Job description

 

Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT) is an East London charity providing practical help, support and training to people who have been homeless and suffering from addiction. We run a Housing First project, a Recovery Hub (which includes an abstinence-based residential recovery accommodation, a Therapeutic Recovery Programme and Continuing Care), supported housing and two social enterprises supporting people in recovery from addictions to put their lives back together. Our integrative approach is based on the ‘Recovery Capital’ methodology and is a whole-person approach, which takes into account physical, cultural, social, human and spiritual factors and assets, all supported by our Charity Shops, Fundraising and Operations teams.

Role and Responsibilities:

Management:

  • To manage the day-to-day running of the coffee-shop and line manage the team of 2 paid staff and several volunteers.
  • To manage and motivate the team (including: hiring, performance management, training and recognition duties)
  • To serve as the lead customer service contact at the shop, demonstrating best practice.
  • To maintain effective stock management and manage donors in accordance to SCT’s policies
  • To induct and train new employees, and provide on-going training for all staff, ensuring that team building is effective (staff will include service user trainees and volunteers)
  • To attend departmental meetings and act as a liaison between the shop and other SCT Departments, communicating relevant information to the staff as and when necessary
  • To ensure all accidents and faulty equipment are reported, recorded and dealt with accordingly
  • To be responsible for all stock offers, display and pricing, ensuring that new ideas from staff are considered
  • To ensure all comments and complaints are dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner
  • To work with those in recovery from addiction on voluntary placements in SCT x Paper & Cup as part of a training programme. To coordinate this programme alongside the Progression Worker.
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful retail processes and merchandising standards to industry standards of best practice

Financial:

  • To monitor and analyse the shop budget
  • To manage the end of day banking and all financial functions for the shop
  • To work with SCT finance team to provide regular information as requested

 

Policy and Health and Safety:

  • To manage and implement shop policies and procedures
  • To ensure staff and volunteers are following correct safety guidelines and are able to relate to current policies.
  • To maintain all legal health, hygiene and safety records
  • To ensure high standards of personal hygiene and appearance are maintained

 

Administration:

  • To coordinate the SCT x Paper and Cup schedule, preparing rotas and ensuring all shifts are staffed appropriately
  • To order supplies for the café and keep stock of deliveries, managing vendors and maintaining inventory
  • To ensure that administration is maintained to the highest standards
  • To act as key liaison for events such as art events and filming requests, making sure the store is able to cope with demands including staffing and various resourcing needs
  • To be the point of contact for donations to the shop, to ensure communication of needs between shops and support staff and to arrange collections and deliveries when needed.

 

Traineeships

  • To work closely with the Progression worker to have a trainees volunteering.
  • To conduct interviews/reviews/exit interviews for volunteer trainees alongside Progression worker
  • To teach trainees in all aspects of running the coffee shop, ensuring training on coffee making, tills and general practice.
  • To attend regular meetings with the Progression worker, providing clear, appropriate communication about all trainees
  • To be responsible for ensuring that appropriate, professional boundaries are kept between SCT x Paper & Cup staff and volunteer trainees, flagging any issues with the Progression worker
  • To ensure all new staff complete addictions training, with the help of the Services delivery team.
  • To ensure that all trainees have a rounded and well managed experience of working in the shop
  • To complete references for all volunteer trainees on completing their experience of SCT x Paper & Cup
  • To ensure all paperwork is handed over – risk assessment, assessment forms, placement review documents - from the Progression worker, and relaying any relevant information about a new/existing trainee to the rest of the team, where needed and appropriate to do so
  • To keep all information given on trainees confidential, sharing only on a need-to-know basis and in a confidential setting

Skills and Knowledge

  • Barista trained · Understanding of food and beverage operations. · Knowledge of Health & Safety policies and procedures.(Essential).

Experience

  • Experience of working in café’s / retail or charity retail. (Essential).

  • Understanding of working with people from disadvantaged backgrounds  (Desirable).
  • Experience of recruiting and managing volunteers (Desirable).
