Job Title: Counselling Support and Development Manager

Responsible to: Head of Counselling

Location: Norwich and Great Yarmouth

Hours:                               30 Hours Per Week

What are we looking for?

Sue Lambert Trust are looking for a resilient and experienced  counsellor ready to take on the challenge of a leadership and management role within an organisation passionate about offering a kind, safe and supportive therapeutic service to survivors of sexual abuse and violence. In this role you would be responsible for the professional development of our team of counsellors as well as supporting both trainee and experienced counsellors in their work with us.  

Background Information:

Sue Lambert Trust provides kind, safe, supportive help for people who have experienced sexual or domestic abuse at some point in their lives.

We provide free, specialist support that enables people to recover, heal and build resilience to face the future. Our support is organized around a three-phased trauma informed approach.

Phase One Groundwork is designed to support clients with practical issues as well as providing stabilisation in preparation for counselling. Around 200 clients per year access this service.

Phase Two Counselling is the core provision and is delivered by 50+ trained counsellor volunteers working with around 300 clients weekly.

Phase Three aims to build resilience and includes interventions such as self-help groups.

We are funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioners Office, Ministry of Justice, National Lottery and several local and national Trusts and Foundations.

With the launch of a new strategy to guide us through to 2026 it is an opportune time to be joining an organization that is ambitious in its support for its clients.

Job Title:Counselling Support and Development Manager

Responsible to: Head of Counselling

Job purpose:

1. To ensure that all counsellors and staff are provided with the skills and knowledge to deliver and develop Sue Lambert Trust services.
2. To support the Head of Counselling to manage a team of staff and counsellors in delivering effective, safe and quality counselling and other appropriate therapeutic services.           
3. To support the Head of Counselling in the development of clinical services, and work collaboratively with the Service Support and Development Manager to implement Trauma Informed Practices (TIP)
4. To support the Head of Counselling in creating a safeguarding culture throughout the organisation.

Main responsibilities:

Operational Delivery

1. To develop and lead a needs-based plan for the learning and development of the counselling team aligned with Sue Lambert Trust strategy.

2. To organise and manage trainee counsellor placements, working in partnership with counsellor training providers to support and develop trainees in their ongoing training.

3. To act as the Senior Counselling Lead for all trainee counsellors, undertaking case management monthly

4. To work collaboratively to develop and support the implementation of consistent working practices across our sites with a focus on our Great Yarmouth office.

5. To lead on the development and training of a dedicated team of EMDR practitioners.

6. To act as one of the designated safeguarding leads within the organisation, providing support to Senior Counselling Leads and counsellors

7. To deputise for the Head of Counselling as and when required

Service Delivery

1. To provide one to one counselling and other therapeutic services as appropriate in line with the policies and requirements of the organisation

2. To ensure a skilled clinical team can deliver initial assessments, review and top-up calls, effective allocations, and any other services as directed.

3. To line manage the Senior Counselling Leads based in Great Yarmouth

4. To lead on best practice in clinical service delivery as outlined by BACP guidelines and statutory and regulatory requirements throughout the organisation.

5. To liaise where necessary and appropriate with external supervisors to support counsellors and clients.

Service Development

1. To ensure the clinical team collect client outcome measures and experience of service feedback to inform the ongoing development of the organisation.

2. To lead on recruiting, interviewing, inducting, and training new volunteers and trainees

3. To lead on clinical development within the counselling management team working alongside the Service Support and Development Manager to ensure quality of policies and procedures is client centred and trauma aware.

4. To lead on the development of our services ensuring they are accessible to all our users, monitoring and implementing practices that reflect our ongoing commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

5. To champion developmental change in our service delivery and provide support and training to enable this

1. To maintain a physical presence across our offices, working to a flexible principle of a 60/40 split between Great Yarmouth (60%) and Norwich (40%)

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Counselling Support and Development Manager

Qualifications:

1. Minimum Diploma level qualification in counselling

2. Minimum 450 hours clinically supervised counselling experience

3. Achieved or working towards BACP accreditation.

Skills/knowledge required:

1. Experience of planning and implementing a needs-based training and development programme for a team

2. Experience of working and understanding the needs of trainee’s and volunteers within a service

3. Experience of working in a client focussed multi disciplinary service

4. Experience of implementing quality standards and training across teams of staff, volunteers and trainees.

5. Experience of implementing and managing change

6. Current ongoing and proven counselling experience within an organisation

7. A deep understanding and empathy with people who have experienced trauma particularly in relation to sexual violence and abuse.

8. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with proven ability to communicate with a range of different people

9. Clear understanding of the person-centred counselling approach and/or EMDR or Somatic therapy, within the context of a person centred service.

10. Experience in working with other agencies and stakeholders

11. Experience of managing and implementing processes to collect and analyse evidence of the impact of services on clients e.g. outcome measures and experience of service questionnaires

We’re a small charity that brings communities together to create cleaner, connected and safer urban and rural neighbourhoods by tackling the litter problems where they live. Litter-picking brings people closer together, enables neighbours to meet one another other and helps create a greater sense of pride and community in local areas.

Harrogate Homeless Project is seeking to recruit a Volunteer Coordinator to join the Fundraising and Marketing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the growth and development of Volunteering within the organisation. Working with the Fundraising and Marketing Manager, the position will look to develop opportunities for increasing income across fundraising and recruiting volunteers for all areas of HHP activities.

​The Role

This role will work with HHP’s Management Team to develop opportunities for all areas within the Charity. Regular activities will include, developing recruitment campaigns to promote volunteering with HHP, ensuring all volunteers receive an induction and appropriate training, and identifying specific skills volunteers have developed and matching these to suitable volunteer opportunities to maximise the benefits for HHP and the volunteer.

About Us:

Harrogate Homeless Project provides people experiencing homelessness with a safe place to stay and the support they need to build confidence and move towards independent living.

In this varied and rewarding role you will develop and coordinate our team of volunteers and Sessional Workers (zero hours youth workers).  You will be instrumental in defining our volunteer strategy moving forward and identify other participation opportunities such as work experience placements, university placements, internships and apprenticeships.

S/he will have experience of working in communities under pressure, be committed to a community-led approach and be capable of establishing and running environmental sessions, including litter picks and chairing of community meetings.  S/he will have the  skills and personal qualities to build strong, trusting relationships, and the confidence and maturity to encourage and support others to take a lead.

Hackney Foodbank is looking for a Volunteer Manager to join their team 2 days per week (14 hours).

Purpose and Key Responsibilities:

The Volunteer Manager role is responsible for recruiting, engaging and deploying volunteers into a wide variety of roles across the charity.

• Work with the Warehouse Manager and Food Distribution teams to support the recruitment journey and retention of volunteers. Encourage people to volunteer through a variety of marketing and promotion approaches, including social media and working with our Communications and Fundraising team to develop a strategy for volunteers. Develop, coordinate, and engage a network of around 150 active volunteers. Book and signpost volunteers to relevant and engaging volunteer training sessions. Work with the Warehouse Manager and Head of Food Distribution and Volunteering to resolve any volunteering related issues or complaints. Proactively liaise with the staff team to determine volunteer requirements, select volunteers for the right roles and match them to the right people, considering preferences and restrictions on both sides. Provide advice and guidance to volunteers about their matched relationship (with support from the wider team) and highlight safeguarding concerns as appropriate. Work effectively to ensure volunteers feel part of Hackney Foodbank. Support the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of our services.
• Gathering volunteer feedback and take appropriate steps for improvement.
• Manage the Assemble platform and implement the annual Peakon volunteer survey, and implement the recommendations resulting from the survey.
• Ensure the wellbeing of the volunteers, including good communication and arranging a minimum of two volunteer events a year.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• A minimum of three years’ experience of coordinating, managing or supervising a team of volunteers, to deliver a range of service delivery tasks.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to grow and develop a Dementia Service that was launched at Age UK Westminster in 2022. Offering a weekly community-based Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy group that provides a vital contribution to living well with dementia and a monthly Memory Cafe, we are looking for someone with the knowledge, skills, experience and passion to ensure that more residents can benefit from this Service. 

Summary of role Age UK Westminster launched its Dementia Service in 2022 supporting older people (aged 50+) living in the City of Westminster who are experiencing memory and cognitive impairment and are experiencing confusion and dementia resulting in severe social isolation. The service also supports those who are caring for people with these issues.

In 2024 the ambition is to grow the reach of the successful monthly ‘Heart of Westminster' Cafe delivered in partnership with the Salvation Army’s Regent Hall and a weekly community-based MCST group and provide expertise to the Befriending team to manage some befriending matches. Demonstrating the value of these community-based activities and ensuring they are supported by a trained and supported volunteer team will contribute to securing continuation funding.

The role will involve close liaison with Westminster’s Memory Service and other community organisations that support older people living with memory loss and dementia.

Key responsibilities
● Co-ordinate the successful running of the monthly ‘Heart of Westminster’ Cafe in the Soho ward of the City of Westminster.
● Co-ordinate the successful running of up to two weekly MCST groups at Marylebone Church in Westminster including the co-ordination and triage of referrals for MCST groups
● Ensure the design and provision of activities and information that will enhance the lives of those attending and their carers. There is a significant resource bank of materials and activities
● Facilitate an environment where acceptance of dementia will bring about positive feelings for anyone affected by it
● Promote the service across Westminster to ensure that all those who would benefit are able to attend. This will include working with other professionals and ensuring that publicity materials are available
● Working with colleagues at Age UK Westminster and other professionals to identify and assess individuals who would benefit from being matched with a trained dementia volunteer. Home-visiting may be required.
● Deliver dementia awareness training to staff and volunteers
● Working with Age UK Westminster’s Volunteer Coordinator grow the volunteer resource
● Provide ongoing support and supervision to the team of Dementia volunteers
● Ensure that all records are kept up to date for the service and be responsible for the implementation of monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance procedures 

We’re looking for two self-starting team members who will help coordinate our JUMP befriending project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees.

You’ll be responsible for half of the befriending pairs (currently 28, increasing to 50 in the coming months) and undertake tasks such as working with our partner organisations, managing referrals for young people, recruiting volunteer befrienders, and setting-up and sustaining pairs. This includes leading an initial training day.

You’ll also provide JUMP young people with casework support, help organise our group events and facilitate support from our Hardship Fund.

Main functions

Supporting young people and the JUMP Community

1. Managing a caseload of young people; including offering casework support; arranging and attending appointments with the young person where necessary and signposting to available support.
2. Helping plan and organise quarterly group events.
3. Conducting initial assessments with young people to understand their needs, and once paired with a volunteer, hosting befriending initial meetings.

 Supervising and supporting volunteers

1. Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new befrienders, including organising and delivering training.
2. Supporting befriending volunteers through regular supervisions, meetings, emails and phone calls, and responding promptly to any safeguarding concerns raised.
3. Ensuring that volunteers uphold JUMP’s policies and boundaries for befriending.

Publicising JUMP, and engaging with key stakeholders

1. Publicising the project to existing and potential referral agencies, and establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them.
2. Representing HIAS+JCORE and JUMP in the refugee sector as required, for example at the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium (RMCC) meetings.

Project monitoring, evaluation and record keeping

1. Working with experts and the JUMP Project Manager on supporting the project and its evaluation, and keeping accurate records in JUMP’s database.

1. Ensuring that JUMP informs our campaigns, communications and education work. As the project develops, there will be opportunities for the post-holder to contribute to and support these areas of our work.

• Understanding of youth work principles and methods, including the benefits and challenges of befriending and other participatory methods.
• Ability to network in the refugee sector and develop strong working relationships.
• Ability to work independently and to self-motivate.
• Commitment to HIAS+JCORE values, social justice and antiracism.
• The ability to communicate in languages other than English, in particular Arabic, Spanish and French (desirable)

• A track record of working directly with asylum seeking and refugee children and young people.
• Experience of social work, youth work, or other relevant methods of supporting people in challenging circumstances.
• Experience of training, coordinating and supporting volunteers.
• Experience of juggling commitments and responding to relevant stressful situations.

• Educated to at least undergraduate degree level, or equivalent background or experience.
• Working knowledge of Local Authorities’ responsibilities for Looked After Children and Care Leavers.
• Experience of project management including administration, monitoring, evaluation and report writing.
