Job description

TLC: Talk Listen, Change are looking for a Children and Young People’s Rapid Response worker to deliver a crisis service for children and young people aged 5-18 living in the Wigan area who have been arrested following the use of harmful and physically violent behaviours towards their parents / carers. The service is trauma informed, supporting young people to change their behaviour through work with both them and their families. The service will provide a rapid response for young people at crisis point working intensively with individuals and families for a short period of time, and work closely with youth justice teams and other services in the area.

The role

As a Key Worker, you’ll be a game-changer in the lives of young individuals, shaping their future by identifying their struggles and initiating paths for improvement. You’ll collaborate with various agencies, becoming an essential bridge to the resources they require, and implement effective risk management procedures with the support of senior staff. You’ll also serve as a mentor, delivering a variety of program materials focused on prevention, early intervention, and behaviour modification in both one-on-one and group settings. Additionally, you’ll engage with the parents/carers of these young individuals, ensuring they are part of the solution, and make appropriate referrals for partners/ex-partners and children connected to them. This role is about stepping up and making a difference. Are you ready to take on the challenge?

About you

Are you a natural leader who thrives on guiding young minds? We’re looking for someone who can confidently deliver programmes to children and young people, adept at managing dynamics in both one-on-one and group settings. In group settings you’re able to be a team player with colleagues to model prosocial behaviour to the clients. You’ve proven your ability to earn the trust of young people and aren’t afraid to address challenging and harmful behaviour head-on.

You’ve ideally worked directly with a client group in a therapeutic setting and have experience managing safeguarding issues. You’re comfortable navigating conflict and always bring a positive, solution-focused attitude to the table.

If you’re multilingual or have experience supporting young people with complex needs, we’re especially interested in hearing from you.

We believe in empowering our team members to bring their best to this role. That’s why we offer flexible working hours around core business times. We also provide an annual Professional Development allowance, a generous annual leave package, and even time off for your birthday, Health & Wellbeing Day and EDI-focused Volunteering Day.

So, if you’re ready to make a real impact and shape the future of our young people, we’d love to hear from you.

About us

TLC: Talk, Listen, Change is a relationships charity that has been providing support to individuals, couples, families, and communities in the North of England for over 40 years. The charity focuses on promoting emotional wellbeing through the cultivation of safe, healthy, and happy relationships. Originally serving Greater Manchester, the organisation has expanded its reach to help people all over England. TLC offer a range of services tailored to meet the diverse relationship challenges faced by the community. Our commitment to evolving our services ensures we continue to meet the growing needs of those we serve.

TLC values safe, healthy, and happy relationships both within the workplace and beyond, emphasising a culture that is safe, authentic, and person-centred, reflecting our commitment to valuing staff as much as the people we support. The organisation takes pride in being progressive and inclusive. TLC have made specific commitments to staff well-being and inclusivity, such as the Age-Friendly Employer Pledge, supporting Afro-hairstyles through the Halo Code, and endorsing the White Ribbon campaign to end men’s violence against women. These initiatives support work to build an equitable and respectful work environment.

We aim to encourage a culture where people can be themselves and be valued for their strengths. We seek to attract and employ the best people from the widest pool, reflecting the diverse range of people we support.

We want to make our recruitment processes accessible to everyone. As standard practice we provide interview questions prior to the interview so we can concentrate on getting to know you. If there is any way that we can support you to be the best you can be, please contact us.
