Charity People are seeking an experienced and confident Designated Safeguarding Lead to join a charity on an interim basis for six months. This is a vital role supporting adults across a wide range of community and specialist services. The postholder will provide expert safeguarding leadership, ensure safe practice, and offer guidance to staff working with vulnerable adults who present with complex needs. This position is required urgently due to the upcoming departure of our current safeguarding lead, so it would be ideal to have a handover period. There is potential for the role to evolve into a broader position as they continue to develop their approach across the organisation.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead will act as the first point of escalation for safeguarding concerns and provide clear, timely advice to staff and managers. The role combines day to day operational safeguarding oversight with longer term development of governance, compliance, and safe practice across services in Surrey. You will work closely with frontline teams, service managers, and the Director of Services to support safeguarding decision making, identify risk, and maintain consistent high standards across all services. This is a hands-on role that requires visibility, relationship building, and confidence working within a busy and diverse organisation.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide expert safeguarding advice on cases
• Oversee safeguarding processes, audits, compliance, and record keeping

• Escalate cases appropriately to external agencies including MASH, Adult Social Care, and other statutory partners

You will bring substantial safeguarding experience, ideally within adult services, and hold a minimum Level 3 safeguarding qualification. You will be confident in managing complex cases and navigating multi agency processes.

You will be comfortable working in fast paced environments, able to hold a mixture of reactive and proactive responsibilities, and bring resilience, sound judgement, and a calm approach when supporting staff and service managers. Experience in mental health, outreach, domestic abuse, trauma informed practice, criminal justice, or community support services will be an advantage.

You will bring:

• Significant safeguarding experience and confidence working with adults at risk
• Level 3 safeguarding qualification as a minimum (Essential)
• Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and statutory processes
• Ability to provide clear guidance and hold others to account

What will you be doing?

Our Research Officer will play a key pivotal in strengthening the evidence base for innovation across the UK’s justice systems. The role will have a particular focus on improving outcomes for women in the criminal justice system and for families in the family justice system, including through our work overseeing FDAC.

Undertaking qualitative and mixed methods research, you will draw out the voices of people with lived experience and frontline practitioners on issues like:

AHF is seeking an England Development Manager (Heritage Revival Fund) to co‑lead our core grants and advisory programme across England. This role has been created following the recent announcement of significant new investment, which will support the expansion of the Heritage Revival Fund through to 2030. This investment will enable AHF, in partnership with DCMS and Historic England, to provide grants to hundreds of communities across England, helping them bring neglected historic buildings back into use.

Ideally based in southern or central England with focus on southern half of the country. The postholder will work jointly with the current England Development Manager (HRF), who will focus on the northern half of England. Together, they will oversee activity and workflow across the whole country. The role also includes joint management of the England grants team (who work remotely) and programme budget, working flexibly and collaboratively to ensure the successful delivery of AHF’s core programme.

James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.

James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it.   

James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.  We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 4,300 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need.

In early 2026 we will be opening our fourth centre in Birmingham. Our new centre in Birmingham will be there to support suicidal men living in the West Midlands.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist, you will work closely with the Head of Centre to provide strong clinical leadership and oversight while also delivering direct therapeutic work with men experiencing suicidal crisis and their supporter(s). You will play a key role in supporting the clinical team to deliver our unique intervention and to co-produce effective, individualised safety plans to help men remain safe.

This role requires an experienced mental health professional or therapist with a strong background in suicide prevention, excellent risk assessment and formulation skills, and demonstrable experience of supervision, line management, and leadership. Training, induction, and ongoing support will be provided by the Head of Centre and the wider James’ Place team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Senior Clinical Duties

· Work as a duty therapist to triage and assess suitability of James’ Place referrals daily

· Take full clinical responsibility of the men under James’ Place care, as a co-leader of the clinical team and in consultation with Head of Centre

· Lead and support peer support sessions, caseload discussions and reflective practice with the team

· Create an environment in which confidentiality, privacy and dignity are respected and be clear with clients about limits of confidentiality

· Deputise for the Head of Centre when required

Clinical

· Conduct initial Welcome Assessments with men in a suicidal crisis, assessing risk and the suitability of the James’ Place intervention and co-producing effective safety plans

· Deliver our therapeutic intervention, building trust and exploring the reasons for crisis

· Use the Lay Your Cards on the Table intervention to encourage men to talk about and explore their feelings, attitudes and behaviours and develop positive coping strategies

· Escalate care to appropriate services when necessary, including emergency services and secondary mental health teams

· Deliver one-off guidance sessions to supporters of men under the James’ Place care

· Work collaboratively with other professionals to coordinate comprehensive care

· Undergo clinical supervision with a qualified supervisor to reflect on clinical work and raise any issues or concerns arising from work

We are expanding our team of clinicians to deliver our clinically proven intervention at our James’ Place centre in London. As a Suicide Prevention Therapist, you will be an experienced mental health professional or therapist with demonstrable interest in suicide prevention. THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Administrator to support the administration and operations processes at our new James’ Place centre in Birmingham, due to open in Spring 2026. You will be the first point of contact for men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis and their supporters and will take a key role in in facilitating a warm and welcoming introduction to the centre. You will be expected to set and maintain the tone of the experience at James’ Place and provide efficient and effective administrative support to the centre team. Under the guidance of the Centre Manager, you will process referrals, conduct accurate record keeping and help to ensure the centre runs safely and smoothly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Administration

· Covering daily administrative tasks and duties at James’ Place Birmingham including:

· Being the first point of contact for referrers and men in distress, greeting visitors, answering the phone, booking appointments, and responding to email enquiries.

· Dealing with enquiries over email and telephone, scheduling/amending appointments and taking messages as required.

· Speaking to men in distress who have contacted the centre and, where appropriate, taking self-referrals over the phone.

· Processing referrals and maintaining accurate records at all times in line with our administrative procedures.

· Supporting users of the service to access information about other agencies.

· Maintaining an effective appointment system ensuring all the resources at James’ Place are used efficiently.
