Working as part of the Casework Team, the Triage caseworker will be the first point of contact for
beneficiaries seeking support: following the triage process to establish the initial needs; moving
forward the requests; and following up once the casework process has been completed.

This role will involve assessing the needs of the children and family to provide recommendations for
appropriate assistance, including financial assistance for welfare needs, advice, and support to
families in the management of finances, and assessment of child specific needs

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Caseworkers provide support and advice to eligible individuals in line with the policies of the
Naval Children’s Charity. They work closely with other organisations to ensure that children and
families receive appropriate and prompt support.

The role of caseworker is to assess the needs of the children and family and provide
recommendations for appropriate assistance to the Senior Caseworkers and Senior Leadership
Team. This includes financial assistance for welfare needs, advice and support to families in the
management of personal affairs and finances, and assessment of child specific needs.

Caseworkers should be empathetic and non-judgmental.

Caseworkers will receive induction training both in house and externally to include use of the
bespoke CMS (Casework Management System) used by the Armed Forces Charity Sector. The
role is subject to DBS checking. It may require some home visits and travel around the UK.
Triage:

• To act as the first point of contact to the Casework team for beneficiaries, providing a calm, supportive and professional welcome
• To complete an initial assessment of need by triaging telephone calls, emails and applications received through Mosaic, Lightning Reach and other referral routes.
• Contact families who submit an enquiry through the Charity website or via email
• To use active listening and empathetic communication to build trust and ensure beneficiaries feel heard
• Accurately record beneficiary information in the CRM system, ensuring timely, detailed, and confidential case notes
• Identify urgent or emergency requests for support and escalate to a Senior Caseworker for prioritising
• Provide clear information about available support, signposting, or referrals
• Follow up with beneficiaries once casework has been completed to ascertain impact and any unmet need
• Process day to day invoices and pass to the Senior Leadership Team for payment
• Maintain up-to-date understanding and awareness of the Royal Navy
• Uphold organisational values at all times, conducting work with integrity, professionalism, and compassion.
• Deal with enquiries and correspondence from beneficiaries
• Investigate applications for grants and, following assessment, produce recommendations for the Senior Caseworkers, Senior Leadership Team and Grants Committee
• Liaise with external caseworkers from SSAFA, RN FPS and other organisations to ensure comprehensive casework is carried out on all beneficiaries
• Establish a relationship of trust with beneficiaries.
• Offer advice and guidance including relationship, bereavement, family counselling and sign posting where appropriate both by telephone and in person when appropriate to statutory/external organisations and Armed Forces charities
• Investigate beneficiary entitlement to statutory funds, advise of other possible sources of charitable funding and, with the beneficiaries’ consent, refer to other charities to almonise with them to provide a package of care for the beneficiary
• Seek opportunities to encourage other organisations to work proactively with beneficiaries
• Ensure confidential handling of all information concerning beneficiaries in accordance with the Naval Children’s Charity’s confidentiality and data protection policies
• Keep thorough, confidential and systematic records of all matters concerning enquiries, applications, and grant awards in accordance with the Naval Children’s Charity’s data protection policies
• Keep abreast of developments in your allocated lead area on legislation, childcare issues and the benefits system and have an awareness of the MoD allowance system
• Regularly update personal training and skills
• Such other relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time

Person specification

Essential

• Understanding of military life and the impact on serving personnel, veterans and their families
• Be able to demonstrate empathy, emotional intelligence, and non judgmental communication
• Evidenced knowledge and experience of charitable and financial support to beneficiary groups
• Strong communication, organisational and record keeping skills

Desirable 

• Confident using IT including Microsoft Office; knowledge of grants or other CRM
• Experience of recording information into a CRM (training will be provided)
• Familiarity with the Royal Navy and the Service charity sector

The Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Rough Sleeping Service Team are looking for a committed individual to join our street outreach team tasked with reducing rough sleeping across Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole.

This role is both challenging and rewarding. It would suit an experienced worker who wants the autonomy and flexibility to find creative solutions, or someone looking for a development opportunity who is keen to learn outreach skills and work with clients at a point where their need is acute.

You will be expected to work with clients in a variety of settings. As part of the Rough Sleeping Team, you will be required to work some shifts starting at 6am and others finishing at 2am.

In this role you will:

• Conduct outreach alongside a range of partners and proactively assess those found sleeping rough to rapidly access housing, health services and treatment
• Manage a caseload of clients experiencing multiple disadvantages where there are significant barriers to accessing accommodation and services, requiring relationship building and a thoughtful approach to incremental change
• Work with a truly diverse group of clients, supporting them to make meaningful and lasting changes to their lives
• Receive an additional 20% pay premium for hours worked between 8pm and 8am Monday to Friday and for all hours worked on Saturday and Sunday

About you

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who can engage clients in a range of settings. You will be adaptable when facing communication challenges such as language barriers, cultural differences or working with people who are neuro-diverse. This includes the ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and accessible way.

You will have some experience of client case management, resilience to achieve agreed outcomes and the ability to work remotely and lone work with vulnerable people.

About the Role

Community Connectors work as part of an integrated, blended mental health offer to support people with emotional, social and practical needs to access a range of local, non-medical and non-clinical services, to improve confidence, social inclusion and independence.

This role will involve working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with statutory, third sector and NHS colleagues to support clients who are suffering from moderate to severe mental health difficulties. You will need to have experience working with those suffering with mental health illness as well as being able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of the services, support networks and local resources that may assist in improved outcomes for those dealing with complex and enduring mental health issues. The ability to be adaptable, work independently and the resilience to work in some challenging environments are key attributes for this role.

Service Delivery

• Assess suitability for community connection support as part of a blended team approach and support individuals to access the service by utilising in depth knowledge of local voluntary and community services and networks in your respective area
• To work with individuals to coproduce a plan to address their mental health and wellbeing goals. Am enable people to achieve these goals through facilitating access and connecting with appropriate resources

As a Project Worker at our Stacey Street service in Islington, you’ll support adults who have experienced homelessness or rough sleeping to rebuild stability and move towards independent living. This is a hands-on role in a busy hostel environment where no two days are the same.

You’ll work directly with residents who may be navigating challenges linked to mental health, substance use, trauma or contact with the criminal justice system. Through strengths-based support planning and clear risk management, you’ll help individuals identify goals, overcome barriers and take practical steps forward. From supporting someone to engage with treatment, to sustaining a tenancy or accessing training and employment, your work will focus on realistic, sustainable progress.

Day to day, you’ll build trusted relationships whilst maintaining professional boundaries. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external partners to coordinate the right support at the right time, ensuring residents are prepared for successful move-on. You’ll keep accurate records, respond calmly in challenging situations and contribute to a psychologically informed environment where people feel respected and motivated to change.

This role is about creating momentum. About us

The Carer Services team is responsible for developing and delivering a portfolio of products and services targeted at carers, employers and service providers. This includes providing resources for Carers UK’s Employers for Carers business forum and managing our employer benchmarking scheme, Carer Confident. About you

The person in this role will collaborate across teams and provide research and project support to our team; support development and delivery of content on our digital platforms and manage the application and accreditation process for Carer Confident.

You’ll have excellent customer service and relationship management skills as well as good organisational skills. Good knowledge of CRM systems and IT packages and systems is a must have and you’ll also have strong writing and research skills. 

During this 12 month contract you’ll learn more about Carers UK and develop your understanding of unpaid carers and the challenges they face. You can also expect to develop your research, project management and customer service skills.

This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to attend our office at least one day a week.

We’re looking for a passionate, driven individual to become a part of Shelter’s fundraising team and play a vital role in our mission to combat homelessness. Join us as a Regional Community Fundraiser covering the South London region, where you will work to engage local communities and raise crucial funds to support our fight for home.

About the role

Our London region is one of our busiest, with large numbers of warm supporters hosting fundraising activities across the year. As a Regional Community Fundraiser, you will engage with a diverse range of audiences, including individuals, local businesses, schools, volunteers, and community groups, to build meaningful relationships and raise vital funds to support Shelter’s mission. A key relationship in this role will be the one you build with the Regional Community Fundraiser – North London, working closely together to deliver a robust stewardship plan for opportunities that lie across both regions.

Your responsibilities will include managing fundraising events, overseeing budgets, and identifying new opportunities to grow our supporter base. You’ll be at the heart of our efforts to inspire long-term engagement with Shelter’s work and make a lasting impact. You will also work in collaboration with colleagues from across Shelter, including local teams, shops, and services, to ensure that community fundraising goals are aligned with Shelter’s broader objectives.

We are looking for someone with experience of community fundraising and engagement who possesses the skills to build good, meaningful relationships and have strong communication skills to be able to motivate and inspire existing and new supporters. You will need to be able to take a proactive approach to managing budgets and events in your role and above all, you will also have a passion for social justice and share Shelter’s belief that everyone has the right to a safe home.

About the team

This exciting opportunity sits within Shelter’s Community and Events team which is a part of the Income Generation directorate. Community and Events is made up of our Community Fundraising, Supporter Experience, Digital Fundraising & Marketing and Mass Participation teams, across the team we look after a wide range of fundraising activities encouraging supporters to raise money and providing them with the support to do so.

In this role, you will report into the Senior Community Fundraising Area Manager who will provide guidance, coaching, and support to help you thrive in your role. You’ll be working closely alongside community fundraising colleagues based in London, Birmingham, Bristol and Norwich.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Implementation (Online & Offline)

• Key operational lead, deputising for the Head of Individual Giving and Legacies, taking responsibility for the planning and delivery of campaigns and activity across channels and supporter journeys.

• Develop and implement activity to attract new supporters through an integrated mix of channels, including social platforms (paid and unpaid), search engine advertising, email marketing, and offline appeals.

• Manage relationships with external partners, including creative, fundraising, and digital marketing agencies, ensuring high-quality delivery and ROI.

• Develop and execute integrated campaigns where ultimate conversion may occur via traditional channels such as telephone or mail, taking a holistic approach to acquire and convert new supporters.

• Analyse metrics and data, reporting on KPIs, budget, and spend. Work to constantly test and optimise campaigns to exceed targets and improve return on investment.

• Support forecasting and budget planning on marketing activities within the IG budget.

• Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies, ensuring our fundraising efforts remain innovative and effective.

Stewardship, Content & Operations

• Develop and deliver personalised relationship-building communications and initiatives that recognise supporter loyalty and deepen their connection to the impact of their support.

• Oversee the operational delivery of supporter communications, including the development of processes for bespoke and workflow-delivered thanking and nurturing.

• Create and optimise content, sometimes cross team and directly with our incredible patients and supporters.

• Build journeys that maximise conversions and build loyalty. This includes high-quality creative fundraising writing, concepting, and messaging development.

• Ensure all supporters are thanked and updated in an appropriate and timely manner, working with the team to ensure coverage and that all interactions are in line with our supporter promise.

• Cultivate deeper engagement with supporters beyond transactional interactions, explore opportunities for meaningful dialogue and a sense of community. 

Collaboration & Cross-Selling

• Work with the wider PCR team to maximise opportunities for fundraising and patient impact, specifically leading on cross-selling meaningful cash and support propositions to other audiences (e.g., events participants, community fundraisers, and campaigners).

• Work with Agile principles in mind, collaborating with colleagues across the organisation to plan and deliver high-quality work.

• Build key relationships across teams within and outside Public Fundraising to achieve successful fundraising outcomes.

• As required, represent PCR externally, promoting our work and building long-term relationships with stakeholders. 

Database and Compliance

• Develop your existing experience and affinity for supporter data to improve outcomes for supporters.

• Hold a very good working knowledge of key aspects of data protection law including GDPR and PECR, as well as the Fundraising Code of Practice.

• Work with our tools and seek to improve knowledge and use of these, including Access CRM, Fundraise Up, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Wordpress and MailChimp.

Skills and Competencies

Our ideal candidate would have the following:

• Fundraising Expertise: Proven experience in an Individual Giving role(s) with a track record of managing both digital acquisition and offline appeals (direct mail/telemarketing) for a charity or social cause, as well as significant experience in retention, marketing communications, supporter services.

• Agency Management: Experience managing creative, fundraising and digital marketing agencies, to deliver a variety of campaigns or activities across multiple channels.

• Digital Proficiency: Demonstrable expertise setting up and managing campaigns in Meta Business Suite, Google paid advertising, and email marketing platforms like Mailchimp.

• Strategic Thinking: Evidence of leading successful integrated campaigns resulting in significant income or lead generation.

• Audience development: Led development of successful new propositions for cross-selling across existing audiences.

• Creative Skills: The ability to motivate and inspire audiences through content and creative writing and storytelling for various channels.

• Financial Acumen: The ability to monitor and manage income and expenditure against targets as well as forecast and report on campaigns across all channels.

• Supporter Experience: A strong desire to provide excellent supporter experience and customer journeys to everyone who encounters PCR.

• Collaborative Mindset: A collaborative and innovative mindset with a desire to test, learn, and work with stakeholders cross-functionally.

• Agile Working: Experience working within Agile project management frameworks would be beneficial.

• Technical Knowledge: Good knowledge of WordPress website optimisation and plugins, or a strong desire to learn.

• Passion: A strong belief in the work we do at PCR, and a demonstrable desire to improve outcomes for patients through our work in fundraising.
