Everyday millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us, we will all need social care at some point.

We all have a right to hold public bodies to account. But most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 77% drop in community care legal aid cases since 2010 means we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken.

What we do

Access Social Care provides free legal advice and information for people with social care needs, helping achieve a better quality of life. We work with communities to increase knowledge of the law and our rights. We highlight the gap left by cuts to Legal Aid and provide advice for those who can’t afford it.

With a 98% success rate, our network of lawyers and barristers ensure fair access to justice when things go wrong. We collaborate with social services whilst ensuring legal obligations are met. We are working towards a future where social care is adequately funded, and we all get the support we need.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join our organisation. We have a new strategy and are growing quickly including across our senior leadership team. We have nearly tripled in size and income since we started operating in April 2020 and we anticipate that this strong growth will continue for the duration of our next strategic period. Access Social Care are an organisation of thirty-six people, and this is a new role in the People team coming at a period of growth to drive a thriving charity and help shape its future.

This is a fast-paced role whose emphasis is on policy / process / systems improvement as well as advising colleagues and managers across the organisation regarding all aspects of the employee lifecycle. You will work with people at all levels of the organisation supporting the People Director on strategy work streams as the organisation continues to grow and evolve.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all day-to-day HR processes within the employee lifecycle to ensure staff are supported appropriately and legislative responsibilities are fulfilled
• Work alongside the People Director to map or review processes across the employee lifecycle, identify blockers and seek to implement solutions that create efficiency and clarity 
• Advise on employee relations and discuss complex or sensitive cases with the People Director to decide the best course of action, ensuring that cases are resolved in a timely manner or be a trusted advisor to our managers with their people challenges
• Coordinate the delivery of projects, process and policy improvements as defined and prioritised within the People Plan, leading on workstreams as outlined by the People Director
• Support the People Director in sourcing training and learning solutions, and evaluating training
• Provide practical upskilling and training to managers and employees in HR practices and policy
• Coordinate recruitment efforts at Access Social Care, ensuring compliance with employment laws and providing guidance to managers. Manage the recruitment cycle and administration process from job ads to onboarding
• Support staff engagement activities across Access Social Care in conjunction with the People Director. These may include but are not limited to the following initiatives: staff survey coordination, and wellbeing events
• To be a super user and actively promote the use of the HRIS system (Bright HR) and ensure that electronic staffing records are updated and maintained accurately in accordance with GDPR
• Dealing with cyclical and ad-hoc data reporting and requests for information including data analysis
• Contribute to effective payroll administration ensuing information is shared with the Finance Officer in a timely manner, and collaborating with the People Director to address and rectify any issues and process improvements
• Work within the parameters of GDPR, ensuring data and information is protected and handled correctly
• Support the People Director as required in any duties which you could be reasonably expected to perform in line with this job description

Key Responsibilities

Spear Programme

• Lead group sessions of up to 10 young people, using coaching skills to transform their mindsets, and to maximise their potential in stepping into the world of work
• Prepare and deliver coaching sessions on a weekly basis and find creative ways of developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees. This includes running application workshops with past Trainees as well as maintaining records and reporting on statistics.

Relationship management

• Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses, and other organisations
• You will support with job fairs, mock interview days and welcoming external visitors to the centre

Church Community

• The Spear Coach is directly employed by Alive Church, meaning you are part of a vibrant church staff team and submerged in an exciting faith community

SUDEP Action is the only UK charity focused on preventing epilepsy-related deaths. We have the only epilepsy bereavement service freely available to anyone suddenly bereaved by epilepsy (including SUDEP). We’re looking for someone who has worked in a fundraising department and/or similar role before, preferably in the charity sector. We are looking for a Day Service Co-ordinator to join our art studio team and support people living with brain injury in our day centre in Haggerston.

You will take responsibility for organising and delivering activities in the Submit to Love art studio, such as supporting members in creating new artworks, planning and delivering events and outings, and engaging members in a variety of other activities in response to their needs and interests.

The role also involves providing advocacy and support (key working) for up to 12 members and ensuring the smooth running of the day service as a member of the co-ordinating team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Activities in the art studio:

•  Support members to engage creatively and develop their personal artistic practise.
• Work alongside the studio manager, day service members and volunteers to plan and deliver events, including artist led workshops, exhibitions and open studios.
•  Plan trips to cultural events and experiences.

Key working:

• Act as key worker for up to 16 members, checking in regularly about their engagement in the centre and their general wellbeing, and supporting them with information, advice, and advocacy as appropriate.
• Establish and maintain contact with members’ families, carers, and relevant statutory partners to facilitate good communication and better provide appropriate support.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including comprehensive individual risk assessments.

Day Service co-ordination:

• Work closely with colleagues and volunteers in the day service and other teams at Headway East London to create a welcoming, supportive, and stimulating environment for members.
• Share responsibility for practical tasks in the day service to ensure its smooth running.

Coram is the UK’s oldest children’s charity founded by Thomas Coram in London helping vulnerable children and young people since 1739. One of the nine members of the Coram group, Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) is the UK’s specialist centre for children’s rights in education, immigration, community care and family law, and provides significant international legal systems consultancy. We champion access to justice through information and advice, legal practice and representation, policy and strategic litigation. Our Legal Practice Unit provides advice and representation primarily under legal aid contract. Our Migrant Children’s Project promotes the rights of refugee and migrant children, young people and families through the delivery of advice, practice change through training and capacity building to professionals and systems change through research, policy and advocacy.

About the role

This role will provide financial and operational leadership and management for CCLC particularly focussed on the Legal Practice Unit and the Migrant Children’s Project but with support for the Child Law Advice Service and Coram International where required. Managing a small finance team, the role will hold primary responsibility for core financial functions within CCLC including legal aid billing and management and tracking of grant and other charitable funding. Through systematic and efficient financial management, the post holder will play a pivotal role in CCLC’s financial sustainability. The role will act as a key point of contact with Coram’s central finance team and a range of internal and external stakeholders on financial matters.

The role will also oversee the smooth running of the London and Colchester offices through line management of operations and administrative staff.

The role would suit a high organised and efficient business support professional with experience of financial management within the legal or charity sector. In particular, candidates with experience of legal billing and more specifically, civil legal aid billing, would be welcomed.

This is a largely office-based role in order to fully provide support to the finance and operations team. However, some remote / hybrid working may be possible depending the experience of the candidate after the initial settling in period (to be negotiated with the successful candidate).The finance team are split between the London and Colchester offices and the post holder should expect some travel to both locations. The large majority of the legal and policy team are based in London and as such regular (at least twice weekly) presence in our London office will be expected. However, on other days the candidate could be based in the London or Colchester office.

We are seeking a Fundraising Assistant at York Minster Fund for an initial fixed term contract of 12 months, commencing summer 2024. This part time, flexible role will support our team in administrative and fundraising tasks across a range of exciting activities and events, helping to raise funds for the Minster’s ongoing work.

Our ideal candidate will be a positive, enthusiastic and confident communicator across different groups of people and keen to gain experience across projects and events. We are looking for someone with some demonstrable customer service/administrative/business experience and sound IT skills; as well as an enquiring mindset with a willingness to learn about the fascinating world of philanthropy, fundraising and conservation. 

York Minster Fund is the lead fundraising partner for York Minster. We are an independent organisation, with a separate board of Trustees, who work closely with colleagues across the Cathedral to secure income for a number of much needed projects and programmes of work. Established in 1967, as an emergency response to an urgent restoration project, we secure funds from charitable foundations, major and corporate donors, legacy donors, individuals and events. 

Our funds provide much needed income for a wide range of projects, including the fabric and repair of the iconic Minster itself, the training of apprentices in traditional heritage crafts and strategic initiatives such as the realisation of the Minster's new international Centre of Excellence for Heritage Skills and Estate Management. 

In the last year we have built on existing strong fundraising relationships and techniques to explore new ways of engaging donors and digital audiences and this is an exciting time to join the Fund as we move forward on a number of major projects. As part of our small but highly experienced team, no two days are the same and the role could see you supporting with many different projects and tasks including donor events administration and delivery, correspondence and research.

This is a new role for the Circuit, replacing a volunteer. In designing the position, the Circuit has aimed for maximum flexibility to secure the best candidate for the role. Initially, the person will need physically to attend some meetings to familiarise themselves with the Circuit's operations and ensure a smooth hand-over. For the right person, though, there will be considerable flexibility about how the duties are fulfilled in the longer-term. It is specifically expected that the role will allow for flexible scheduling to accommodate other responsibilities, including caring.

The Richmond & Hounslow Circuit comprises seven churches in southwest London. As with all Methodist circuits, these churches function autonomously yet collaborate closely in their ministry and mission efforts. The Circuit oversees joint resources, including staff and property. Presently, it employs four full-time ordained ministers, one full-time lay pastor, and a part-time administrator. As a part of the Methodist Church, its mission is “to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission”. To fulfil this mission, the Circuit fosters a broad spectrum of ministry within its congregations, focusing on worship but also engaging in outreach to the homeless, asylum seekers, new parents, and various other groups. Release Counselling and Therapy for Women was set up in Brighton and Hove in January 2013, and registered as a UK charity in 2020, to provide affordable counselling and other forms of support for women across Sussex experiencing mental health distress. We specialise in maternal mental health, supporIng mothers and their babies during the perinatal period, a key Ime of transiIon in a women’s life in which many experience vulnerable mental health. As part of this, we aim to increase inclusion, reaching women often excluded from counselling and other mental health support due to cost.

Whilst we have offered a range of therapeutIc groups, workshops and 1-2-1 counselling over the years, we are currently focussing on delivering our flagship ‘Mother Nurture’ 10-week therapeutIc group for new mums, and our ‘Second Nature’ 8-week therapeutIc group for second + tIme mums across Sussex.

Our services are operated by a team of sessional qualified counsellors, and counsellors in supervised training, and work within the BACP Ethical Framework.

As the founding CEO is now moving on, we are looking to appoint a new CEO to lead us in this next season. Job Description

Job Title: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Brighton and Hove. The role is expected to involve homeworking plus external delivery, although may be subject to change.

Direct reports: Part-tIme Administrator/Bookkeeper, part-tIme Digital and Data MarketIng Exec plus sessional delivery staff

Summary of post

The Chief ExecuIve is responsible for the successful operaIon and development of Release Counselling and Therapy for Women CIO, in accordance with the Charity’s Strategic Plan and policies of the Board.

Remuneration

£46,464 - £50,512 pro rata, depending on experience

Main Purpose and scope of role

1.Leadership

Provide leadership for the charity and its staff by -

• Ensure the values of the charity are embedded through the organisation fostering a positive work culture that promotes collaboration, professional development and staff well-being.
• Build and maintain key partnerships to enhance the charity’s impact and reach within the community. Including, represenIng the charity to third parIes such as, funders, the public, other sector agencies, and statutory bodies.

2.Governance & Compliance

• Work closely with the board of trustees to ensure the charity adheres to the highest levels of governance including all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure the board of trustees are well informed of the work of the charity, providing them with all the information they require in order to exercise their fiduciary duIes and in accordance with their legal requirements.
• Ensure the organisaIon’s policies and pracIces are kept up to date and adhered to, including and ensuring effective risk management.

3.Strategy

• Work with the board of trustees to develop the strategic direcIon for the charity in line with the charity’s mission and objectives.
• Implement the strategic plans and communicate this internally and externally as appropriate.
• Keep abreast of sector developments, closely monitoring opportuniIes and threats, and taking acIon accordingly.

4.Operations

• Ensure the charity is resourced to meet the objecIves of the strategic plans.
• Lead fundraising activities for the organisation, including income generaIon, monitoring and evaluation securing diverse income from government grants, foundations, corporate sponsors and individual donors.
• Manage the financial performance of the charity, including setting budgets and providing financial reporting to the board of trustees.
• Develop effective controls, incorporating finance, data management, safeguarding, equalities, and monitoring systems.
• HR oversight.

5.Service delivery

• Manage the successful delivery of the charity’s work in line with its contractual obligations.
• Manage and upskill a team of staff, ensuring they are fully skilled and able to deliver effectively for the organisation.
• Ensuring all service delivery is impact driven and of the highest quality.

6.Communications and PR

• Manage all internal and external communicaIons for the charity.
• Act as a spokesperson and first point of contact for all press and media enquiries.
• Represent the charity at public events and conferences as opportunities present themselves.

7.Safeguarding

• To work alongside the Designated Trustee Lead for Safeguarding in creating a culture of high safeguarding standards throughout the organisation.
• To ensure that the statutory obligaIons with regards to safeguarding are met and any safeguarding issues arising are dealt with in an appropriate manner.

The Role

The purpose of the role is to support the smooth running of the organisation. Provide reception and general office support for our busy team

• Be the first point of contact for members of the public contacting Glass Door, answering the phones and logging all calls; dealing with incoming enquiries by telephone, email, website feedback or voicemail; passing on queries to colleagues as appropriate.
• Manage enquiries from guests and either responding to these or referring them to caseworkers as appropriate.
• Be responsible for day-to-day management of the office by dealing with incoming and outgoing mail (including franking and delivery to the post office).

Role Purpose

This is a senior support post of essential development importance to allow the Dean, Chief Operating Officer, Chapter and committees to develop and maintain an effective system of governance for the Cathedral with adherence to the highest standards of good governance practice. This will include relevant regulatory and legislative requirements. The post holder will provide comprehensive and effective secretariat support for Chapter and its statutory committees.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Governance administration

• Assist in the production and submission of a range of information required in order to demonstrate compliance;
• Liaise with external legal advisors as required;
• Assist the COO with returns, reports and filings for statutory bodies including the Charity Commission, Church Commissioners, Information Commissioner’s Office, HSE and Companies House;
• Act as the Whistleblowing Officer and assist in the working of the Whistleblowing Policy;
• Assist with the completion of questionnaires and reports for the Cathedral’s insurers, Association of English Cathedrals etc;
• Maintain the declarations of interest and gift registry records for senior staff and committee members and record in the minutes when committee members are conflicted out or need to declare an interest;
• Assist the COO in keeping a log of complaints under the Complaints Policy adopted under the Cathedrals Measure and help to ensure that complaints are dealt with according to the policy;
• Provide such other support at the COO reasonably requires including correspondence, research and diary management.

Committees administration

• Lead the co-ordination, preparation, planning and follow-up for meetings and other committee work associated with the governance of the Cathedral. This will include issuing invitations, booking rooms, issuing Zoom invitations, arranging refreshments and access needs, assisting in the drafting of agendas, gathering and circulating supporting papers for the meetings, attending meetings, taking confidential minutes, circulating and amending minutes and maintaining action trackers for the members of the following committees: Chapter, Finance Committee, Audit & Risk Committtee;
• Assist in the work of the Nominations Committee to recruit members for the new committees;
• Assist in the work of the Standing Committee as it prepares for Chapter meetings;
• Assist the Dean and COO in their governance responsibilities under the Care of Cathedrals Measure 2021, including being the point of contact with the Fabric Advisory Committee and liaising with its Chair and Secretary;
• Liaise with committee members and maintain good relationships;
• Liaise with professional advisers where appropriate and in consultation with the COO;
• Assist in the scheduling of training and circulation of information and papers for Chapter and committee members as required. 

Safeguarding administration

The Cathedral follows the safeguarding best practice and guidance set out in the Diocesan policy “A Safe Church” and also follows the policies and guidance set out by the National Safeguarding Team.

Reporting to the Cathedral Safeguarding Lead (CSL), the post-holder will:

• Assist the CSL in ensuring that safer recruitment practice is observed in all recruitment;
• Undertake the DBS checks for staff and volunteers if required, including verifying identity, submitting the applications and reporting to the candidate’s line manager/team leader when the checks have been completed. This will include advising colleagues as to which checks are appropriate and liaising with the Diocesan Safeguarding team and Volunteers & Community Officer;
• Maintain accurate records of all DBS checks carried out in a central register;
• Arrange for all new staff (paid and volunteer) to attend safeguarding training and arrange follow-up training for existing staff (every 3 years). This will include ascertaining which levels of training are required and which individuals will also need specific additional training for their roles;
• Liaise with the trainers to identify training sessions, book rooms and catering and arrange room set-up;
• Maintain accurate records of all safeguarding training carried out in a central register;
• Report to Chapter when required.

Additional responsibilities

• Support the COO in the coordination of risk management across the organisation;
• Arrange and manage the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and parish clerking duties;
• Ensure timely publication of statutory notices in advance of the annual APCM;
• Assist the COO with returns, reports and filings for the Parish;
• Support data protection compliance across the organisation;
• Ensure that the highest standards of professional performance are maintained;
