Responsibilities of our Cat Scientist - Emerging Welfare Technology 

• Support the development, validation, and practical application of feline welfare data collection tools. 

• Coordinate on-site technical logistics and data collection at UK adoption centres, including hardware deployment and software troubleshooting, while designing resilient, internet-enabled monitoring systems. 

• Use specialised programming skills to develop and maintain interactive software applications, creating user-friendly mechanisms for stakeholders to interrogate research outputs and inform management decisions. 

• Act as technical project lead for the transition of a Markerless Pose Estimation (MPE) system from external academic development into internal pipelines for automated cat behaviour and activity monitoring. 

• Lead and support on evidence synthesis projects and associated publications, in order to create robust knowledge bases for shelter, unowned and owned cat welfare and risk factors. 

About the Research team: 

• The Feline Welfare Research Team are a small but growing team of six scientists, who sit within the wider Cat Welfare department. The team supports the organisation in improving our understanding of feline welfare both on a population and individual basis across a range of disciplines including epidemiology, demography and welfare assessment. 

• The team are responsible for providing the charity with scientific expertise. 

What we’re looking for in our Cat Scientist - Emerging Welfare Technology: 

• Extensive experience undertaking non-invasive animal behaviour and welfare studies, including first-author publications. 

• Significant experience in research project design and leadership, including planning, oversight, and completion of projects on time and within budget. 

• Experience leading and advising on data-led research and innovation projects to inform animal management or conservation strategies 

• Strong programming and statistical data analysis skills including experience of transitioning academic research or coding systems into practical, operational tools to support positive animal health and welfare outcomes

• Solid grasp of research principles and the ability to find, absorb, and apply new analytical techniques

We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager to drive this high-profile programme and deliver meaningful change for cancer services. 

This is a rare opportunity to shape how cancer teams work across the country and to deliver meaningful improvements for patients, clinicians and the wider cancer workforce. 

As Project Manager, you will take full ownership of the planning, coordination and delivery of the Cancer MDT Reform Programme. You’ll work closely with senior leaders across the health system including NHS England, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Department of Health and Social Care as well as senior Officers at the RCR, including regular reporting to our Vice-President for Clinical Oncology. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Leading the full project lifecycle, from developing detailed project plans to managing risks, timelines and reporting. 
• Delivering a large two-day national stakeholder event to gather insight and build consensus across the cancer community.

IPS – Employment support

For people who need mental health support, getting back into work is a vital step on their recovery journey. The evidence backs this up, but although 90% of people with severe mental illness want to work, only 8% of them are in paid employment.

If you would like to join our team and champion our mission and help people who need employment support to get back into work. You will be supporting clients who are under the care of Secondary Mental Health services to gain and retain paid employment and will be based within a clinical team.

Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) was founded in 2004 and is a charity that fights malaria in a highly effective, accountable and transparent way.

We do this by purchasing and distributing multiple millions of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) at a time in nationwide universal coverage campaigns. This is the most cost-effective way of preventing malaria. AMF receives donations from the public and in the last financial year received US$147 million and, in our history, now over US$820 million. AMF is particularly data-focused and monitors and reports on net use and drives and supports innovation to improve the effectiveness of malaria programmes.

AMF is the world’s third largest funder of nets.

AMF has been rated a top charity for all of the last 16 years by independent charity evaluators GiveWell, Giving What We Can and The Life You Can Save who focus on impact and cost-effectiveness.

We are a team of 15 highly motivated individuals with different skills and experience. Each person has an important role to play. All team members work remotely with constant communication between them. While the team is small, the impact is big - our net distributions protect millions of people. Our largest programme is in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where we are funding 52 million nets to protect 94 million people for distribution during 2025 to 2027. We have ongoing multi-million net programmes in other countries including Chad, Guinea, Nigeria, South Sudan, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.

Role Description

Our activities and commitments are steadily increasing, and 2026-2029 is expected to be a very busy period of distributions, with over ~70m nets planned for distribution in 2026 alone. In light of this, AMF is recruiting a Senior Operations Manager to join the operations team and play an important role in ensuring the success of the net distributions. We are looking for someone who has strong interpersonal and intellectual skills who is able to work collaboratively. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking on significant responsibility by leading on several of AMF’s programmes.

The role will include involvement in all stages of a distribution campaign (pre-agreement, net procurement, post-agreement, during distribution, and post distribution) across two main areas: 

1. Work with National Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs) and distribution partners

2. Work with AMF’s independent monitoring partners

Further information

The Senior Operations Manager will lead on several of AMF’s programmes. They will work closely with NMCPs and distribution partners, in country partners, AMF independent monitors, cofunding partners, the AMF Operations and Technology teams to ensure the success of AMF distributions. 

More specifically, they will manage the distributions through the following stages

1. Pre agreement

• Establishing the funding gap

• Establishing the net need, malaria burden, insecticide resistance data

• Working with the Ministry of Health to negotiate and put in place an agreement for the programme

2. Net procurement

• Working with AMF’s procurement lead to order nets in time for the distribution

3. Post-agreement

• After signature of the agreement, working with countries and distribution partners to put in place the plans for key elements, in particular

• Tender for and select an independent partner for distribution monitoring, and work closely with this partner that will be AMF’s eyes and ears in country

4. During the distribution

• Track information coming from all partners

5. Post distribution

• Tender for and select an independent partner for post distribution monitoring, and work closely with this partner to carry out surveys at 0, 9, 18 and 27 months post-distribution

Through these stages, it will be important to maintain strong relationships with the key partners, notably the National Malaria Control Programmes, distribution partners and cofunding partners to ensure that distributions are carried out according to the agreements signed between the Ministry of Health and AMF.

Background and Contract

· Leading and standardizing data analysis efforts across programmes, driving improvements in services, systems, and processes through collaborative work with the team.

· Spearheading the development of templates and process frameworks that empower delivery partners to achieve operational excellence.

· Overseeing and fulfilling comprehensive reporting requirements, including the preparation of impact assessments and reports for commissioners and the board.

· Ensuring MEL systems meet programme‑level compliance requirements, including data quality assurance, verification readiness, and alignment with commissioner standards.

· Strategically supporting financial processes by overseeing invoicing and budgeting to enhance financial efficiency and sustainability of projects.

Key responsibilities

Delivery Impact

· Co‑develop MEL frameworks with delivery partners, ensuring indicators, tools, and data flows are realistic for community‑level implementation and aligned with programme outcomes

· Facilitate collaboration among data analyst teams from delivery partners to proactively address challenges and co-create solutions aimed at enhancing service delivery

· Follow up with delivery partners on activity completion, milestone progress, and evidence submission, ensuring timely and accurate reporting into programme systems.

 Process Improvement

· Lead strategic initiatives to enhance team efficiency and effectiveness.

· Refine and adapt existing working files and tools to optimize usability and performance, while evaluating current practices and identifying opportunities for substantial improvements.

· Identify opportunities for process automation and improving utilisation of management data

· Strengthen MEL processes within delivery partners, including data collection protocols, field supervision routines, and feedback loops for continuous improvement.

 Data Analysis

· Deliver high-quality statistical analysis and comprehensive impact reports to engage diverse stakeholders and provide meaningful insights that include short, medium, and long-term projections for enhanced programme impact.

· Ensure the relevance and effectiveness of data dashboards by integrating early warning systems to highlight priority areas for action.

· Translate data into practical performance insights for delivery partners, highlighting operational bottlenecks and recommending corrective action

· Provide mentorship and strategic oversight to M&E teams within delivery partners, ensuring the effective completion of roles and responsibilities.

· Maintain meticulous attention to detail and ensure high standards of grammar and accuracy in all documentation.

Data Integrity

· Collate and update volumetric and programme data and systems, continually developing and refining data collection processes.

· Strengthen data reliability by enhancing data flow from beneficiaries through to final reporting.

· Conduct periodic data quality checks with in‑country CSO teams, ensuring accuracy of field‑level data and alignment with verification requirements

· Ensure compliance with data protection legislations when retaining and sharing information.

· Identify opportunities for process automation and ease of access to information.

Impact Presentation

· Deliver consistent, aggregated representations of project performance against targets, ensuring clear and compelling presentations.

· Partner closely with the Programme Director and Manager to create and deliver engaging and accurate programme outcome presentations.

· Tailor communication to suit varied audiences, including formal presentations for high-level stakeholders.

Relationship Management

· Collaborate with Analyst colleagues to streamline data processes, minimizing manual interventions where possible.

· Build strong working relationships with in‑country CSO teams, providing supportive, capacity‑building engagement that strengthens MEL practice and operational delivery

· Work collaboratively with finance and investment teams to monitor programme invoicing and maintain awareness of the intersection between outcome achievement and the financial status of the project.

· Actively contribute to stakeholder meetings and forums, demonstrating focus and attentiveness to discussions

· Support the Operations Lead and Senior Impact Analyst in ensuring delivery partners meet commissioner compliance requirements, including documentation, evidence standards, and reporting timelines.

Experience, Skills & Abilities

· 1 to 2 years relevant post-graduate professional experience in education, international development, consulting, or similar sectors.

 · Experience working directly with in‑country civil society organisations (not only HQ‑based teams), ideally in education, early childhood development, or community‑based programming

 · Experience supporting performance management processes—tracking milestones, monitoring delivery progress, and coordinating with partners to resolve delivery challenges.

· Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, follow up on partner deliverables, and maintain compliance with funder requirements.

 · Previous Power BI experience would be advantageous.

 · Ability and desire to travel to Sierra Leone and similar contexts.
