About the role

The volunteer journey is all about a volunteer’s experience in Scouts - from the moment they join, through how they learn, grow, and feel supported and valued.

In this role, you’ll design, test, deliver and maintain tools and processes that support this journey, including things like joining, local governance and the overall volunteer experience.

Working closely with volunteers and staff, you’ll help us welcome more people from all backgrounds and make sure they have a positive, high-quality experience - so we can give even more young people skills for life.

What you’ll do as our Volunteer Journey Officer

  • Help shape a brilliant volunteering experience for over 140,000 volunteers
  • Work with volunteers and staff to co-create tools, resources and guidance that really make a difference
  • Lead fun and engaging sessions to hear directly from volunteers about what works (and what doesn’t!)
  • Test out new ideas, gather feedback and tweak things to make them even better
  • Support the rollout of new systems and ways of working across Scouts
  • Deliver training, workshops and presentations to help volunteers thrive
  • Be a go-to person for questions about the volunteer journey
  • Work with teams across the organisation and build great relationships along the way
  • Share what we’ve learned so we can keep improving together

Key responsibilities as our Volunteer Journey Officer

  • Plan and manage projects that improve the volunteer experience from start to finish
  • Create and develop helpful resources, learning and digital tools for volunteers
  • Listen to volunteer feedback and use it to shape improvements
  • Keep track of how things are going by collecting and looking at data and feedback
  • Make sure everything we do is high quality and aligned with Scouts’ goals
  • Adapt plans to suit different local needs while keeping a consistent approach nationally
  • Support volunteers and staff as new processes and systems are introduced
  • Work with a wide range of people, both inside and outside Scouts
  • Step in to support the team with other tasks when needed

Benefits:

  • We are an award-winning Charity of the Year (Charity Times Awards 2022) with over 400 employees across multiple locations across the country.
  • 28 days holiday and going up to 32 days after 2 years’ service plus additional days at Christmas
  • Flexible working hours
  • Work in a way that suits you, your role and your department
  • Double matching pension up to 10% of gross salary
