Job Title: Duty Independent Gender Violence Advocate (Duty IGVA)

Location: Lambeth, London
Salary: £23,085.69 per annum, inclusive of London weighting allowance 
Contract type: Part Time, Permanent 

Hours: 30 hours per week (days to be discussed). Please note that the the operating hours of the service are 8AM- 6PM Monday- Friday with the expectation to work on some days 8- 4pm or 10- 6pm to cover. 

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Duty Independent Domestic Violence Advocate to be the first point of contact for women who are impacted by domestic violence. You will work closely with victims of domestic abuse from the point of crisis and other gender-based abuse to provide high quality independent support to survivors all risk levels and their children..

In this role you will be part of a busy team. You will be the first point of contact for survivors who have been referred to the Gaia Centre. The duty IGVA will be responding to daily enquiries (specify from whom- public, agencies, individuals? over the phone and email as well as contacting survivors, assessing their risks and needs.

The duty IGVA will be responsible for carrying out and implementing safety plans and needs and will ensure an effective handover to the over to the relevant GAIA team for ongoing support. The post holder will also empower survivors by providing them with emotional, practical and personal welfare support. You will ensure that survivors are provided with a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, enabling them to access their rights, make decisions and increase their life options. The job involves working within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership protocols and procedures that prioritise the safety of survivors.

As part of this role, you will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on call rota.

For this role we pay a Recruitment and Retention Allowance to external candidates of £1500 (pro rata for part time roles). This is paid in two payments – half on commencement in the role and the other half following the successful completion of probation. The allowance is subject to deduction for tax and NI.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Teaching

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential

• Proven successful track record of planning and delivering high quality teaching of accredited and non-accredited provision in a relevant subject and at appropriate level(s).

• Experience of devising course outlines and schemes of work.
• Experience of assessing and recording progress, both in accredited and non-accredited learning and supporting learners.

Desirable

Role Purpose:

• Oversee Street Child’s rolling school construction programme in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
• Support in-school, community engagement, and economic empowerment activities.
• Work closely with local partners to manage the construction of 50-100 primary and secondary schools annually.

In this key role, you’ll work with local teams to plan, manage and oversee both proactive and reactive maintenance projects, ensuring works are delivered safely, professionally, on time, and within budget. You’ll also advise and support colleagues with property-related matters, from compliance and safety to improving sustainability and service delivery. 

You’ll manage contractors, support health and safety compliance, lead minor refurbishments, and oversee maintenance budgets. Where appropriate, you’ll also line manage site-based facilities staff and play an active role in driving improvements and ensuring our estate presents the best face of Blue Cross. 

We’re looking for someone with strong project management skills, sound technical knowledge of building maintenance and compliance, and the ability to build positive working relationships across a dispersed organisation. You'll be customer-focused, well-organised, budget-conscious, and motivated to make a difference to the environments where we care for pets and people. 

You will be needing to occasionally travel to our veterinary hospitals in Victoria, Hammersmith, Merton and Grimsby.

About you

In this role, you will need to be cost-conscious and able to evaluate the merits of different solutions to ensure value for money. Attention to detail is vital to ensure that programmes of work run smoothly and budgets are accurately maintained. You should feel confident managing multiple tasks at once and be comfortable switching between them as needed.

Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our prison-based reading and numeracy programme, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.

Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. 

This role will be prison based. A Birmingham-based housing association is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Manager to join their People team on a permanent, full-time basis.

Reporting to the Head of People Operations, you will lead a small team of two and provide strategic guidance across all areas of employee relations. You will be responsible for managing complex casework, supporting and coaching managers, developing policies, and driving a positive, fair and inclusive workplace culture. Acting as a key escalation point for high-risk cases, you will help safeguard the organisation against legal and reputational risks while promoting proactive employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the ER Advisory team, managing complex cases including disciplinaries, grievances, performance management and redundancies
• Act as a senior escalation point for high-risk ER issues and tribunal claims
• Provide strategic advice and coaching to managers and senior leaders on employee relations matters
• Develop and implement ER policies and ensure legal compliance and best practice
• Analyse ER data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for proactive interventions
• Design and deliver training for managers on ER topics and early intervention strategies
