We are excited to recruit a Community Organiser for our Bradford Parent Power project. This role offers a meaningful, paid professional development opportunity. The Brilliant Club will work in partnership with Queens’ College, Cambridge, Dixons Academies Trust and Go Higher West Yorkshire to engage with parents in Bradford. The parental engagement model used will be based on the successful Parent Power South London and Oldham Parent Power projects.

Parent Power supports parents and carers to develop skills in community organising and advice and guidance on accessing higher education, empowering them to make change to support their children’s future and ensure their they have a fair chance in education and their future careers.
Working with us, the Community Organiser will:
- Support local pupils from underrepresented backgrounds by empowering their parent/carers to become higher education experts
- Receive community organising training from Citizens UK and develop transferable skills
- Join a nationwide community of community organisers making a significant impact on university access

Call for Expression of Interest: Consultancy for Assessment on Access to Financial Services for Young Women with Disabilities - GESP.

Project Background
In 2019, Nigeria signed into law the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018, to prioritise disability rights by stakeholders and duty-bearers. The Act also led to the establishment of the National Commission for Persons with Disability, aimed at preventing discrimination against people with disabilities and to ensure disability inclusiveness across all sectors. However, policy implementation has been a challenge due to weak law enforcement, inadequate funding, negative attitudes towards disability and a lack of data on disability.
According to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics labour force survey, there are close to five million unemployed people in Lagos and Kano States, representing 36.4% of the active labour force. Development Initiative's analysis of the 2012-13 Household Survey shows that women with disabilities are 43% more likely to be out of employment relative to women without disability. The high cost of living and level of inequality in the country contributes significantly to the adversity faced by people with disabilities, particularly women.
The Girls Educational Skills Programme (GESP) is design to address the barriers of including women with disabilities into the Nigerian Labour Force. The project seeks to build the employment readiness and confidence of young women with disabilities (ages 18-24) to secure jobs or run their own micro/small businesses. The project will also empower adolescent girls with disabilities in senior secondary schools (ages 13-18) to widen their career aspirations through skills development and mentoring.
Sightsavers is working with two organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to deliver on these objectives. These OPDs are Project Enable Africa and Kanawa Educational Foundation for the Disabled. Some private sector partners are also keying into the GESP project to ensure its success, these partners include Unilever Nigeria, Guinness Nigeria, Access Bank, and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).
Consultancy objective
- Identify institutional, physical, attitudinal and communication barriers hindering people with disabilities, particularly young women with disabilities, from accessing wide range of financial services.
- Conduct analysis of existing legal framework including the National Financial Inclusion Policy and strategy; National Sustainability Banking Principles, among others to identify gaps and means in which they could be strengthened.
- Propose short and long-term implementable solutions that could enable the project to advocate for policy reforms and influence relevant stakeholders in the financial institution sector.
- In addition, identify the relevant technical capacity needed by both the demand and supply actors in implementing the policy reforms proposed to enable the project achieve its financial inclusion objective.

For over 35 years Ethical Consumer (ECRA) has been the hub of the ethical consumer movement, helping consumers to shop ethically, campaigners to challenge corporate power and businesses to improve their supply chains. The role of the board is to help ECRA to meet its long term goals and to move its social purpose forward.
Board members meet quarterly to assess and advise on the progress that ECRA is making. Meetings normally last two hours. We also hold an annual strategy session to address issues chosen by the board. Board members may attend these meetings by zoom or in person (in Manchester) at their convenience. Travel expenses can be paid. Board members are paid £125 for each meeting attended during the year.
Board members may also be asked for opinions or for decisions by email in between meetings. Occasionally a special call to address a particular issue may be necessary too.
Members of our Board act as company directors. They are responsible for overall good governance of Ethical Consumer in accordance with the provisions of relevant legislation and guidance.

FareShare Midlands is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We take good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry and get it to our Members - frontline charities and community groups all over the Midlands. We turn an environmental problem into a social solution.
Last year we redistributed almost 5,794 tonnes of food from our warehouses in Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham. It is sorted and stored by our dedicated teams of staff and volunteers, and then redistributed to around 800 Members including food pantries and cafes, homeless shelters and drop-in centres.
These local organisations turn the food into food parcels, affordable shopping and delicious meals for people of all ages. As well as food, our Members provide vital support to families and the elderly, many of whom are facing challenging circumstances and living in poverty.
Last year our food reached more than 83,000 vulnerable people every week, providing 13 million meals. At the same time, we are growing our Employability Programmes to help people gain work experience, skills and jobs.
The Role
Undertake duties to ensure information regarding FareShare Midlands employability programmes is promoted and shared via a range of business and social media platforms. ‘As part of our mission, FareShare Midlands is delighted to be able to deliver our I-Can employability programme as part of Birmingham City Council’s PURE project. The PURE Project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The programme will provide a range of wellbeing, training and employment support to economically inactive and vulnerable residents of Birmingham in order to improve their lives and move them closer to the jobs market.’

About the role

This is a very exciting time to join the team at Tŷ Hafan. We have just launched our Big Ambition that when a child’s life will be short no family should have to live it alone.
This is a huge ambition that will need us to grow the money we raise significantly over the next 5 years. Major Giving is a crucial income stream for Tŷ Hafan and as Major Giving Fundraising Officer, you will be integral to supporting income growth.
In the role, you will support the Head of Fundraising and Director of Income Generation to develop and deliver the major giving programme and will support the management of major donors and potential major donors, making sure that they receive the best possible experience as a Tŷ Hafan supporter.
You’ll coordinate major donor plans, support the organisation of key events, prepare and deliver tailored communications and personally manage some donor relationships.
If you have experience of building relationships with and managing supporters, as well as experience of managing projects and events within agreed timescales and budgets, and have excellent communication and organisational skills, we would love to here from you.
