organisation's goals and objectives.

9. Conduct financial modelling and scenario analysis to support business planning, block grant discussions with the University, and external funding applications.

10.  Through the finance risk register and annual operational planning, identify financial risks and opportunities, offering strategic recommendations.

Payroll:

11.  To manage the payroll and ensure that payments and returns to the HMRC are completed as required, including monthly RTI.

12.  To ensure that all pension requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner.

Compliance and Audit:

13.  Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, charity regulations, and internal policies.

14.  Liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.

15.  Work with the University of Northampton to ensure that Northampton Students’ Union is complying with UON internal audit recommendations.

16.  Maintain accurate and comprehensive financial records.

Stakeholder Management:

Job Purpose

As a Debt Advisor, you will play a crucial role in delivering tailored debt advice and money coaching sessions to NHS staff. Your responsibilities will include conducting financial capability workshops, supporting clients in managing their finances effectively, and maintaining detailed case records.

Scope of Role

The Debt Advisor (NHS Advice) will empower NHS staff to achieve financial stability and resilience by providing high-quality, comprehensive debt advice. Your key responsibilities will include:

1. One-on-One Debt Advice and Money Coaching Sessions:

   • Deliver personalized debt advice and money coaching sessions through various channels, including face-to-face, video, and telephone interactions.
   • Utilize sensitive listening and questioning skills to allow clients to explain their financial challenges and empower them to set their own priorities.
   • Research and explore options and implications, enabling informed decision-making.
   • Maximize income opportunities for clients, including benefits, tax, and housing-related matters.
   • Provide in-depth, high-quality advice and ongoing casework, acting on behalf of clients when necessary.

2. Financial Capability Workshops:

   • Conduct financial capability workshops at NHS sites across London, promoting financial resilience and well-being among staff.

3. Detailed Case Records:

   • Maintain accurate and detailed case records, ensuring compliance with auditing and quality standards.
   • Timely documentation of all case-related activities.

4. Collaboration and Referrals:

   • Work collaboratively with NHS staff and other stakeholders to enhance financial resilience within the NHS community.
   • Refer complex cases to senior advisors or the Quality Assurance Team as needed.

5. Key Working Relationships:

Debt Advice Case Manager

About the Role:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide debt advice and money education on a case management basis and to support the provision of advice by volunteers. The post holder will be expected to manage their own cases and lead appointment sessions.

The organisation’s mission is to ‘Restore Dignity and Renew Hope’ to those in our communities brought down by poverty and debt. The job holder will play their part in bringing this vision to reality, supporting clients through what at times can be emotionally difficult situations, to get back on their feet and realise their full potential.

The role combines both technical and pastoral elements. The role will involve building a client case, untangling sometimes complex situations, liaising with creditors, providing guidance for volunteers, and discerning and communicating the appropriate choices and strategies for the client. But you will also need to lead client appointments and support clients through what at times can be emotionally difficult situations.

About you:

We are looking for someone with prior debt advice experience who ideally has experience in leading and supervising volunteers.

Essential skills and experience of the Case Manager include:

• Previous experience in providing regulated debt advice on a case management basis
• Being a DRO intermediary would be an advantage
• Demonstrable experience in providing person-focused support to clients who may be vulnerable
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to show empathy, compassion and patience
• Sound IT skills with a strong command of the Microsoft Office suite

The organisation was established in October 2009 and saw it’s first client in January 2010. Since then, they have provided advice and support to thousands of families and individuals in difficulty. Join AWT as our new Environmental Economist & Nature Recovery Land Buyer and you will make a significant contribution to achieving our goals of creating 1000ha of new habitat by 2030, with the Trust purchasing at least 100ha of new land.  

This exciting area of work offers significant opportunities to tackle the climate and ecological crises. AWT has a wealth of ecological expertise and is a leader in local environmental markets having developed BNG and Bat credits and processes.

You will work with the Senior Leadership Team and expert ecologists, to develop the vision for large-scale land purchases and improvements to our existing reserves.  With your background in environmental economics, you will assess the multiple benefits each project could offer and develop business cases that facilitate investment from the emerging green finance markets. Resulting in a prospectus of land purchase opportunities which will guide the Trust’s ambitions up to 2030.

You will also support the Head of Nature Recovery with land purchases, giving you the chance to input into projects as they develop and see theoretical benefits come to life.

Key Tasks:

· Using  AWT’s Green Finance Review Process, carry out assessments of existing reserves and land on the open market, to enable the creation of a fully costed Land Purchase Prospectus, which will inform AWT’s actions for years to come.

· Lead the acquisition process for AWT's first Nature Recovery land purchase - aiming to be completed by the end of 2024.

· Work closely with senior staff to develop AWT’s customer base for credit sales. Initially focusing on Biodiversity Net Gain, bat credits and carbon credits.

We are looking for a Financial Analyst to play a key role in the finance and broader management team of our ancient and innovative Christian charity, which has a chapel and a pattern of prayer at its heart.

This is a new role established to support our Finance Director and provide analysis of results and performance to support the Commercial Director, managers and trustees in their decision-making processes.

The ideal candidate will be proactive and a great communicator. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and be particularly good at communicating often technical information to non-specialists. They will work well with others including colleagues, clients and suppliers.

Experienced and dedicated, they will support the management of this venerable and much-loved institution and be flexible to assist the small finance team, especially in busy periods.

As the Royal Foundation of St Katharine is a Christian retreat centre that is open to all regardless of faith, and as the post holder would be a member of the management team, it would be essential for this person to support the Christian ethos of the charity. It would be desirable if they felt able to support the rhythm of prayer in our chapel, though this is not a requirement.

Essential skills and experience

• Experience in the hospitality sector with a strong preference to hotels.
• University degree or equivalent.
• Either hold or be studying for a recognised accounting and finance qualification. Study support will be available for the right candidate.

Assistant Accountant

We have an opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join the team managing the day-to-day accounting and financial stewardship of the Church, under the supervision of the Finance Manager.

This role offers hybrid and flexible working.

Position: Assistant Accountant

Location: Crawley/West Sussex/hybrid (hybrid working available after on boarding period)

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (flexible working available)

Salary: £32,000 per annum

Contract: Permanent

The Role

As Assistant Accountant, you will take a lead role in every aspect of the day-today accounting and financial stewardship of the Church, working in collaboration with the staff team. You will assist with the financial setup of new church plants, ensuring a consistent approach across all of the Church partnership of churches, identifying best-practice and ensuring robust checks and balances are in place as the finance function increases in operational complexity.

Consistency, attention to detail, and best practice are key as this role will also help to establish a centralised resource service, offering a limited range of financial services to other selected churches in the town. This is a hands-on role; the successful applicant will enjoy understanding and implementing the detail of charity and church accounting requirements.

About You

You will be AAT qualified (or equivalent) or have significant appropriate experience and with a demonstrative development of skills.

You will have also have had experience of:

• Financial reporting to deadlines
• Financial transaction processes up to Trial Balance
• Payroll management
• Variance reporting
