Job description

Company Description

Henshaws is a northern charity supporting people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to go beyond expectations. We believe that, wherever they are, everyone has the right to an independent and fulfilling life. Our support, advice and training enables people and their families build skills, develop confidence, help each other and look forward to a more positive future.

Position: Strategic Partnerships Manager Greater Manchester

This role is about building relationships that lead to sustainable funding and long term impact. As Strategic Partnerships Manager, you will identify and develop opportunities with public sector commissioners, corporate partners and organisations across the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

You will work closely with colleagues across Henshaws to shape services, develop proposals and secure income that supports people with sight loss across Greater Manchester. This role is well suited to someone with experience in business development or income generation who enjoys working with others, spotting opportunities and turning ideas into funded services.

By growing partnerships and income, this role directly supports Henshaws’ mission to help people with sight loss live more independent and fulfilling lives.

Salary: £23.06 per hour or £41,969.20 per annum
Hours per week: 35. We welcome interest from applicants who may prefer to work part time
Weeks per year: 52
Annual leave: 5 weeks plus 10 days bank holiday
Contract: Permanent
Location: Greater Manchester office with travel required
Closing date: 14 June 2026 at 12 noon

Our Values

  • Ambition

You will actively look for new ways to grow income and influence, helping Henshaws reach more people and strengthen services across Greater Manchester.

  • Respect

You will build positive and professional relationships with commissioners, partners, colleagues and supporters, valuing different perspectives and working with integrity.

  • Empowerment

You will work alongside operational teams and partners to shape services that give people with sight loss greater confidence, choice and control in their lives.

Requirements

You will have experience in business development, sales or income generation within a target driven environment, along with experience preparing bids, tenders or commercial proposals.

You should be confident managing a pipeline of opportunities, tracking progress and working towards clear activity based targets. Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop service proposals.

You will be organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities. Experience working with public sector bodies such as the NHS or local authorities is desirable, as is experience within a charity, VCSE, health or education setting.

An understanding of public sector commissioning, social value or the disability and sight loss sector would be welcomed, but support will be provided to develop this knowledge.

This role requires flexibility to travel across sites and attend meetings across Greater Manchester. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check including the child barring list.

Henshaws is committed to safeguarding, equality and inclusion. We actively welcome applications from people with lived experience of disability and will make reasonable adjustments to support applicants throughout the recruitment process.
