Director Jobs
About the Youth Endowment Fund
We’re here to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to change things.
In recent years, violent crime involving children has increased. This is a tragedy. Every child is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.
The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment that exists to reverse this trend. We will achieve this by finding out what works to prevent youth violence and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. We do this by funding, evaluating and then spreading the very best work on reducing youth violence across England and Wales.
Central to this is the evaluation team. The team is responsible for commissioning and monitoring complex and rigorous impact evaluations from experts in the field.
The Senior Evaluation Manager will play a key role in supporting the Assistant Director of Evaluation to lead elements of evaluation work. The post holder will also lead a team of two Evaluation Managers, ensuring they have the support to deliver a portfolio of evaluation projects.
Key responsibilities
The core of your job is to ensure that we are excellent at evaluation, so we can find out the best ways to prevent children and young people from becoming involved in violence.
Evaluation
Working with the Head of Evaluation the post holder will:
-
Implement the processes to assess the quality of evidence presented in funding applications and provide funding recommendations to the Grants and Evaluation Committee.
-
Shape the evaluation approach for individual grant rounds, including leading on this for a small number of rounds.
-
Provide technical expertise on evaluation to the team and lead the development of YEF’s thinking on one or more areas of evaluation.
-
Lead the delivery of YEF’s evaluation work, designing, commissioning and managing complex and large-scale evaluations.
-
Be responsible for YEF’s evaluation policies and reporting templates, ensuring they remain consistent and fit for purpose.
-
Be responsible for the ongoing development of YEF’s commissioning guidance.
Team management
The post holder will likely lead the recruitment, management and development of a team of Evaluation Officers and will:
-
Ensure they have the knowledge, skills and support to carry out their work effectively.
-
Provide regular feedback and coaching on written outputs.
-
Supervise and project manage the team’s evaluation work, providing quality assurance and monitoring of progress against project plans and project budgets.
Collaborative working
The post holder will contribute to the wider YEF team and will:
-
Be accountable to YEF’s Fund Leadership Team for the delivery of evaluations, making sure they are on time and on budget, including reporting on risks and issues.
-
Work closely with colleagues across YEF and specifically the Programme team.
-
Ensure high-quality evidence is at the heart of all YEF activity and that the evidence we produce is communicated in a clear and accessible way which will drive sustainable change.
-
Support the management of YEF’s panel of evaluators and expert panel.
General
The post holder may be involved in other elements of YEF's projects, working with senior colleagues to commission, scope and deliver projects.

-
You don't want your days to pass without making a difference. You want to play a significant part in reducing the level of violence involving young people and see the value in an evidence-informed approach.

You have strong knowledge, experience and technical expertise in evaluation methodologies including the ability to critically appraise the design of a variety of different evaluation designs.
-

Earthsight is looking for an experienced campaigner to lead our policy and comms work delivering impactful analyses and advocacy on the impacts of Western consumption on the world’s forests, native biomes and local communities.
Earthsight is a non-profit organisation dedicated to researching and investigating environmental and social crime and injustice. We use cutting-edge investigative methods to uncover and expose wrongdoing. Since emerging as a fully-fledged organisation in 2016, our reports have garnered headlines, won awards and triggered major changes by governments and corporations.
We seek to create positive change by influencing government policy, uncovering greenwash and raising awareness among key constituencies about the impacts of global supply chains on the world’s forests and forest communities.
Most global deforestation is driven by industrial production of a handful of major commodities, including beef, soy, palm oil and wood. A large chunk of this production is to meet demand in Western consumer markets. Over the past few years, Earthsight has played a key role in highlighting the complicity of corporations and consumers in the EU, UK and US in the destruction of forests overseas, as well as the abuses of local people which accompany that destruction. As part of a global coalition, we have succeeded in getting laws passed or under development in all those jurisdictions which aim to clean up these supply chains. Now we need to ensure those laws are effectively enforced.
This role will be key to that. As part of a small team, you will help design and coordinate implementation of our policy strategy and outputs. You will represent the organisation in meetings with policymakers, government authorities and civil society, as well as help draft and disseminate policy briefings and other advocacy material. Earthsight is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to ensuring careers in the charity sector are open to all. We value difference and believe it enhances our capabilities. We therefore particularly encourage applications from people from a range of different backgrounds.

- Build and maintain relationships with key policy stakeholders in Europe and the UK, including policymakers, civil servants, civil society, enforcement authorities

We support a thriving local voluntary sector, so that anyone who wants to volunteer, or start a community group has good, local advice and support. As a small energetic team, we work collaboratively and flexibly, supporting each other as well as our members.
We are seeking a proactive, motivated and solution-focused leader with a track record of developing and delivering across a broad portfolio, who makes strong connections and relationships within, and between, organisations across sectors. Our new Deputy CEO will have excellent insights into local infrastructure organisations, and provide vision, strategic direction and leadership to challenge, develop and support them to thrive. You will have oversight of our operations and member support – including developing a suite of products for our member offer, overseeing grant dissemination, with knowledge and understanding of quality assurance and accreditation systems. You will also be responsible for developing and seeking out income opportunities from a wide range of sources.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
This role will primarily sit within our Capacity Building and Standards (CB&S) function but will work closely with our Innovation and Practice (I&P) and Advocacy and Communications (A&C) functions.
The CB&S function aims to build capacity both inside and outside of public institutions to embed the processes, skills, structures and cultures needed for effective public participation in decision-making. The I&P function is responsible for the deliberative, dialogic and participatory projects and processes that we run. The A&C function aims to build political and public understanding of and support for making participation and deliberation an everyday, integral part of our democracy.
This role will have a thematic focus on public engagement in decision-making within the science, technology and data sectors. Candidates do not need an educational or work background in this sector, although it would be useful, but we would expect the successful candidate to take a keen interest in these topics.
Involve achieves its impacts by growing expertise in sector-specific areas where public engagement is important. Science and tech represent policy areas where citizen engagement on both principles and practice is vital and where public engagement can also open the door to broader deliberative democratic interventions and feedback loops. Technological advancement, including AI, presents risks and opportunities and will be an ongoing priority for government with five critical technologies likely to be central to UK policy for at least the next Government.
Involve has a significant pedigree and is well networked in the area of public engagement in science. Over the last 20 years we have been thought leaders in this space, in particular running the government’s science and tech engagement programme, Sciencewise. We have developed a reputation for best practice public dialogue, deliberation and capacity building.
Given the opportunity to grow this area, our reputation, and the important democratic need, we don’t want to stand still.
As Engagement Lead you will play a central role in leading Involve’s work, and building out our strategy, on public engagement in the science, technology and data field. The job will involve leading on our Sciencewise programme of public dialogue as well as supporting, growing and communicating our science and tech public engagement in general. You will be a proven project leader and strategic thinker looking to make your next move and develop your leadership and profile in this interesting and important area of public engagement in decision-making.
