The Welfare Adviser will provide high quality specialist welfare benefits and housing advice, information and guidance to our service users, referring them internally and externally for additional advocacy and support as required, following organisational policies and procedures, and ensuring fulfilment of regulatory compliance with our Advice Quality Standard (AQS) accreditation, meeting the standards of quality in the delivery of advice services as required. Main accountabilities

- To contribute to the development of LAH Advice Programme, which aims to provide frontline, one-to-one advice and casework in key areas of need for the community, including welfare entitlements, housing, employment and immigration.

About you and the role
The purpose of this role is to lead on our finance strategy, and ensure all of our systems, reporting and processes are helping to drive forward the charity and deliver on our objectives at scale. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Directors to ensure that financial planning is effective and supported by accurate data analysis. You will report directly to Trustees as required and ensure that the highest standards of transparency and probity are maintained.
You will be joining the team during a period of growth in the size and complexity of our delivery. We currently have 20 employees and anticipate doubling in size within three years. You will have a crucial role in shaping our systems and processes to ensure we can scale effectively, both our existing programmes and a new membership-based programme that is in development. We’re looking for an experienced finance professional with an interest in effectively using technology and systems to drive efficiency, without compromising on accuracy or compliance.
You will support and mentor the Finance and Office Manager, ensuring that financial administration is carried out proficiently and in line with all legal and regulatory requirements, including ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all statutory filings are made accurately and on time. Your role will also encompass ensuring that we operate within legal & regulatory frameworks and stay up to date with changes in relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities:
- Developing a comprehensive financial strategy that supports the delivery of the charity’s objectives and activities
- Reviewing suitability of our current systems: Quickbooks for accountancy, Beacon CRM, PLEO for expenses management, Survey Monkey for data collection etc.
- Where necessary, identifying and implementing new software to ensure all systems and processes are robust, user friendly, deliver useful data analysis, integrate and/or improve automation
- Working closely with the Director of Transformations to translate the annual activity plan into an accurate organisational-level budget
- Advising the Chief Executive, team and Trustees, ensuring that benefits and risks of decisions are fully considered and fit with the overall financial strategy
- Oversee sound financial management and governance across the organisation
- Provide leadership and guidance to all things finance related, providing mentoring and support to the team
- Accountability for monitoring that the organisation’s services are, and will, run to budget, supporting budget holders and reporting promptly on risks
- Have ultimate oversight of the external audit and production of the statutory accounts, supported in delivery of this by the Finance & Office Manager
- Oversee production of management accounts and bespoke financial reports, including accurate forecasting, incisive analysis and accessible narrative commentary
- Support the Development team with financial submissions and other compliance areas (eg advising on and supporting with due diligence processes)
- Constantly seeking to develop and improve the organisation’s financial systems, policies and procedures to promote dynamic, best practice and up-to-date application of tools, systems and approaches
- Oversight of finance, governance and basic HR administration, supporting the Finance & Office Manager with high profile or complex queries, seeking specialist advice on financial or compliance matters as required

Skills & experience:
- You have interest and belief in our mission, to improve kids’ health through improving food and food education in schools
- You have full or partial qualification through an accredited accountancy body
- You have some experience in a senior finance role (eg Director, Head of, Management Accountant) in any sector, and some experience within a finance function in the 3rd sector (in particular familiarity with the Charity SORP and experience of administering restricted funds)
- You have experience of audit
- You enjoy a mix of leadership and rolling up sleeves to get hands on when the need arises
- You take a pragmatic and dynamic approach to robust financial management
- You can turn complex and dry data, into clear and engaging narrative
- You have project managed the implementation of new systems (accountancy / CRM / data)

Kinship is in the third year of delivering the first national peer support service for kinship carers in England. We have created 145 peer support groups and supported and trained kinship carers to create and lead their groups in a way which meets their needs.
With a new contract from the Department for Education, we’re now entering a new phase of our service with a focus on:

creating 90 new sustainable peer support groups in areas of most need over 21 months;

This role will coordinate the ‘hub’ resources and content with a focus on supporting sustainability and building resilience of peer support groups and their leaders. The role of the Peer Hub Coordinator will provide operational delivery of the Peer Support Hub. With excellent marketing, communication and digital skills this role will work with the Peer Support Hub Lead to develop an ‘in person’ and online peer support community.
In this context, your role supports the centralised ‘hub’ of the service, delivering an exciting programme of training, speakers, toolkits and resources to help peer support group leaders develop, build and sustain their group well. This will be building on and innovating the current Support Group Network.

You’ll:

- Meet regularly with the Professional Engagement team to discuss and plan activity in your region, working to a co-developed engagement plan for your PEN region. We will be flexible, taking into account your individual needs.
- Meet with the Professional Engagement Lead or Associate Director of Policy & Health Strategy after 6 months in the role for a review meeting and then annually thereafter (or more frequently if required).

As you develop a group and recruit support group leaders, you’ll provide standardised training and help the group to navigate forming and storming – providing reassurance and support to empower the group.
Once the group is stable, you’ll transition the support group leader/s over to the ‘Hub’ team to build confidence and knowledge to run their group independently. You’ll also support online groups and special interest groups to transition to independence.
You’ll ensure targets are met and that kinship carers receive a good experience.
Key responsibilities include:

About Rockinghorse Children’s Charity
Rockinghorse Children’s Charity supports children across Sussex. We support babies, children, young people and their families at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex.
We deliver and fund projects that enable doctors, nurses and other health professionals to do more. All of projects are led by the needs of children and young people and their families. We are thrilled to embark on an exciting new project, the Rockinghorse Wellbeing Service, designed to proactively enhance the mental health and well-being of hundreds of children, young people, and families living in Sussex. This innovative service will be situated at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton.
The Wellbeing Service Manager will be responsible for delivering certain activities based on their skills and experience, collaborating with third-party providers and volunteers for others. This may involve bedside activities to improve the experience of in-patients, as well as group activities within the hospital or out in the community.
Each activity will undergo careful planning and evaluation, incorporating the voices and perspectives of young people. This approach ensures that we provide the most impactful activities to meet their needs.
Our primary goal is to support children and young people managing various illnesses, conditions, and disabilities through activities that alleviate stress and foster connections with others undergoing similar experiences.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Wellbeing Service Manager to join our team and take the lead on this new service. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in elevating the overall wellbeing of our young patients.
