About Bite Back 2030
We’re surrounded by junk food. From the moment we're born, every second of every day, children are being targeted. Giant companies manipulate them with colourful, cuddly, clever marketing, deceive them with packaging claims and pump products at them that are full of junk. It's become the cultural wallpaper. Now, it risks endangering the health of a generation.
In the UK, nearly a third of children aged 2-15 face a higher risk of food-related ill health in their futures. The good news is, it's preventable. And we're biting back.
Bite Back is a youth activist movement challenging a food system that's been set up to fool us all by:
1) Calling out the manipulation of the junk food giants.
2) Demanding higher standards from food marketing and from everyday food itself.
3) Mobilising and equipping young people in the fight for better food.
We do all this so we can bite back against a global epidemic of food-related ill health.
About Bite Back in Schools
Bite Back has delivered our youth social action programme — Bite Back in Schools— to over 120 schools over the last two years. Who We're Looking For:
At NEF, we're searching for a passionate and dedicated person to join us as an Associate Community Organiser. You will have experience of making change happen with communities impacted by inequality. You will be passionate about developing people and working with diverse communities to enable people to make change happen together. You will be a team player, be keen to learn new skills and have a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will be located with a partner organisation rooted in one of four locations across the UK, Nottingham, Greater Manchester, Lambeth, and Newham. You will bring community organising into the work of the organisation and place it right at the centre of the Power to Prosper programme.
Power to Prosper is a partnership project between The Runnymede Trust and New Economics Foundation aimed at tackling the underlying causes of poverty, inequality, and problem debt in the United Kingdom. The project recognises that the existing economic system leads to profound inequalities that disproportionately impact marginalised groups, including Black and minority ethnic communities, single-parent families, and households with disabled members. The programme will also take an intersectional lens with a strong emphasis on race equity.
This work will involve working with NEF and Runnymede teams to listen to people about the causes and potential solutions of inequality, poverty, and problem debt and to equip people that are most impacted with the skills to act together at a local, regional, and national level to address those issues. The successful candidate will report to a Community Organiser. The post sits in the Campaigns and Engagement Team at the New Economics Foundation, and you will work closely with colleagues at the Runnymede Trust. You must have a demonstrable commitment to anti-racism and have a track record of working with impacted groups with a good understanding of the wider context that causes inequality.
NEF wants to be an inclusive workplace with a diverse body of staff. We don’t want to conform to the traditional think tank model where people from certain backgrounds are hugely under-represented. We know we have some way to go in this and are therefore genuinely keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic people; women; people with disabilities or impairments; people who identify as LGBT+; people with experience of mental health problems; and people who identify as working class or have done so in the past.
Previous think tank experience is not required.
If you are disabled and have the essential skills and experience to do the job, we will invite you to an interview. If you need information in a different format, please let us know.
We will make use of positive action to select between candidates of equal merit as a way to address under-representation in our workforce.
Application Details:

· Online Event with Partners: 7th May at 12pm and 5pm
· Interview Dates: w/c 20th and w/c 27th May 2024

Overview
The National Paralympic Heritage Trust (NPHT) has embarked on a new exciting five-year strategy – ‘Becoming Seamlessly Inclusive 2023-2028’. To help us on this journey, this is an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Trust’s ‘Volunteer and Trainee Support Officer’, a key role within our organisation. The NPHT is a young dynamic and diverse organisation and a leader in accessible heritage. Background
The NPHT was formed in 2015 with the core purpose to ‘enlighten and inspire future generations by celebrating, cherishing and bringing the Paralympic heritage and its stories of human endeavour to life’ and in doing so, to challenge negative perceptions of disability. Our purpose is to celebrate, cherish and bring the heritage to life, in a compelling and evocative way, securing a legacy, feeding a growing public interest since London 2012, changing attitudes, and instilling national pride.
In our role as caretakers of one of the World’s most important disability history collections, the Paralympic movement, we aim to become, and help others become seamlessly inclusive. From 2023 to 2028 for every £2 we spend, we aim to positively broaden somebody’s understanding of disability and transcend heritage access.
In our first 5 years 2017 to 2022 we have reached over half a million people across the UK, and overseas (over 50% of our website visitors are from abroad representing 195 different nations), establishing an accredited museum and collection of international importance. Our learning programmes and digital engagement are recognised as providing ground-breaking access to D/deaf and disabled audiences.
Our purpose and moral responsibility is to continue to bring this unique British heritage to life, building awareness of Paralympic history, sport and the individuals involved in its development.
We seek to do this in a compelling and evocative way that pushes the boundaries of access for all, changing attitudes, serving national inclusion agendas, and instilling national pride.
The NPHT is a registered Charity 1165416.
The founding partners are the British Paralympic Association, WheelPower – British Wheelchair Sport and Buckinghamshire Council.
