The Clinical Studies Portfolio Manager role brings expert knowledge of clinical trial principles and practices to the directorate. As part of the Virtual Biotech team, they will lead and manage our clinical stage projects, evaluate new project proposals and liaise with external partners and the Parkinson’s community, whilst maintaining professional knowledge and networks. 

The Clinical Studies Portfolio Manager will be a leading player in our £25m programme to create the Parkinson’s treatments of the future, working alongside and on behalf of the patient community. They will use their expertise to help select, fund and oversee half a dozen exciting Phase 2 projects that will drive important new treatments forward, into the hands of patients in the UK and around the world. 

What you’ll do:

• Provide expert knowledge of all stages of clinical development to advance the strategic research goals of Parkinson’s UK
• Provide expert project management/oversight for the ongoing clinical studies and clinical research collaborations to ensure studies are delivered on time and on budget
• Manage and contribute to the internal and external critical review of funding applications for new clinical projects
• Develop excellent relationships within the clinical Parkinson’s research community

The BHF is focusing on digital transformation to enhance personalised customer experiences, increase fundraising income, and provide support to people with heart and circulatory conditions in the UK. 

The Digital team collaborates with the wider Marketing, Fundraising, and Engagement team to develop and optimise digital experiences. 

Working arrangements

Please note this is a six-month fixed term contract. Start date as soon as possible. This contract will run for six months from start date.

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

At the BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average.  The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. About you

As our ideal candidate, you bring experience conducting thorough user research and discovery, producing wireframes, interactive prototypes, and UI designs, ideally within Figma. 

With proven experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer, or similar role, you have a strong portfolio of design projects, a track record of staying ahead of UX trends, and a solid understanding of what makes an experience accessible to all users.

Able to visualise, explain, and create buy-in for your work with stakeholders at all levels, you have a solid background in translating diverse business objectives into UX insights as well as designs that meet customer needs and drive tangible impact on organisational objectives.

You have outstanding time management and organisation skills, demonstrated by your track record of  managing multiple projects with different stakeholders across a wide-ranging business portfolio.

Role Overview:

The Talent Set is thrilled to be working with a leading health charity as they search for a Head of Content and News to support them for a fantastic 6-month fixed term contract.

The successful candidate will be tasked with spearheading a team in crafting impactful media that ignites awareness and empowers the organisation’s community. You will oversee the creation of top-tier health content, ensuring everyone impacted has the knowledge and support to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own external communications, crafting strategic narratives that shape public perception.
• Cultivate relationships with media, influencers, and stakeholders to challenge misconceptions, elevate awareness, and champion the needs of those living with and at risk of the condition.
• Head a dynamic press team, safeguarding the organisation’s reputation and aligning media efforts with their goals.
• Guide content creation via integrated campaigns, collaborating closely with marketing and communications.
• Oversee a multidisciplinary content team, setting the strategic direction for high-quality, evidence-based content across print and digital platforms.
• Champion accessibility, trust, and relevance for diverse audiences (patients, families, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders).
• Build strong partnerships across the organisation, offering invaluable expertise to colleagues.
• Lead and develop a team of media, content, and web specialists, fostering excellence within your domain.
• Translate complex information into clear and motivating written and verbal communications.
• Contribute actively as part of the senior leadership team, providing strategic guidance and shaping the future of the organisation.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Team and Board of Trustees on critical issues like crisis and reputation management.

Person Specification:

• Existing strong relationships with key journalists, health care sector is preferable.
• Someone who works confidently with internal and external stakeholders to secure buy-in and drive action.
• Ability to build strong relationships across the organisation, ensuring colleagues receive the support they need for success.
• Previous experience overseeing budgets, monitoring expenditure, and reporting on financial performance.
• Experience in communicating confidently with senior stakeholders.
• Understanding of the media landscape and someone who excels at working with media outlets.
• Possess a strong understanding of the health and political environment (advantageous).
• Someone who stays current on the latest advancements in communications and digital content.
• Experience responding quickly and driving projects to completion efficiently.
• Ability to maintain a calm and resilient demeanor in demanding situations.
• Able to manage a heavy workload effectively within a critical area.
• A team player who enjoys collaboration and fosters a positive, results-oriented environment through teamwork.

About you
We are seeking a Communications and Engagement Officer on a 6-month Fixed Term Contract to work across storytelling and engagement theme to deliver of all of Council’s strategic objectives ensuring that our communications reflect the Society’s values.

The Communications and Engagement Officer will contribute to and support the Communications and Engagement Manager in updating and editing all communications channels to support our aim to advance understanding of microbiology and champion the contribution made by microbiology, our members and their work in addressing global challenges.
