About the ESU

The English-Speaking Union delivers high-quality oracy education programmes and projects across England and Wales. We believe every child should be able to make their voice heard and that oracy – speaking and listening – skills play a key part in this. Our debating, public speaking, and cultural exchange programmes aim to embed sustainable cultures of oracy in schools, and empower young people to engage with the world, to speak more confidently, and to listen to and understand different points of view. 

Role Overview

ESU Competition Leads host our ESU competitions, including the ESU Schools’ Mace Debating Competition, the ESU Public Speaking Competition and the ESU Performing Shakespeare Competition. The ESU Competition Lead is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of events (heats) throughout the competitions, with duties including Zoom hosting and MCing. If required, Competition Leads may sit on the judges’ panel and provide constructive feedback to students and teachers participating. You will also support and provide guidance for our volunteer judges, ensuring they have a positive experience while volunteering with the ESU. NB The ESU is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Therefore, we expect all contractors to share this commitment. All contractor appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) Disclosure. 

Responsibilities

 For all competitions you will:

• Support and promote the charitable objectives of the ESU, acting as an ambassador for the organisation
• Assist the ESU Competitions Team in ensuring competition heats run smoothly and act as point of contact for schools and volunteers on the day of heats
• MC or compere Zoom and in-person heats, engaging both students and audience whilst following ESU scripts
• Be the technical host for Zoom ESU competition heats, setting up and hosting Zoom meetings, creating break-out rooms and acting as tech support throughout heats
•  
• Provide accurate heat results in a timely manner to the ESU Competitions Team
• Support volunteer judges and ensure they have a positive and rewarding experience
• If required, be part of judging panels at ESU competition heats (which may include acting as chair judge) offering fair, positive, constructive and unbiased feedback based on our judging criteria
• Follow the ESU’s safeguarding policies and provide oversight of safeguarding and equity requirements, in line with ESU policies
• Signpost teachers and volunteers to resources, other ESU programmes and additional support, such as through the ESU website
• Undertake training sessions for continual professional development

     Person Specification

Essential criteria:

• Be over 18 years of age and have the right to work in the UK
• Be confident in engaging with and motivating young people of different abilities and backgrounds
• A passion for education, social mobility and/or developing young people's oracy skills
• Fully proficient in the English language with excellent spoken language skills
• A confident and engaging public speaker with experience hosting events or judging
• Technically competent, with experience in using Zoom professionally, ideally as a meeting host
• The ability to engage with and motivate young people of different abilities and backgrounds
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Commitment and ability to deliver a minimum number of ESU events between November - June
• Able to participate in mandatory training days
• Have access to a vehicle or be willing to travel via public transport
• Commitment to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults

 Desirable criteria:

• Experience in debate, public speaking or the performing arts
• Experience of teaching or professionally coaching groups of young people of any age
• Experience in teaching oracy, performance, public speaking and/or debating
• Experience of participating in ESU programmes and/or competitions
• Experience of judging ESU programmes and/or competitions
• Experience of working with UK schools (state or independent)

2. Following this, you will then be invited to attend either an in-person or online training day. This will be a skill-enriching, interactive session on the ESU, Competitions, judging and day of management.

3. The ESU takes safeguarding very seriously. Following a successful and complete interview process, all applicants will be expected to complete a basic DBS Check and ESU safeguarding training.

4. Once you receive your DBS certificate, you will be fully onboarded as an ESU Competition Lead.

5. You will be sent our competition diary so that you can sign up and start judging, MCing and leading competition heats!

The delivery of group support and activities will take place in person, and you will be office based three days a week with some remote working on other days before returning to full time in person working.

About the role:

This role is based in London with Hybrid working.

As a Senior IDVA you will be:

• The main purpose of the job is to effectively manage and develop a high quality, innovative and pro-active domestic abuse service for victims and their children, including those at highest risk. Also you will need to ensure that the service prioritises the safety, security and dignity of service users and their children.
• The job would also include you being lead in crisis situations and to provide advice and guidance on safeguarding issues and information sharing concern
• Work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse.
• Develop your team and address their individual development/performance needs, set individual and team objectives and undertake annual appraisals.

You will need:

• To be successful in this role, you will need to have an excellent understanding of domestic abuse, including the impact on victims and their children, and the legal and practical remedies available to these clients.
• Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practice and legislation relating to equal opportunities and diversity, inclusivity, safeguarding and risk assessments.
• Experience managing the delivery of domestic abuse services and managerial experience will also be necessary as well as having a thorough understanding of IDVA work.
• A proven ability to confidently use various IT systems including Case Management, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Outlook and other online applications/platforms.
• You would also need to hold a SafeLives IDVA training certificate, a relevant degree, a vocational qualification or have equivalent experience.
• An enhanced criminal record check and police vetting is required for this role.

The Senior Funding and Development Officer plays a key role at DPI, working to ensure that income meets the organisation’s needs, and in support of achieving the strategic objectives through the development and management of fundraising and donor relations.

The Senior Funding and Development Officer is responsible for identifying and pursuing diverse funding streams; writing applications, reporting back and progress letters to meet existing and future funders’ guidelines; monitoring the implementation of projects to ensure funders’ guidelines are met; and liaising with funders and other stakeholders. The Senior Funding and Development Officer  works closely with the Finance Officer to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to donors.

The Senior Funding and Development Officer  collaborates with Programmes  Officers with regards to expenditure across budget lines to ensure compliance with grant contracts and grants periods. Senior Funding and Development Officer assists the Finance Manager with audit preparations of accounts at the end of the financial year and ensures the timely drafting of the Trustee report.

TheSenior Funding and Development Officer works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Manager in the preparation and presentation of the annual organisational budget.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising and Grants Administration

• Leads the development and delivery of short, medium and long-term fundraising strategies for DPI
• Identifies and nurtures the successful implementation of appropriate grant funding and contracting
• Researches and assesses DPI’s eligibility in line with DPI strategy and donor criteria
• Produces and submits grants proposals, expressions of interest and donor reports
• Oversees compliance with funding requirement to ensure that deadlines and criteria for donor reporting are met, including financial reporting in close collaboration with the Finance Manager

Donor Relations

• Manages and develops external relationships as a representative of DPI, attending meetings and public events where necessary
• Follows up with potential donors to open up new funding opportunities
• Conducts regular updates with current donors to maintain and strengthen relationships
• Prepares and oversees the dissemination of external materials such as the Quarterly Update and Trustee Report to all relevant contacts
• Prepares background information ahead of DPI meetings with donors and prospective donors
• Oversees donor communication history, ensuring that notes and information are logged and shared accordingly

Project Development and Monitoring and Evaluation

• Leads process and system improvements/developments to ensure that all DPI material shared externally is of good quality, in line with the strategy and structure of the organisation
• Reviews all programme activities in line with the external environment and donor requirements to ensure sustainability and identify growth opportunities
• Assists the CEO and Programmes team to develop organisational work plan to ensure that all activities and research comply with grant applications and donor obligation
• Develops M&E and risk assessment frameworks to carry out monitoring and evaluation of activities to measure outcomes and the impact in relation to our strategic aims, and acting to make improvements if required
• Establishes close working relationships and develop efficient systems with key individuals in the programmes, research and finance functions, to access knowledge and information needed for funding propositions and reporting
• Maintains close collaboration with DPI staff to ensure sound project management, including by ensuring regular M&E meetings with programmes team are conducted to ensure that donor requirements and output standards are met

Financial Management

• Helps to develop and implement the organisation’s financial planning, budgeting and reporting processes along with the Finance Manager and the CEO
• Collaborates with Programmes Officers with regards to the allocation of expenditure across budget lines and donors, to ensure compliance with grant contracts.
• Assists the Finance Manager in their work on audit preparations of accounts at the end of the financial year, and ensures the timely drafting of the Trustee report
• Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Manager  in the preparation and presentation of the annual organisational budget.
• Ensures that the Chief Executive Officer, and all members of staff, are kept aware of their obligations and opportunities in relation to donors

Administrative Tasks

• Maintains an accurate record of donor information
• Ensures an effective and clean S-drive structure for files relating to grants and fundraising, including financial reports

Essential
• The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years experience  in grant administration, ideally with a focus on governmental and intergovernmental funding with strong numerical skills and some budgeting experience.

• A sound and current knowledge of funding streams via the UK, EU and UN or similar.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including evidence of structured thinking and the ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in others
• Self-starter with the ability to initiate projects and see them through to successful completion
• Ability to work independently, but also as part of a small team, on different projects
• Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Strong time management and organisational skills, ability to prioritise, pay attention to detail and attend to multiple assignments
• The flexibility, creativity, judgment and humour needed to work effectively in cross cultural settings
• Good interpersonal abilities for networking and interaction with high level stakeholders at DPI events
• Fluency in English
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), plus Outlook
• Ability to manage working relationships remotely

                                                                            Desirable

• Experience or interest in trust and government fundraising in relation to human rights, peace building and conflict resolution or similar fields
• Knowledge of the political situation in the areas of DPI’s current programmes
• An interest in peacebuilding, conflict resolution and transitional justice

The Role

This Senior Research Fellow post offers the opportunity to join our team of researchers working to achieve PLP’s strategic objectives. This role will focus on ensuring that justice is accessible to all.

As a Senior Research Fellow, you will help us shape and deliver our research agenda. With support from PLP’s Research Director and colleagues across the organisation, you will develop and lead high-quality research. Your work will be central to our efforts to design and advance a fair and inclusive administrative law justice system and advocate for a better resourced and more effective system.

You will be a team player, who embodies PLP’s values and supports collegiate and inclusive working culture. North East, working in person in Teesside three days a week

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader, with a passion for giving children the best possible start and with a strong belief in the power of communities. The role will work both locally and nationally, as part of the wider team. 

The Director will manage our client’s existing programme in Redcar and Cleveland with a talented and committed team (10 staff). They will also develop and manage the new programme in Middlesbrough, currently in Discovery phase, and recruit a staff team of 8- 10 people, with support from the charity’s central team.  Once set up, the Director will lead the following across both areas: 

• Building relationships and networks in the areas, across the public, voluntary and private sector 

• Leading the team to support delivery of the charity's local early years strategy in the areas

• Leading the delivery of a portfolio of complementary workstreams, continuously refining and strengthening the work so that we make the greatest possible positive difference to local children and families 

• Working closely with local partners and the national team to ensure that data and learning is captured and fed into strategic thinking and our national model 

Supported by our central team, the Director will enable local stakeholders to collectively support parents and children under 5, to improve outcomes in the early years and particularly improve levels of school readiness. Crucial to this work will be engaging with and empowering local parents who are the key to successful delivery of the initiative.

This is an exciting opportunity for an impact focussed leader, who brings: 

• Experience of working at a senior level with public sector and/or voluntary organisations involved in the delivery of services and support to families with children under 5 

• A track record of implementing concurrent and complex workstreams effectively, with proven project management and evaluation skills 

• Experience at leading and developing staff teams

• Experience of building networks of solid relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
