About the role and you
We are recruiting for a management accountant to work within our busy finance team at our Bromsgrove office.
You will be a professionally qualified accountant able to provide technical leadership as well as ongiong support to the Director of finance and coaching to the wider finance team. You will be a team player and have excellent attention to detail. You will need previous experience in management accounting as well as strong communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with non-finance staff. Previous sytems experience (Xledger preferred), as well as an excellent knowledge of Excel.

Join our busy Finance Directorate and play a key role in one of the UK’s leading conservation charities. We are expanding our Financial Planning and Reporting Team to support a major Finance Systems Replacement project, and we’re looking for a skilled finance professional to provide high-quality technical management accounting support on a fixed-term basis.
In this role, you will translate complex financial data into clear insights, prepare management information, support month-end processes, and work closely with colleagues across the organisation. You’ll create and discuss system-generated reports with non-finance teams, carry out analysis and forecasting, provide information for audit, support budget holders, and represent finance in stakeholder meetings.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Demonstrates the ability to produce clear, well-designed analyses that enhance core reporting by highlighting issues and trends requiring attention.
- Shows strong critical thinking, using probing questions to test, clarify and validate assumptions or face-value inferences.
- Communicates financial data clearly in both written and verbal formats to varied stakeholder groups, with the aim of informing and influencing decision-making.
- Has highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working with and influencing senior management.
- Is a fully qualified accountant or qualified by experience.
- Works confidently to rigid reporting schedules and deadlines from day one.
- Possesses good working knowledge of accounting rules, regulations and standards relevant to the charity sector (including FRS 102 and the Statement of Recommended Practice).
- Shows the capability to analyse, interpret and present financial data clearly and accurately.
- Communicates financial information effectively to both finance and non-finance audiences.
- Has experience within a medium-sized organisation (income £50m+) in preparing management reports for internal stakeholders.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Has experience managing large amounts of data in formats that are coherent, legible and easy to interpret.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Has experience working with accounting software in medium- to large-sized organisations (familiarity with Open Accounts is a bonus).
- Has experience communicating with internal stakeholders (including directors) as well as external auditors.
Additional Information
- The role can be hybrid within the UK however you may be periodically required to attend our HQ finance office at RSPB HQ in Sandy, Bedfordshire.
- This role may require some infrequent overnight stays away from home, depending on distance from HQ.
- This is a 6 month Fixed Term Full Time role for 37.5 hours per week.

About the Role
We’re seeking a Management Accountant to lead our Finance team and ensure the smooth running of financial operations across the organisation.
As Management Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in delivering accurate and timely management accounts, supporting financial decision-making, and ensuring compliance with charity-specific financial regulations. You’ll work closely with your line manager, Head of Financial Planning, to analyse financial performance and drive process improvements that enhance operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities of the Management Accountant role
- Provide day-to-day line management and oversee workload allocation within the Finance team.
- Maintain accurate records of income and expenditure in line with charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice). Training can be given.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and relevant charity legislation.
- Ensure accurate preparation and timely submission of VAT returns, Payroll and associated taxes.
- Monitor Restricted and Unrestricted funds, ensuring appropriate allocation and reporting.
- Work with operational teams to provide information, support income generation and facilitate reporting.
About You
- Proven experience in management accounting and team supervision.
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and a willingness to learn charity-specific regulations.
- Proficient in financial systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative working style.
- Empathy with the aims of hospice provision.

Greenhouse Sports is pleased to be exclusively partnering with Robertson Bell in their search for a Management Accountant to join their close-knit, dynamic team on a permanent basis, in this newly created role following an exciting period of change. Their mission is to deliver intensive sports coaching and mentoring to help develop young people from disadvantaged communities.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Management Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Finance Team by preparing monthly management accounts with variance analysis, budget holder reports, and statutory accounts. They will also contribute to finance projects, including the development of new budget holder reporting and process improvements.

The key duties of the Management Accountant will be as follows:
- Complete the preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
- Play a key role in the production of the statutory accounts including notes and reconciliations.
- Own the preparation of the newly created budget holder reports ensuring that reporting is complete and accurate.
- Monitor actual spending vs budget by providing a variance analysis for monthly budget holder reports.
- Extract relevant data from Xledger and prepare reporting for internal stakeholders.
- Work with a continuous improvement mindset to identify efficiencies in existing processes.
- Support other members of the finance team when required to complete tasks.
The successful candidate will have:
- A recognised professional qualification or be part qualified studying towards becoming qualified.
- Demonstrable experience of having worked in a management accounts capacity.
- Ideally, working knowledge of Charity SORP, but candidates without this are strongly encouraged to apply.
- The ability to communicate effectively with all financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- An enthusiastic and confident personality, with a key eye for detail.
