About the role
This role will contribute to the achievement of the “Forest for the Future” and CAR programmes objectives by monitoring project implementation against objectives, providing comprehensive support to the L&L team, and directly supporting partner NGOs involved in the projects.

Person specifications
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of and/or interest in forest governance and human rights, particularly in Central Africa. They should have experience and/or interest in providing project management support within a charitable organisation or in an international development context, as well as collaborating with local NGOs in developing countries. Additionally, they should have experience and/or interest in managing development project budgets, monitoring expenditure and processing payments.
Basic understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), project work plans, and logical frameworks is necessary, along with proficiency in producing high-quality financial and narrative reports.
The candidate must demonstrate the capability to manage projects in accordance with the requirements of institutional donors and contribute to strategic project development, including project design and the creation of funding proposals.
Furthermore, the successful applicant must be fluent in both written and spoken English and French.
They should also be willing to undertake travel for up to 16 weeks per year, including visits to remote forest areas.

Position: Health and Safety Officer (Property and Transport)
Contract: 18 months fixed term contract
Hours: Part-time (3 days/or 21 hours a week – (must be able to work Fridays)
Location: Office-based in London, N4 with flexibility to work remotely
Salary: £24,756 - £26,241 per annum (FTE £41,260 - £43,735) plus excellent benefits

About this job
Please note this is a part-time role 3 days/or 21 hours per week (Fridays must be worked but the other 2 days per week are flexible). The role is initially for an 18 months fixed term contract.
As a key member of our Services and Support team, you’ll be working with MS Society volunteer groups that provide transport services to their members and/or own property. You’ll also be supporting members of the Customer Services team to help them fulfill their health and safety responsibilities within each of the MS Society’s offices. This role includes travel across the UK to provide support and/ or training as required.
You’ll be working with our external auditors to manage the audit process, monitor and record compliance with the ‘MS Society Health and Safety risk management framework’ on property and transport and ensure materials in the framework are consistently and effectively used.
We’re looking for the successful candidate to have:
- A NEBOSH National General Certificate
- Trained Display Screen Assessment Assessor
- Be a Member of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
- Experience of working with in house Health and Safety systems that cover risk areas associated with a volunteer group network.
- Experience of working with volunteers.
- An in-depth up-to-date knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and practices, particularly as these relate to the voluntary sector.
- Experience of transport for people of all abilities run by the voluntary sector with a working knowledge of the related legislation.
- A working knowledge of the management of properties run by the voluntary sector.
- A working knowledge of DSE requirements and how to assess and apply them in a practical way.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, inspection and auditing procedures.

In October 2022 Salford City Council commissioned Salford CVS to undertake research into the strengths of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as part of their Joint Needs and Strengths Assessment.
Every three years since 2008, Salford CVS leads on State of the VCSE Sector research in Salford and also across Greater Manchester. Working with other local infrastructure organisations, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the VCSE sector. Our last research report was published in 2021 and we have started planning for the research to be conducted this year.
In August 2023 we further developed our VCSE sector research and insight work with the commencement of our Salford 99 longitudinal study. This research project is designed to understand the issues affecting the VCSE sector in Salford and aims to track 99 VCSE organisations every six months for a three-year period, so that we gain ‘live’ insight in between our three-yearly State of the VCSE sector large research project. Alongside this work we conduct a Pulse Check survey with a variety of VCSE organisations to get a snapshot of what is changing for them each quarter.
This exciting VCS Research and Insight role involves a combination of VCSE engagement and insight work across Salford.
