We are seeking a highly organised Children and Young Person’s Specialist Exploitation Caseworker to work alongside Somerset Council’s Exploitation Service.
They will combine their lived experience of overcoming similar barriers to the client group and their professional experience to provide crucial guidance, support, and mentorship to children and young people who are being, or at high risk of being exploited.
Through 1:1 mentoring, you will ensure children and young people are equipped to think critically, assess risk, and make better life choices. You will also support them to overcome personal challenges and achieve personal goals. The resulting mindset shift and confidence makes them more resilient to the risks of becoming involved with substance misuse and/or supply; gangs; exploitation and violence.
We positively encourage applications if you have had personal adverse experiences that make you an ‘expert by experience’. This could include experience of the criminal justice system, having served a prison sentence, experience of gang involvement, county lines and criminal exploitation. You will need to demonstrate how your lived experience supports your ability to carry out the role to the benefit of the clients we work with.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Delivery specialist Exploitation 1 to 1 casework and mentoring to identified at risk young people and their families.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with children and young people to provide emotional support, guidance, and mentorship.
• Address individual needs and challenges, utilising personal experiences, local knowledge, professional skills and St Giles casework and mentoring materials to offer support and intervention.
• Assist children and young people in setting and achieving personal life goals.
• Collaborate with professionals to support and develop strategies to minimise the risk to young people.
• Maintain a trauma informed approach, that recognises and responds to trauma and amplifies the voices and experiences of children and young people.
• Develop positive, pro-social attitudes, behaviour and social skills with children and young people.
• Safeguard, protect and promote the welfare of children and young people.
• Provide guidance on resolving interpersonal issues.
• Maintain open and effective communication with mentees, professionals, parents/carers and partners.

The Pelham is a local Christian charity that enriches lives in real and diverse ways for our community in Sidley, Bexhill. The Pelham aims to benefit the community through our charitable activities & projects, and effective partnership working.

Following the opening of the basement in September 2023, The Pelham has a designated space for children and young people to call their own. In our current work as a Community Hub, we have over 60 partner organisations and over 400 people a week coming through the doors, and our vision is to see the range of activities and partners be replicated for local youth.
As well as leading the youth work, this postholder will join part of The Pelham’s project leadership team alongside the other four core projects:
· Our volunteer-run Coffee Lounge is open 5 days a week, providing a safe and warm space in the community to over 150 customers each week.
· The Pelham as a Community Hub welcomes over 400 people through our doors each week and hire our spaces out to over 60 different local organisations that use The Pelham as a base for their valuable assistance to help people in need locally. The range of organisations covers the voluntary, statutory and small business community to create a vibrant and dynamic space.
· RunningSpace is our suicide prevention project with a vision to champion life and beat suicide through walk2run groups. We currently run sessions in five locations, across East Sussex and Kent. We also host suicide prevention training too on a regular basis.
· The Pelham Counselling Service offers individual and group work therapy sessions with its team of 9 counsellors. It offers bursaries and a flexible service to best meet the needs of local people.
In joining the team, collaborative working will be at the heart of the development of the youth work, including group therapy sessions for young people, suicide prevention work and volunteering and employability pathways.

Main Purpose of the Role:
The Youth Worker will take the leadership role in the development of Youth work from The Pelham, as part of its charitable work and community service, working under the guidance of the CEO and as part of the Project Leadership team.
The role will include having vision to develop relevant and appealing opportunities in Bexhill for young people, working together with local partners, including schools and voluntary organisations. This will include innovative options outside of our current scope of work, which may include wellbeing activities, studying support, home education, group work therapy and more.
There will also be administrative responsibilities specific to this role, including safeguarding and risk assessing all activities and events as well as the young people that you will be working with.
The role will also involve hosting a range of regular session specifically for young people, as well as empowering and encouraging young people, in line with the vision and values of The Pelham as a charity.
Key Tasks:
1. To create a safe environment for young people to be at The Pelham, including all necessary safeguarding requirements and good practice.
2. To run youth activities at The Pelham on a weekly basis in term time, including but not limited to:

3. Daytime sessions for home educated or de-schooled students

3. To provide consistent and appropriate input into the lives of local young people living in our community, giving them purpose, value and significance.
4. To develop partnerships specifically focused on the usage of the basement during the daytime. This is focused around exploring connections with home educated students, and those outside of mainstream education.
5. To establish key links with existing youth provision in the town, alongside the schools, voluntary groups and faith groups.
6. To work alongside The Pelham Counselling Service to promote and support the wellbeing of young people, including through the use of group workshops.
7. To support a volunteer team to support in hosting youth activities, all with the appropriate DBS checks and training.
8. To work alongside the pastoral care team at Bexhill Academy to provide support to students during lunchtime(s) in the school week.
9. To explore and respond to the local need for young people, including helping to mitigate anti-social behaviour in Sidley with increased interaction and trust building. This will include working with local partners including Heart of Sidley, Rother Safety Partnership and Sussex Police.
10. This will also extend into local connections in Sidley, Pebsham, Chantry and Bexhill Town Centre in providing opportunities for children and young people and their families, as well as other youth focused organisations.

NGAGE is an early intervention drug and alcohol service for young people aged 10-18 and we provide information, education, advice and support to young people in relation to drug and alcohol use.
Your challenge? To provide advice, assessments, brief and structured interventions and group programmes. As a Practitioner, you will be the initial contact for referrals into the service, conducting assessments via telephone, face to face and offering relevant and appropriate advice, harm minimisation, family interventions risk assessment and management, actioning onward referrals to partner agencies. ‘Flourish’ is a highly flexible and responsive outreach service developed to meet the needs of refugees and asylum seekers in Hertfordshire. The aim of the service will be to support refugees and asylum seekers in the community with multiple needs who have mental health support as a primary need.
Purpose of Post
- To provide advice, information, onward referral and holistic support to clients with mental ill health.
- Support to build social networks and reduce isolation whilst settling into the Hertfordshire community this includes building a sustainable and empowering peer support network and building confidence and self-esteem.
- To ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly.
- To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
- Embed a person centred and solution focused approach in all aspects of the role.

The Role
The project funded by the Elwyn Thomas Memorial Fund will deliver an Emotional Support Service as well as through collaborative community working, will result in valuable assets for the community. Reporting to the Emotional Support Service Manager, the team will deliver a professional counselling service to stroke survivors, carers and relatives. Counselling sessions are designed to help clients to develop emotional resilience, readjust to life after stroke and prepare to reintegrate into community life.

· Providing one to one counselling to stroke survivors, carers and relatives including those with communication or cognitive difficulties
· Providing counselling sessions in person, on-line or by telephone, throughout Cornwall
· Assessing the appropriateness of counselling for service users by providing emotional needs assessment sessions as well as using appropriate screening/evaluation tools (e.g. PHQ and GAD)
· Managing risk and safeguarding issues in accordance with appropriate legal, ethical and organisational requirements.

· An advanced diploma in integrative, humanistic or person-centred counselling/psychotherapy; for example, BACP recognised course or equivalent (i.e. 450 hours skills and theory, 100 hours of supervised practice, 20 hours of personal therapy)

· BACP registration (or equivalent) and actively working towards accreditation

Are you a highly organised, collaborative and compassionate individual with direct or indirect experience of the criminal justice system? Do you have a proven record of supporting young people involved in, or at risk of, entry into the Criminal Justice System?
If so, join St Giles as our Mentor/Facilitator, where you will combine your lived experience of overcoming similar barriers to the client group and your professional experience to provide crucial guidance, support and mentorship to targeted at-risk young people, already within or at high risk of entering the criminal justice system.

About this exciting opportunity
As Mentor/Facilitator, your focus will be to oversee the delivery of a vital Mentor Programme to targeted at risk students and young people up the age of 25 years and to establish and maintain positive relationships with each young person to provide emotional support, guidance and mentorship. You will be expected to address each individual’s needs and challenges, utilising personal experiences, local knowledge, professional skills and St Giles’ materials to offer support and intervention, while also assisting each young person with setting and achieving academic, personal, and career goals.
We will count on you to collaborate with professionals to support and develop strategies to minimise the risk to young people and to maintain a trauma informed approach, that recognises and responds to trauma and amplifies the voices and experiences of individuals. Developing positive, pro-social attitudes, behaviour and social skills among those you mentor and supporting and/or co-delivering whole school awareness and professional sessions are also key aspects of the role.
What we are looking for
- Sound knowledge of the challenges and issues facing vulnerable young people
- An understanding and demonstration of professional standards and accountability
- Experience of working collaboratively with multi-agency partners
- Excellent record keeping and good technical literacy of Microsoft Applications
- A commitment to excellent safeguarding practice
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, verbal and written
- A flexible, collaborative and professional approach to your work
- Full Driving Licence and your own transport.
