Literacy Tutor

-To work with people who have a learning disability

The Creighton Centre is a local charity with a long history of working in Hammersmith & Fulham, caring for older, vulnerable and disabled people. We tackle problems caused by social isolation and disadvantage by developing and providing programmes that offer people practical solutions and emotional support.

The Learning Disability Outreach (LDO) project needs a Literacy Tutor to teach people with learning disabilities, helping them to improve their reading and writing skills, to enhance their lives and achieve their aspirations. The teaching will be mostly in a 1-to-1 capacity, or with small groups. You will need some experience of teaching literacy skills and a compassionate attitude.

An interest in gardening and educating people in a small community garden would be a bonus, although not essential.

We're looking for someone to lead and develop our research team of staff and freelance research associates and be part of our Senior Leadership Team. We work with charities, foundations and public agencies to strengthen UK communities through action research. We champion the role and contribution of the voluntary sector, listen and learn with charities to understand what helps or hinders them and influence changes in practice within foundations and public agencies.

You'll have an interest in our work – helping individuals and organisations in the voluntary sector to achieve change; and a strong understanding and experience of using qualitative research methodology, ideally including experience of action research, facilitation and evaluation design alongside an understanding of quantitative methods. You’ll have experience of  leading, managing and contributing to all stages of the research process (including writing in an accessible and engaging manner for different audiences); be confident in leading a portfolio of varied projects; have experience of line management and working in a senior leadership team; and be comfortable working in a small organisation with wide-ranging responsibilities.

Main responsibilities include:

• Overseeing and shaping the research project portfolio to ensure quality delivery and alignment with IVAR’s strategic priorities.
• Leading, supervising and guiding the research team, including supporting Project Managers to deliver high quality research; monthly research team meetings; and continuous professional development of research staff.
• Being a member of project delivery teams.
• Monitoring project budgets and progress against income targets.
• Ensuring IVAR meets its responsibilities in terms of research ethics and safeguarding and that our research practice is equitable and inclusive.
• Maintaining and developing a network that supports a healthy project pipeline of new work, including relationships with delivery partners who can complement and enhance IVAR’s offer.
• Leading project design and proposals for commissioned work.
• Leading the identification, assessment and response to tender opportunities.
• Being part of the Senior Leadership Team, which includes ensuring an integrated approach to research and communications and the quality of all written outputs; participating in IVAR meetings and events (including quarterly Board meetings); planning and delivering monthly team days; contributing to the development of internal systems/processes; developing organisational culture; developing and promoting IVAR’s public profile and influence.

As a Telephone Fundraiser, you will represent a range of charities and non-profits over the phone. You will also be resilient, able to handle objection, empathic and have the ability to perform to a target based working environment.

The Regional Road Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing IAM RoadSmart's operational service in Scotland, NI, and the North of England. This includes managing the field service north team. They ensure that all IAM RoadSmart standards and qualifications are followed and regularly checked for quality.

Additionally, they handle the recruitment and ongoing training of IAM RoadSmart volunteers to support the organisation's business model. They also work on growing IAM’s diverse membership as part of the 3-year strategy. The ideal candidate should possess a Police Class 1 Driving and Riding qualification or an equivalent IAM Masters certification, accompanied by IMI National Observer qualifications and IMI Examiner qualifications, where applicable. They must demonstrate a deep understanding of driving and riding techniques. The right candidate for the role will have great interpersonal skills, experience of delivering strategy and managing change. Age UK are recruiting for a Senior Influencing Project Manager on a fixed term 12 month contract.

We will be developing a number of research, policy and practice development projects in support of our new strategy. These include the 'extremely vulnerable people' project and a new partnership researching older people's experiences pre and post an urgent episode of care or emergency hospital admission.

This exciting opportunity will also take on responsibility for managing our response to the Pandemic Inquiry and relationship with the Health and Wellbeing Alliance. This is initially a 12-month role, with the possibility of extending to 24 months depending on project funding.

The successful Senior Strategic Influencing Manager will take the lead in designing and delivering these complex projects, including management of external partners, consultants or agencies and internal teams as required. The role will work closely with the Policy Lead, Clinical Lead and Head of Health Influencing to coordinate and drive delivery of the organisation's goals and strategic priorities across health and care.

This hybrid role, known as a Senior Strategic Project Manager within the charity, offers flexible working between home and a central London co-working hub. Occasional travel may also be required to attend meetings, workshops etc.

Being a confident communicator with a “can-do” approach is essential as well as being able to demonstrate proven administrative skills, the ability to manage a varied workload and be highly organised.

We offer flexible working patterns, both in terms of hours and remote working. Please note that all employees are contractually required to work from the office a minimum of 4 days a month.
