We are looking for an Interim External Affairs Manager to help lead our communications activities from 24 June 2024 to 31 December, while our permanent External Affairs Manager is on sabbatical. This is a particularly exciting time to join the team, as we seek to maximise our impact ahead of the next general election and develop our strategy for the next few years.
The successful candidate will help to manage the day to day work of the External Affairs team, including supporting colleagues to enhance our reach on social media and digital channels, deliver our events programme and deepen our impact with key audiences.

This is a diverse role and will include:
Communications and events

Working with Head of External Affairs and Income (EA&I) to manage the External Affairs’ team’s day-to-day work, including supporting the team with social media, website and press relations

Working with Head of EA&I to deliver communications strategy

Overseeing and project managing the charity’s events programme
Leadership and management

Leading External Affairs team catch ups and project planning

Line managing an External Affairs Officer and an Intern with a focus on professional development

Providing sign-off on a number of areas, including those that carry some risk to the charity

Working with the Head of EA&I to collect key management information to report on the impact and reach of external affairs activities to the CEO

Assisting with the charity’s other activities as required.

Job Purpose - Project Delivery Manager
Responsible for the overall management of a defined project(s); establishing the membership of a cross functional project team; ensuring that the work is done within agreed time, cost, and quality tolerances; ensuring execution; ensuring post project evaluation.

Key Result Areas
- Deliver the definition, planning, development, and operational implementation of a new system(s) across the organisation.
- Developing the Project Initiation Document for Sponsor sign off that ensures effective estimation of cost, timescales, and resource requirements, including a detailed Quality Plan.
- Active management of project progress, scope, budget, risks, issues, resources, dependencies, stakeholders, vendors, and requirements throughout the project lifecycle, escalating to the Project Sponsor, as appropriate.
- Ensuring that Delivery Partners produce robust and realistic detailed project plans which enable critical path analysis, ensuring action is taken where these deviate from agreed tolerances.
- Manage supplier relationships – Using strong negotiation and influencing skills, you will ensure that suppliers / vendors keep to project delivery plans, that SLAs / KPIs are met, and that performance / delivery remains at a high standard. You will lead in the resolution of any blockages / challenges.
- Assuring and overseeing the effective management of all project workstreams to agreed quality criteria throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assuring and overseeing the development and execution of a stakeholder engagement plan to manage relationships, ensuring buy-in, timely involvement and commitment of key stakeholders.
- Put in place governance and control structures for the design, implementation and management of business process, infrastructure, data/data quality design.
- Ensure that robust frameworks are in place for User Acceptance Testing by systems users, project members and maintain oversight/approve resolution plans and changes.

Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent Knowledge of project management methodologies – Prince 2, Agile.
- Excellent knowledge of business process re-engineering methodologies, approaches and tools.
- Highly organised; ability to work with minimal. supervision to tight deadlines and manage others within a project environment.
- Excellent leadership skills, knowing how to take charge.
- An effective communicator with the ability to adjust style depending upon the audience.
- Effective negotiation skills; experience of working with multiple stakeholders at all levels.
- High level of commercial awareness with the ability to confidently manage a substantial budget.
- Ability to solve problems quickly.
- Proficient in a range of project management software tools including MS project, Excel and PowerPoint

- Proven ability to deliver large scale implementations on time and to budget.
- Experience of managing cross functional teams.
- Experience of working with external suppliers.
Qualifications & Training:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Project Management qualification e.g. Prince2/Agile

- Must be a driver with own method of transport and a clean, valid driving licence, willing to travel to other sites, when required.

This will be a major opportunity for the organisation to completely reengineer our front-end processes, enabling our support staff to capture data at the point of activity and eliminating paper. Also provide robust management information to effectively monitor the quality and compliance of the services we provide to the people we support. This will assist us in our ambition to be the sector leader in quality, value and personal outcomes.

Reporting to the COO, you will be responsible for managing the financial year-end and external audit process for the charity, including the production of the financial statements (whilst supervising and with the support of the finance officer) and liaising with the auditors. As the Individual Giving Manager - Supporter Retention & Development, you will play a pivotal role in the Individual Giving team. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of multi-channel (online and offline) activity and campaigns for Supporter Retention & Development including conversion, upgrade, reactivation, cross-selling, cash appeals & in memory income. You will lead on building the Supporter Retention & Development programme, focusing on growing income, the supporter base and improved engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Proven experience of Individual Giving / Direct Marketing within a multi-channel, multi-discipline environment to deliver significant returns and supporter satisfaction, especially through supporter retention & development programmes
- Understanding of the effective development and use of supporter contact strategies, turning analysis and insight into high performance actions
- Strong project-management experience, including managing budgets, schedules, creative development, and supplier relationships for fundraising direct marketing campaigns
- Experience of Individual Giving retention and acquisition programmes

The Head of Scotland and Northern Ireland is responsible for leading our vision to end the need for food banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Scotland currently leads the way in having a rights-based, progressive agenda to ending the need for food banks, but there is much to do to ensure political intentions become a reality. This role directs Trussell Trust’s policy and public affairs work in Scotland and Northern Ireland, leads our Scotland and Northern Ireland department as they support our network of food banks and works strategically with key partners to tackle the underlying reasons why people need to come to food banks.

Technical skills and minimum knowledge:
