Job Summary
The role of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is to provide leadership, strategic direction for HEH Mind. Demonstrating commitment to our values at all times.
Key areas of responsibility:
- To provide strategic, values based leadership of HEH Mind and delivery of strategic objectives
- Overall responsibility for the strategic and financial management of the organisation
- To ensure that Havant and East Hant’s Mind’s values, objectives and policies meet the needs of people experiencing mental health problems
- Act as an effective ambassador for Havant and East Hants Mind’s work in the local community and build support for the work it does
- Overall responsibility for ensuring that the resources of HEH Mind are managed effectively, according to legal requirements and agreed quality standards

Main Duties and Responsibilities
External relationships
To promote the organisation as an external ambassador, developing its public profile and brand in a way that:
- Develops and maintains constructive and high-value alliances, partnerships and networks with all principal stakeholders and supporters and with National Mind
- Encourages, supports and secures opportunities for financial sustainability, growth, and the promotion of the role of Havant and East Hants Mind externally
- Maximises our connections with the aim of maintaining and / or growing our funding base.
Seek out and develop effective networks with all principal supporters and stakeholders, ensuring Havant and East Hants Mind is presented in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Maintain the organisation’s commitments as a member of the National Mind network and ensure that we maximise the benefits of membership by working closely with the network.
Leading and Managing an Effective, Sustainable Organisation
- Ensure Havant and East Hants Mind’s Mission, Vision and Values are communicated clearly and are applied consistently.
- Provide leadership, management and administration of the organisation in the execution of the strategic plans and policies.
- Develop and maintain an organisational culture of innovation, positive risk taking and employee empowerment.
Inspire and lead staff to develop and deliver innovative and effective mental health care.
- Ensure Havant and East Hants Mind has the resources (human, material and financial) to operate as efficiently as possible
- Ensure there are processes in place to maximise the potential of staff and volunteers.
- Ensure that the organisation is responsive to the needs of people with mental health problems, and that they have a voice in how it is run.
Oversee the development of business plans and budgets that allow the delivery of sustainable, high-quality services which are rooted in the community and have a focus on recovery
Financial leadership and management
- To be responsible for the overall financial health of the organisation, ensuring that appropriate budgets are prepared, approved, monitored and controlled and holding accountability for co-ordinating the work of the management team on funding bids.
- Ensure programmes and projects are developed and operated within agreed budget parameters
- To work with the organisation’s appointed accountants to ensure best practice in all areas of financial management and compliance
- To improve current funding levels to consolidate and/or expand the organisation; working collaboratively with the Deputy CEO and Business Development Manager.
Strategic Leadership & working with the Board of Trustees
- To support and advise the Board in setting vision and developing strategic plans, providing the strategic context in terms of mental health, health and social care policy and practice, and funding options.
- Provide Trustees with an annual strategic/business plan; to lead the strategic planning process, developing and implementing a strategic plan for the organisation with the assistance of staff and volunteers, including financial, funding and human resources strategies.
- Ensure a long-term strategy is in place to guide Havant and East Hant’s Mind in achieving its objectives.
- Work with the Chair of Trustees to ensure that governance structures are appropriate, and that the Board and its Sub Committees are supported to have effective oversight of the organisation.
- Support the Chair of Trustees in ensuring the continued engagement of all Trustees.
- Advise the Board of Trustees on fulfilling their governance responsibilities.
- Produce reports as required by the Chair of Trustees.
- Develop policy proposals for discussion and decision by the Board of Trustees.
Legal compliance and quality
- To ensure that appropriate safeguarding and compliance systems are in place to meet the requirements of commissioners, Charity Commission, National Mind and other quality assurance bodies.
- To ensure that Havant and East Hants Mind meets its constitutional and legal responsibilities and that it has the necessary resources (human, material, financial) to meet its obligations and to operate effectively.
- To develop, implement and manage systems for setting and meeting quality standards throughout Havant and East Hants Mind’s services, projects and processes.
- Ensure senior colleagues and Trustees are updated on commissioning, policy and other changes that affect the business and service delivery.
- Liaise and negotiate with representatives of statutory bodies as required.
- Ensure the organisation discharges its constitutional and legal obligations in relation to charity, employment and other relevant legislation.
- Lead on quality assurance processes in relevant areas, including Mind Quality Mark

Internews seeks an experienced Project Director for a four-year European Commission (EC)-funded project to advance the global response to increasing the resilience of at-risk independent media. The Project Director will lead and manage a consortium of four international NGO and academic implementing partners, overseeing and coordinating the design and implementation of a diverse portfolio of activities in multiple countries worldwide, as well as project monitoring and evaluation and a robust learning agenda. Strong skills in project financial management and communications are required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Lead the Inception Phase of the project, working closely with consortium members, the EC, and other awardees to finalize target country selection, select research initiatives, draft the project workplan and monitoring and evaluation plan, and determine country-based activities.
· Serve as Internews’ primary point of contact with the European Commission, establishing and managing strong partnerships and dialogue with EC representatives in Brussels as well as country-level delegations.
· Effectively manage the project consortium, ensuring transparent communication processes and protocols.
· Pro-actively coordinate activity design and management with Internews Regional and Thematic Directors who manage Internews programming in key geographic regions and technical areas.
· Provide strategic, operational and representational assistance to ensure that activities are meeting their goals and targets, recommending program adjustments when necessary to keep the project on track;
· Regularly travel to London and Brussels, as well as target countries, for project and donor management purposes;
· Cultivate and strengthen relationships with local partner organizations and ensure that implementation is responsive to the needs of partners and beneficiaries;
· Track and report project progress and activities monthly against work plans;
· Oversee program monitoring and evaluation to ensure effective implementation and to measure activity impact;
· Working with the Monitoring and Evaluations specialist and team, ensure a robust learning agenda and deliver a learning symposium at project’s end with the consortium and EC.
· Maintain a thorough knowledge of key issues affecting independent media (print, broadcast, digital), and a general understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing independent media globally;
· Ensure the project is in compliance with all grant and cooperative agreement rules, requirements and regulations as well as with Internews internal policies and procedures;
· Serve as the primary budget authority over the project, responsible for ensuring all costs charged to the project are allowable, reasonable and correctly allocated;
· Accept fiduciary responsibility for all funds advanced for the purpose of the project;
· Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and oversee all project staff.Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
· At least 10 years of experience in media and program development, including senior-level management of personnel and financial administration;
· Donor grant management experience with EU funding and wider donor experience is essential;
· Professional experience in the media sector is an asset; experience managing assistance programs supporting media and/or civil society required.
· Experience as a manager or trainer with professional capacity-building programs for journalists and media outlets an asset.
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience in some or all of the following areas:traditional, digital, and social media; media and internet law and policy; information disorders/ disinformation; and/or sustainability models for media;
· Excellent soft skills, including diplomacy, interpersonal and communication skills, with a problem-solving attitude and as a self-starter who works both independently and as a collaborative team player;
· Willingness to travel regularly to London and Brussels, as well as target country visits;
· Additional language skills are a plus;
· University degree or equivalent experience.

Baird and Co Recruitment, a specialist Social Housing recruitment firm, have been retained by The Yardley Great Trust Group and Sir Josiah Mason Trust in their acquisition of a Finance Director.
The role will work across both businesses following their partnership agreement in January 2023. Both businesses are steeped in the history of Birmingham, with the origins of The Yardley Great Trust Group going back to the 14th Century and SJMT’s beginnings in 1868. Their work in the Alms House arena is also highly individual, an area of support found in the heritage of SJMT.
The Finance Director role would ideally start swiftly and will take on a largely strategic direction whilst still requiring operational input.
Based in Olton, candidates with experience in a senior leadership role in finance whilst holding an understanding of how charities, housing providers or public sector organisations work will be highly advantageous.
The Finance Director post will cover many facets including, but not limited to:
Executive Leadership
- Working with the executive team to develop and manage the delivery of robust corporate, strategic and financial business plans
- Demonstrating positive leadership behaviours and bringing values to life within the organisational culture
- Effectively planning and providing for the resources required to action strategic and operational plans
- Undertaking quarterly reviews of the Charity's Risk Registers, reporting on major risks and mitigations at each Board meeting.
Financial Strategy and Control
- Leading on the delivery of strategic and annual financial business plans, ensuring viability is regularly tested through scenario modelling, appraisals, and stress tests
- Taking responsibility for annual budget and management accounts processes and preparation of statutory accounts
- Maintaining up-to-date reserves policies that meet the requirements of both the Charity SORP and RSL SORP
- Managing relationships with investment managers, ensuring regular review of performance and satisfaction
- Developing and maintaining effective systems of financial control that ensure that business plans are continually reviewed and reported on
- Maintaining overall responsibility for the computerised accounting system, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, cash book and nominal ledger
Treasury
- Being responsible for each Trust’s Treasury Management strategy and policy to ensure the availability of and flexibility of funding to support the achievement of strategic objectives and reduce exposure
Risk Management
- Leading on the development of risk management strategies and registers, audit frameworks, procedures and appraisal systems for capital projects and all other significant areas of risk.
Growth and Innovation
- To support the Chief Executive in the development of the Strategic Business Plans in a way that supports innovation and growth in services
ICT / HR
- Leading on the development and delivery of an effective ICT and Telecoms Strategy which supports mobile and agile working and customer relationship management that underpins our drive for excellent business
- Supporting with the development, implementation and review of an effective People Strategy which supports the vision and values of each Trust
- Reviewing the administration of all statutory returns and sector-relevant returns/surveys
- Leading on the annual remuneration review to approve or decline and make recommendations for salary increases
- Taking responsibility for the outsourced payroll and workplace pension scheme
- Overseeing the relationship with the outsourced IT support provider, ensuring optimal support to staff and monitoring performance against contract
- Working with and developing the use of financial accounting software to meet the operational and strategic development needs of the business

- Proven experience at a senior leadership level in a finance environment
- Experience preparing financial business plans, modelling scenarios and sensitivity analysis
