We have a great opportunity for someone with the necessary qualifications and attributes to join our accounts team. Serving as the Team Leader the successful candidate will work alongside the existing team and report to the Executive Director.  The post requires the right candidate to have good knowledge and a proven track record of working in business accounting.  Previous work in the charity sector would be desirable but not essential.

The Access Foundation is focused on making a real difference to people’s lives by awarding grants to charities which make a valuable and measurable positive impact.  Our grant giving objectives fall into three categories: 

1. to mitigate the digital divide by making computing facilities, support and learning available to disadvantaged and vulnerable people

1. to advance the charitable causes of the registered charities which are chosen as the "Access Group Company Charities of the Year"

1. to advance the charitable causes of charities for whom there is a strong emotional connection with a member of staff (e.g. through support they or a close relative have received from the charity) 

The Foundation aims to achieve this via a fund from which it awards grants to other charitable organisations aligned with the principles above. You are a key member or the team that works towards our target to award grants to a total value of +/- £2 million each year.

The Access Foundation was set up in 2021 following the success and growth enjoyed by The Access Group over the previous decade. While affiliated with The Access Group in terms of its identity, The Access Foundation is a separate organisation, governed by an independent board of trustees and with its own objectives and goals. 

The Access Foundation wants to fund projects and activities that make a real difference to people’s lives in the countries the Access group is active.To achieve our objectives, we are looking to appoint an experienced Operations Manager to help run and improve our operational processes.

Job objectives 

• Support the trustees in the due diligence and evaluation of each applicant and facilitate the decision-making process for each application 

• Support the ongoing evaluation process of all successful applicants and ensure agreed measures and outcomes are reported back to the Foundation in a timely manner 

• Manage the external communication of the Foundation’s successes back to stakeholders and supporters, as well as other channels on social media, such as Instagram and LinkedIn 

• Manage the communication with the Access Group and maintain an open channel of communication with the charities team at the Access group 

• Manage the Admin and Grants Assistant and ensure all Admin processes as well as operational processes are running smoothly and make changes where required 

• Manage the use of the accounting package Access Financials to ensure processes are followed and grantees paid on time.

• Oversee the data collation for and write the impact report 

• Collaborate and work with the trustees and volunteers 

Duties and responsibilities will include 

• Write regular reports to the trustees of new applications, applications in progress and outcomes, inform and advise the trustees to achieve a swift decision on all cases 

• Organise the publicity and communications around each successful grant, including newsfeeds, social media and website updates. 

• Liase with the Access Marketing team to support their own comms 

• Ensure financial accounts are accurate and complete 

• Liase with 3rd parties such as external suppliers and partners ranging from auditors to our financial partners 

• Draft Offer letters for the successful applicants 

• Recruit, Manage and Appraise the Admin and Grant Assistant

• Attend trustees, volunteers and applications meetings 

• Manage the access controls for volunteers and staff 

• Oversee the financial accounts, approve invoices on our bespoke Finance system and deal with some financial accounting together with our Chair of the board of trustees 

Skills and Experience Required 

• Organised, efficient and reliable with the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneous 

• A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role 

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels from junior to CEO 

• Computer literate with good knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook. 

• The ability to be an ambassador for the Foundation to all external parties and stakeholders 

• Strong verbal and written communication skills 

• Ability to travel to London as required (minimum once every 6 weeks) 

• Sympathy for grassroot charities 

• Experience of the charity sector 

We are currently working with a London based Council to recruit an interim accountant for an initial period of 6 months. You will be supporting year end and the closing of accounts as well as working on some of the transformation that will be taking place

The successful candidate will be fully qualified, with great technical experience in a local authority setting, especially around the closing of accounts and year end. Experience is transformation/ change management work in a local authority setting is also required.

This role offers hybrid working with time in office to be once a week.

This is an exciting 2 day a week role to be part of the growing Newham District Foodbank and Ascension’s Advice Service. On 9th June 2021 Ascension’s foodbank officially became part of the Trussell Trust network. We were named Newham District Foodbank, because our plan is to expand to more than one distribution centre to ensure that people across the whole of Newham are well supported. The role:

The purpose of this role is to ensure effective, efficient and accurate day-to-day financial management and financial controls for the Fidelity UK and international Foundations, including leading on management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow planning and delivering the annual reports and accounts for all four Foundations. The St Pancras Community Association (SPCA) is a charity delivering high quality services for Camden residents, especially the lively and diverse community of the St Pancras and Somers Town ward. Westway Trust is seeking a qualified accountant to join as our Head of Finance who will lead on all aspects of the finance function to achieve the Trusts goals.  You will also manage a small team and will offer strategic finance support across the range of activities undertaken by the organisation.

You will have significant experience operating at a senior level within a complex organisation and registered charity, and will possess the right blend and balance of strategic, communication, innovation and people skills.

Key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:

• Lead, manage and improve the Trust’s finance function and provide accurate, timely and relevant financial reports as required by the CEO, Executive Team and the Trust Board.
• Be the Executive Lead of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee, ensuring timely papers to the CEO and to the Committee and Board as required and liaising with the Head of Governance and HR as required.
• Ensure the provision and reporting of financial accounts, forecasting and large-scale project/programme budgets, estate development plans, and the associated reporting.
• Oversight of the legal and financial statutory processes in line with the Charity Commission and Companies House requirements, including the Annual Audit. Allocating tasks for timely responses and keeping all colleagues abreast of progress.
• Monitor, cash flow, reserves, analysis of performance against the organisation’s annual business plan and dashboard as it relates to the finance function.
• Contribute to the overall leadership of the Trust and to the Trust’s future strategic and operational planning. Support Executive Team colleagues as required on the delivery of cross-team initiatives.
• Line management of the Senior Finance Manager, the Debt Recovery Consultant and the Development Partnerships Lead.

Essential Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• Significant and successful experience of operating as a Head of Finance, ideally in a charity setting.
• A track record of working collaboratively with a team to develop successful internal partnerships and achieve joint success against shared objectives.
• Experience of the finance function and all the associated processes, with strong attention to detail.
• Experience of implementing enhanced reporting tools within financial software, including the ability to coach others.
• Practical knowledge of VAT, including accounting of partial exemption relevant to charities.
• Experience of managing staff and supporting their development.
• Strong interpersonal skills for both workplace and external representation contexts, operating with enthusiasm, flexibility, energy and commitment and demonstrating credibility and gravitas.

We are a faith-based charity, creating safe homes and communities for over 100 homeless men & women across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire

Main purpose of job: To lead and develop CARA, taking overall responsibility for the operational and financial management, generating income, working closely with the board of trustees to achieve CARA’s strategic and budgetary aims, whilst ensuring compliance with statutory, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000

Hours: Your hours of work are as required to perform the duties of your role, for a full-time employee this is normally 35 hours per week.

Place of work: At least two days a week in the Colchester office, with some home working, regular travel across Essex and occasional travel in the East Region.

Holiday: 25 days per year pro-rata, plus additional closure days between Christmas and New Year.

Job Description

The post of Chief Executive Officer offers an exciting opportunity to steer CARA through the next stage of its development, providing leadership to the talented and committed CARA team. The role will involve building on the considerable growth and development that CARA has achieved over the last 10 years, securing funding to ensure it can continue to provide excellent specialist services to survivors of sexual violence and take steps towards CARA's vision of a world without sexual violence and child sexual abuse.

CARA’s CEO is responsible for leading and developing CARA, taking overall responsibility for the operational and financial management, generating income, working closely with the board of trustees to achieve CARA’s strategic and budgetary aims, whilst ensuring compliance with statutory, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

The main responsibilities of the CEO are:

Strategic leadership

·Work with the Board of Trustees and the Head of Operations, and consult with staff, survivors, and others, to develop and define a clear, strong vision and direction for the future of the organisation.

·Lead on and be responsible for the creation, ongoing development and implementation of the organisation’s strategic, business and annual plans.

·Foster, model and promote an inclusive, feminist, anti-racist organisational culture that reflects CARA’s ethos and values.

·Be accountable to the Board of Trustees for the overall financial health of the organisation.

Good governance

·Report and present to the Board of Trustees on the organisation’s progress against its budgets, plans, any risks, challenges and changes, and all information relevant and necessary to the effective discharge of the Board’s duties, including strategic decision-making.

·Develop and share proposals with the Board for the implementation of its objectives and the ongoing development of the organisation.

·Support the Board of Trustees in its ongoing process of self-assessment, development and improving its diversity and representation.

·Ensure the charity meets its constitutional, regulatory and legal obligations.

Business development

·Develop and implement an income generation strategy that ensures the organisation’s sustainability and enables its sustainable growth.

·Work in partnership with the Head of Operations to develop and implement the organisational structures needed for effective delivery of CARA’s objectives and sustainable growth.

·Generate new and various funding and income opportunities through networking, developing partnerships.

• To research and identify new funding and commissioning opportunities and complete bids and applications on an ongoing basis.

·Increase the unrestricted income of the charity, including developing, proposing and implementing new and innovative approaches to its income generation activities, including working closely with the CEO of Icena.

·Be responsible for maintaining and developing strong, long-term relationships with a diverse range funders and donors, both existing and new.

Representation

• To act as lead representative for CARA in the Synergy Essex Rape Crisis Partnership, developing strong working relationships with the other partners and negotiating CARA’s role, responsibilities and the financial allocations it receives from the partnership. 
• To keep up-to-date with current developments affecting victims and survivors of sexual violence and ensure that CARA responds appropriately to these developments.
• To be the chief spokeswoman for CARA, responding to media and other enquiries as appropriate and playing a pro-active role in bringing relevant issues to the attention of the public, issuing press releases and initiating debate, as appropriate.
• Build, support and oversee strong relationships with individuals and organisations across the voluntary, public and private sectors, and in local and national government.
• To contribute to Rape Crisis England and Wales campaigns and other campaigns, as appropriate.
• To remain informed of national and regional Rape Crisis perspectives, drawing on Rape Crisis England and Wales expertise and resources as appropriate.

Organisational management

·Ensure policies and processes that support good communication, staff health and well-being, and safe and effective delivery of work are in place and adhered to throughout the organisation.

·Take overall responsibility for the staff team, its management and performance.

·Capture the organisation’s work through robust monitoring and evaluation, and ensure CARA’s impact and any learning is shared throughout the team and with the Board, survivors, funders and other partners as appropriate.

·Oversee and ensure robust financial management processes for the charity.

Other

·To oversee safeguarding at CARA, working with the Designated Safeguarding Leads to ensure effective policies and procedures are in place and communicated to staff, trustees, sessional counsellors and volunteers, and that CARA follows best safeguarding practice.

·To adhere to all CARA’s organisational policies and procedures.

·To be administratively self-servicing, and to share responsibility for a range of day-to-day tasks with the Head of Operations and other team members.

·To undertake other related activities as required by Board of Trustees.

CARA (Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse) works with victims and survivors of sexual violence and child sexual abuse, providing independent, specialist support and promoting and representing their rights and needs.

About Synergy Essex

CARA is part of Synergy Essex – the Essex Rape and Sexual Abuse Partnership. We work with SERICC Rape and Sexual Abuse Specialist Service and Southend-on-Sea Rape Crisis (SOS Rape Crisis) to deliver the contract for the Office for the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) for Essex for services for victims and survivors of sexual violence and child sexual abuse across Essex, Southend and Thurrock. Synergy Essex also shares a number of other projects, funded by the Ministry of Justice, Essex County Council and the National Lottery Community Fund.

Our current PFCC contract ends in March 2025.  Synergy Essex intends to submit a bid for the new contract, which is expected to be put out to tender in the summer of 2024.

About Icena

CARA is a founding stakeholder of Icena - a social enterprise offering training and consultancy to eradicate sexual discrimination and violence.  The creation of Icena forms part of CARA’s sustainability strategy:  Once Icena is generating sufficient profit, a share of this profit will be used to support CARA’s work.

The purpose of this role is to provide administrative support for Global Black Thrive involvement in the Culture of Care Programme liaising with the Lived Experience Advisors, the Race Equity Lead, Neurodiverse Connections, the Royal College of Psychiatrists and NHS England. 

This will include HR, Operations and Admin functions relating to the Culture of Care (CoC) Programme and will include managing systems to efficiently run the business and achieve strategic objectives agreed by Black Thrive Board of Directors. 

The role will be the first point of contact for our CoC team, organising travel and accommodation, managing HR and office queries. 

You may be involved in managing onboarding and offboarding, preparing employment contracts (Full-time and/or part-time, zero hours and/or fixed terms contracts), checking and following right-to-work in the UK, and administrating DBS checks. 

You will be working with the HR and Admin Manager in Global Black Thrive and may be required to assist in wider team activities where required.
