About this role:
As Head of Finance, you will:
- take day-to-day responsibility for the finance and accounting functions, ensuring systems are working effectively, suppliers are paid, payroll is completed, and ensure the new finance system meets the needs of the organisation,

About this team:
The purpose of the Finance Department is to support the rest of Dogs Trust in achieving the strategic aims of the charity. They work to ensure financial (and non-financial) systems and controls function effectively and limit the exposure of the charity to related risks, providing accurate, timely financial information and of course, paying suppliers in a timely fashion.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsible for:
- Financial oversight and leadership.

Set in a leafy heritage building, and ‘T&T2’, our second venue in Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, we offer something for everyone. Delphside Limited is entering an exciting phase of change, but is mindful of the challenges the mental health care and charity sector as a whole is facing.
To help mitigate this this, we are looking to enhance our Governance and control systems in terms of our financial and administration management.
The role is a temporary role (6-12 months) to help direct and support changes of financial systems, data control processes and to help ensure the current team, including our current Finance Manager, are supported with the implementation of a more up to date and effective way of working.
Ideally you will be a fully qualified accountant, but equally we would welcome applications from individuals who are qualified by experience or accredited qualification (e.g. AAT Level 4, ACCA/ACA qualified etc.) It is essential you have proven experience of delivering strategic leadership in finance, preferably (but not essentially) in the charitable sector and that you can deliver changes of processes and systems.

Main Responsibilities :
· Provide full review of current financial controls, identify and implement a new financial I.T./software system suited to service needs.
· Oversee the procurement, implementation and transition to the new financial I.T./software system once it is identified.
· The post holder will assist with the strategic planning and budget preparation for the organisation as well as maintaining the charity's financial accounting systems.
· To provide support to the Finance Manager by overseeing the preparation of the organisation’s accounts for audit in accordance with current accounting good practice and Charity Commission’s Standards of Recommended Practice (SORP)
· Lead, develop and support a small dedicated finance and administration team
· Long term financial planning and assisting the CEO with succession planning in the finance area of the service, including creation of a financial risk register.
· Assist in setting the annual budget and report on performance.
· Oversee timely production by the Finance manager of monthly management accounts and the annual statutory accounts.
· Ensure a robust financial control environment and ensure all treasury and Financial Governance management are in place, suitable and effective.

The Head of Finance will lead on budgeting, financial management and reporting and work closely with the Chief Executive to provide effective financial direction to the Treasurer and the Board of Trustees.
You will provide financial leadership overseeing all aspects of the organisation’s finances and in ensuring that it complies with relevant legislation and principles. JOB SUMMARY
The Head of Finance will be active in preparing monthly management accounts and commentary for the Senior Management Team.
The Head of Finance will be responsible for the ongoing development of the financial systems, processes and procedures, monthly accounts, cash flow, as well as budgeting and forecasting.
BUDGETING & REPORTING
- Preparation of annual income and expenditure budgets for the Charity, working collaboratively with Heads of Department and members of SMT.
- Review and collate all Head office service costs and professional fees and calculate cross company charging for financial reporting.
- Provision of income and expenditure reports, variance analysis and reconciliation of fundraising activities.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including balance sheet, metrics, and commentary.

- Formulate monthly rolling forecast cashflow for the Charity and Trading Company including phased income budget and planned expenditure.
FINANCIAL SYSTEMS CONTROL
- Ensure the organisation operates robust accounting procedures and systems of internal financial control in line with current good practice and legislation.
- Oversee and facilitate the annual external audit but effective liaison with the auditors and preparation of accounts ready for inspection.

We’re looking for a qualified accountant to join our team and provide operational leadership for the Charity’s Finance function, supporting the Director of Finance & Governance and providing line management for our friendly finance team.
You will be responsible for ensuring The Charity complies with statutory requirements, operates effective controls, provides meaningful insight on financial matters and adapts processes to suit our growing Charity.
You will take a lead on statutory compliance such as audit, tax and Charity Commission submissions. You will work with the Finance Manager to ensure the integrity of finance records and systems, the accurate and timely production of monthly management accounts, making of payments to Team Members and suppliers and ad hoc reporting.
You will take a leading role in budget preparations and forecasting.
Who we’re looking for:
A qualified accountant with at least five years’ experience in a similar role from any sector. You will have experience of and be comfortable with filing VAT returns, preparing statutory accounts, dealing with auditors, and managing a small team.

Key accountabilities:
· Preparation of statutory accounts and filing of statutory returns
· Compliance with Gift Aid, VAT, payroll and corporate tax regulations
· Ensure all Charity financial controls, systems and processes are effectively implemented and developed
· Perform Balance Sheet reviews to confirm balances are correct
· Accurate recording, reporting and use of restricted funds
· Review and commentary on finances and significant variances for Finance Committees
· Cash flow planning and management
· Banking compliance e.g. updating mandates

Person Specification

Key Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Implementation
- Leading the organisation through the iterative development and implementation of strategic projects to serve the ambition of Resurgo, to “inspire and equip organisations to deliver ambitious and sustainable social change”
- Provide direction and support to Heads of Department, setting them up to succeed in the implementation of ambitious plans
- Line management of the Strategy Managaer, who project manages and drives the delivery of annual departmental targets and strategic projects across the organisation.
Finance
- Line management of Head of Finance, providing strategic leadership in the development of the finance function and oversight of organisational financial management
- Lead the annual planning process, working with the Head of Finance and Director of People, Culture & Operations to shape and deliver annual financial planning
Oversight of Governance, Risk and Opportunity
- Executive Chair of the Strategy, Finance and Risk steering group, owning the most significant risks and opportunities facing Resurgo at an organisational level, ensuring actions are taken to mitigate risks and that we are set up to maximise opportunity
- Responsible for overseeing governance structures and ensuring they are fit for purpose as the organisation develops and grows
- Supporting the Executive Assistant to the CEO in the facilitation of the effective running of the Boards of Resurgo Trust and Resurgo Consulting, including planning and overseeing Board and key Steering Group meetings.
Active Participation in and Support for Resurgo’s team and mission
