Job title: Deputy Head of Service

The successful candidate must have relevant service specific or transferable advocacy, advice service and/or legal knowledge with at least:
- 5 years’ experience of service planning, project management, contract management, risk assessment and quality assurance.

Job Purpose
As a member of Cambridge House’s Safer Renting Team, led by the Head of Service, this role:
i) Deputises for the Head of Service in all matters as necessary.
ii) Manages the casework operations including line management of team leaders.
iii) Supervises the team’s Project Manager.
iv) Supports the Head of Service and staff in the management of administrative functions and case management records.
v) Works with the Head of Service on contract management of partner boroughs and funders,
vi) Is responsible for monitoring quality assurance, data quality and compliances, and work to maintain our accreditation standard and continuous improvement objective.
vii) Oversees the service user feedback and evaluation system and reports on lessons are learned.
viii) Works with the Head of Service on developing and maintaining the team’s business planning, budgeting and financial monitoring.
Key Duties
1. Support the Head of Service to provide performance management, technical direction, oversight and quality control for team activities, and ensuring coordination and collaboration across all delivery areas and with other Cambridge House services.
2. Provide functional and performance management guidance to staff to ensure deliverables are met within timelines and budgets as needed.
3. Develop the library of reports stored in casework monitoring software (AdvicePro) so that our performance measuring, reporting and research capability is robust and reliable, easy to use and there is quality assurance on data input.
4. Operate a performance reporting and monitoring regime that provides assurance and gap analysis on our targets, including:
a) Budgeted casework volumes by period.
b) Advocate productivity by hours, cases completed and outcomes.

5. To support the contract management of all partner boroughs:
a) Maintaining a library of contracts and agreements.
b) Overseeing the programme of tendering in compliance with Cambridge House’s Ethical Fundraising Policy.
c) Being responsible for:
Invoicing and credit control in compliance with Cambridge House’s corporate financial procedures.
The submission of performance information on an agreed suite of key performance indicators.
Managing the cycle of review meetings as required.
6. To project manage AQS accreditation processes including commissioning periodic ‘mock assessments’.
General Responsibilities
1. To keep abreast of the overall work of Cambridge House.
2. To be self-servicing and competent in the use of IT software.
3. To participate in regular supervisions and an annual appraisal, and to be committed to one’s own professional development.
4. To participate in internal/external meetings as required, to attend conferences and other functions, and to contribute to general management decision making as necessary.
5. To comply with all of Cambridge House’s corporate policies and procedures.
6. To carry out any other duties commensurate with the role.

The primary function of this role is to support the CEO and Head of Member Engagement with all administrative activities that relate to our existing membership and training, including updating our CRM system (ThankQ), dealing with membership correspondence and growth, hosting webinars via Zoom, and helping to plan and deliver our annual conference (May 10th in 2023) in London. The postholder will report to the Head of Member Engagement. The successful candidate will have extensive experience of CRM systems and customer service, and experience of charities and membership processes will be a distinct advantage. The postholder will also support the CEO in managing relationships with key external stakeholders and dealing with governance.
Main Duties
• Membership and data:
- Initial contact for all membership, training and stakeholder enquiries
- Processing memberships on ThankQ, to include:
- Importing new contacts and updating contact information as required
- Importing new memberships
- Providing our finance function with the information required to invoice new and renewing members
- Ensuring that ILM Members’ information is accurate and up to date
- Working with the Head of Member Engagement to shape and send appropriate induction materials to new members
- To lead on member data accuracy, efficiency and drive forward any improvements
• Training and events:
- Helping to create new training events on ThankQ and our website
- Overseeing bookings within ThankQ, creating accurate delegate lists and ensuring that Finance have the information required for invoicing
- Assisting with organising events on Zoom, including sending panellist and delegate links
- Starting and hosting webinars, sharing this responsibility with the Head of Member Engagement (this postholder will not actually be delivering any training)
- Helping to process videos and uploading these to the website, after webinars and training have completed.
- Sending certificates, recordings and slides to all delegates after training courses are completed.
- Assisting with the administration of our main qualifications, the Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration and the Diploma in Charity Legacy Management, and all other training programme administration
- Creating name badges and a final delegate list for the ILM Annual Conference in May 2024 (and each year)

Responsibilities:
Strategy, Policy, and Planning
• As an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, collaboratively drive the formulation and execution of strategic plans aligned with RLT’s vision, values and educational objectives, taking accountability for outcomes within the COO portfolio
• Create robust operational plans and policies that enhance efficiency and effectiveness across the Trust and its schools
• Establish practices and a shared-services approach within the COO portfolio, emphasising quality, adaptability, agility and continuous improvement
• Ensure adherence to budget and timelines while anticipating and addressing organisational needs to maximise benefits for the Trust
• Cultivate strong relationships with external stakeholders, including Regional Directors (RDs) and Department for Education (DFE), Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), other MATs, Local Authorities, Members, Trustees, Headteachers, Senior School Leaders, Local Governing Body Chairs and members, to bolster the success of the Trust
• Act as the key point of contact for liaison with Local Authorities and the ESFA in relation to legal, estate management and property related matters.

We are seeking additional experienced Associate Independent Investigating Officers (IO) for Complaints, to increase our capacity to respond to referrals from Local Authorities to provide an independent element to the formal Stage 2 investigations under the Children Act 1989.
The IO will lead investigations, and will give the complainant (who may be a child, young person or adult) the opportunity to express their view, ensure the child or young person’s rights and best interests are at the centre of the investigation and that the investigation/review process is open and transparent. They write a report on the investigation/review, which is submitted to the referring agency.
The Job Description document sets out the expectations for an Associate Independent Person for Complaints (IPC) who is approved by Coram Voice. IPCs are independent, freelance and responsible for their own work. Nevertheless, IPCs are accountable to the organisation for their professional standards and are expected to comply with Coram Voice Code of Ethics and Practice Guidelines.

Uplift is an organisation that uses research, campaigning, and advocacy to support a just transition away from fossil fuels in the UK on a timeline that is commensurate with a safe climate. We are currently looking for a Legal Campaigns Lead to help coordinate creative legal advocacy, litigation and public facing campaigns that are driven forward by Uplift and its partners. This is an exciting opportunity to support the movement to phase out fossil fuel extraction.
The Role
As Legal Campaigns Lead, you will coordinate Uplift’s legal campaigns to ensure that our legal advocacy has maximum political and corporate impact during a critical moment in the energy transition. This includes strategic litigation targeting fossil fuel companies and public policy, as well as advocacy focused on reforming key legal frameworks governing oil and gas extraction in the UK. Uplift envisages this litigation to be strongly supported by a communications and campaign strategy, including mobilising public support for the aims of the litigation, high-profile media coverage, and collaboration with campaign partners to increase public and media engagement with litigation. Uplift previously coordinated the Paid to Pollute litigation, which provides an example of the kind of legal campaigning that this role would support.
Reporting to Uplift’s Legal and Policy Adviser, you will work closely with Uplift’s legal and campaigns teams to determine the right partners, campaign tools and tactics for each of Uplift’s legal campaigns, and you will be responsible for ensuring that these campaigns are effectively coordinated and executed. You will work with a range of external partners, including campaigning organisations, grassroots activists, and vendors and consultants who can help us deliver on campaign objectives. You will not be required to provide any input to the litigation itself, which will be managed by Uplift’s in-house lawyers and external legal teams.
The successful candidate will have exceptional project management skills, including for complex projects, and an ability to align and motivate partners to deliver on ambitious timelines and outcomes. Legal experience is not necessary, although a keen interest in climate and/or human rights-related legal advocacy is desirable, and any previous experience with litigation-related campaigning is a significant advantage. A strong commitment to Uplift's mission and core values is also required.
Core responsibilities will include:
- Support the development of the overall strategy for Uplift’s legal campaigns, including objectives, tactics, partnerships and milestones.
- Oversee the coordination of legal campaigns, which will include:
- Helping to identify and build relationships with key partners

For over 30 years we have represented and supported those people marginalised through poverty, discrimination, or disadvantage when they have been affected by unlawful state decision-making. We have shown leadership in access to justice in the UK and have helped developed the law and how the law is used by civil society. (PLP’s) programme of events is prestigious, impactful, and highly acclaimed. Ranging from round tables for front line organisations, high profile thought-leading conferences for lawyers, researchers, academics, NGOs, campaigners, and policy experts, through to public legal education aimed at civil society and community activists. The post-holder will play a crucial role in the efficient functioning and development of PLP’s events program and will be line managed by the Events Manager, working closely with the Events and Communications team, and across the organization. You will be a great organiser with a proven track record in either events and training, or in a clearly transferable area. You will be committed to delivering events that advance understanding of how to use the law to hold Government to account and improve access to justice. You will demonstrate excellent, proactive partnership working and development, excellent customer service, and the ability to envision using events to advance PLP’s vision and mission. Although no previous experience in public law is required, a willingness to steer, learn, collaborate and deliver is essential. We are looking for someone with great events, practical ability, and a curious mind about what PLP does and wants to achieve, and how events can help deliver that. This role is fulltime (though we may consider 4 days a week in special circumstances or for the right candidate) and is based at our London Office. Some homeworking is welcomed. We are a charity organisation, put together under Trussell Trust to provide a service to our local Hackney community. We are looking for a trustee with a strong academic legal background. Previous experience as a trustee is desirable, but not essential. We are a small organisation growing rapidly and require a trustee with a clear understanding of social welfare, with the ability to think strategically and support other trustee members.
Hackney Foodbank is aiming to achieve no less than a hunger-free Hackney, where everyone can afford to eat. We support people in crisis or trapped in poverty with compassion and dignity. We do this by providing emergency food parcels, which offer practical, immediate relief in moments of need, and by connecting people with local organisations who can help them address the root causes and wider effects of poverty in their lives. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
Your Purpose...
As a Trustee, you will have a strategic role in evaluating how we conduct ourselves as a charity as we move towards the vision and plans of Hackney Foodbank.
You will be responsible for strategic matters with the team of trustees along with the chairperson and maintaining the high governance standards. As a trustee you will have a pivotal role in contributing to the effectiveness of the Board and individual directors, both inside and outside the board room.
You will be responsible for ensuring that there is effective communication with the Management Team and with other members of the board.
Your Responsibilities...
Becoming a Trustee for Hackney Foodbank can be an exciting and fulfilling role. The role is to ensure that Hackney food bank fulfils its duty to visitors and delivers on its vision, mission and values. The board of trustees are both jointly and individually responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.
The statutory duties of all trustees include:
- Ensuring the organisation complies with its governing document (pursuing the objects as defined in it), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensuring services are provided in line with Hackney Foodbank policies and procedures and contractual requirements.
- To ensure sound governance of Hackney Foodbank.
- Maintaining financial control and ensuring the organisation does not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are.
- Contributing actively to the board of trustees in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- Ensuring financial stability of the organisation, protecting and managing any charity property and ensuring the proper investment of the charity's funds.
- Drawing up and monitoring the implementation of internal policies which must include equality and diversity, safeguarding, as well as health and safety policies and key human resources policies, including grievance and disciplinary policies.
- Be an active trustee, making your skills, experience and knowledge available to Hackney Foodbank and seeking to do additional work outside trustee meetings, including sitting on sub committees.
- Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation and helping maintain effective board performance.
- Ensuring the organisation complies with relevant legislation.
- Jointly with other trustees, holding the charity "in trust" for current and future visitors.
- Activities must be undertaken in compliance with the organisation’s Memorandums and Articles of Association, Charity Commission regulations and Hackney Foodbank Trustee code of conduct.

• Excellent legal skills, with a minimum of three years’ post qualification experience (or equivalent) drafting and reviewing contracts, in a commercial environment, private practice or in-house legal team.
• Able to prioritise and manage a wide and varied workload.
• Excellent skills in building relationships and managing stakeholders.
• Experience working in the charity, volunteering and/or not-for-profit sector (desirable)

In this instance, we are reaching out to applicants from a Muslim background for a twelve-month, paid internship supported by the Aziz Foundation.
This opportunity is designed to broaden and deepen the intern’s understanding of Friends of the Earth’s ability to organise, win campaigns and ultimately to transform society. The focus will be on supporting campaigns through legal, policy analysis and research. This is not just desktop support, but also involves developing relationships with communities and the policy/legal community in order to effect real-world change.
You will work closely with campaigns and activism staff across the England, Wales and Northern Ireland family and tap into existing resources, programmes and tools across the organisation. You will be given guided support through the placement to learn about our work and that of the wider environmental movement.
Placement
You will be involved in a range of work that will give you opportunities for both learning and experience of campaigning and influencing policy. This will include everything from planning campaigns, liaising with our legal team and others on how to apply the law in what we do, reaching out to our existing network and to new individuals and communities to help bring them into our work. You will also carry out research with a particular focus on Wales/Cymru and Northern Ireland.
Throughout, you will be supported and mentored by a range of our colleagues so that by the end of your internship you will be well placed to work further within either Friends of the Earth and the wider environment movement. (Please note though this in an internship, there is not a permanent role automatically on offer after completion of this placement.)
