Job description

Are you a proactive, collaborative and compassionate individual with experience of working within a retail or customer-facing role?  Have you worked as part of a multi-agency team, working together to achieve positive outcomes for people and establishing links to further the aims of a project?

If so, St Giles is looking for a Pantry Coordinator to work on our pioneering Pantry project, where you will provide supervision to volunteers and support to individuals and families who are based in and around the borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need.  Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.

About this vital role

Our Pantry project will support and engage with individuals and families providing them with positive empowering support to address issues such as wellbeing, housing, debt, and employment.  People using the Pantry pay a weekly subscription and, in return, are able to access an abundance of affordable, nutritious food and added support. 

The Pantry Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day running of the Pantry, including carrying out and complying with all health and safety procedures and policies, ensuring stock is stored and managed in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations and providing nutritional and meal planning support and where needed healthy eating plans.

As well as supporting, managing and working alongside a team of volunteers, you will also positively support clients with a range of practical issues, including benefits and debt advice and wellbeing, provide emotional support around areas such confidence building and developing resilience, plus develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies.  Managing the completion of all new client inductions, including Initial Needs Assessments, Risk Assessments and Action Plans, and promoting the service within the local community, arranging promotional events as needed, are also key duties.

What we are looking for

  • Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene and Advice and Guidance Level 3 qualification
  • Knowledge of food storage and hygiene best practices, including stock rotation principles
  • An understanding of variety of cooking techniques and the ability to advise others on how to cook on a budget
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Work constructively with colleagues to achieve project targets and respond to requests
  • Strong IT, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A flexible, professional and collaborative approach to your work.
