There are nearly a million people in the UK who live with a form of dementia, and despite the progress being made in the search for a cure, it is unlikely to come quick enough to help them. For these people, what’s essential is to find the best way of living with their dementia.

‘Our Dementia Choir’ began as part of a documentary created for BBC1 in 2018. The two-part series saw acclaimed actress Vicky McClure take us on a deeply personal journey where she sets out to discover the true extent of music’s power in combatting dementia.  Vicky knows only too well the cruelness of dementia having helped care for her grandma who died in 2015.  Vicky also saw the amazing effect the music had in calming her down as well as giving glimpses of the old “Nana”. 

Today, we work with carers and volunteers to hold regular rehearsals for choir members, each living with dementia.  The Choir gives regular performances, and is involved in a range of community projects. As a leading voice on the power of music for people living with dementia in Nottingham, the Charity’s aim is to bring the power of music to other communities and organisations within the UK.

About the role

Our Dementia Choir is seeking a dynamic, compassionate, experienced CEO to lead the team supporting the choir and the charity as it moves into a new stage of development.

As an experienced CEO, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the charity, adherence to the requirements of the charity commission as well as ensuring the charity delivers on its mission and vision – ensuring operational excellence to support all choir members and their carers.

This role requires a leader with a proven track record of excellent people skills, organisational management, clear understanding of charity governance and correct procedures, creative thinking and highly effective collaboration and organisation. You will be a team player and have the ability to foster a positive, inclusive and productive organisational culture within the team as well as across the organisation as a whole.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Lead the development and execution of the strategic plan; ensuring the Charity's vision and objectives are implemented, clearly documented and effectively communicated to all relevant stakeholders.

Identify, build and maintain relevant opportunities for partnerships and collaborations that enhance the Charity's impact and reach.

Operational Management

Maintain a detailed understanding and responsibility of all key workstreams, activities and related processes across the Charity. 

Ensure compliance with current policies, regulatory standards and procedures, particularly the Charity Commission and ICO.

Team Leadership and Development

Inspire, motivate, and mentor team members and volunteers, encouraging them to foster the same in their practices. 

Create a collaborative work environment where all employees can flourish, are motivated and feel a sense of purpose.

Programme and Project Management

Lead the effective delivery of the Charity’s current programmes and partnerships, whilst working with the Engagement Manager to identify new partnerships and development opportunities.

Stakeholder Engagement

Represent the Charity externally where relevant and appropriate, shaping its image and reputation through engagement with partners in the statutory, private, and voluntary sectors. 

Develop and embed a stakeholder engagement strategy to strengthen relationships.

Financial Management

Ensure the financial health and sustainability of the Charity and manage the day-to-day finances of the Charity.

Create and implement a fundraising plan that will consider identification of diversifying income streams, have documented plans and related timelines, to secure financial support for the Charity and  future initiatives.

Policy and Advocacy

Advocate for policies that support the charity’s mission and goals. 

Engage with local policymakers to promote the Charity's strategic vision.

Communication

Manage the Charity’s brand and ensure regular communication about the delivery of services and client feedback.

Person Specification and Selection Criteria

Essential:

• Minimum of 2 years experience in a senior leadership role within the charity sector.
• High level of understanding of charity compliance and governance.
• Have a good understanding of dementia, its impact on people living with the condition and those who care for them.
• Previous experience in financial planning, bidding and budgeting.
• Experience of developing and implementing organisational strategies and adapting action plans.
• Significant experience in fostering and promoting team and partnership working, and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• A strategic thinker with strong business acumen, a vision to driver the charity forward, but most importantly a people first leader.
• An adaptive leadership style with the ability to influence others and balance complex workloads.
• A clear and concise communicator who engages and supports a positive organisational culture.

Desirable: 

• Degree level or further training in relevant areas such as management, leadership, finance, governance.
• Ability to create an inclusive culture, building diverse teams and ensuring EDI strategy is embedded.

We are seeking a Dementia Carers Support Officer who can make a positive difference to the lives of unpaid carers in the diverse communities of Redbridge. We are a Queen's Award winning charity with over 30 years experience of supporting unpaid carers in Redbridge. The post holder will focus on supporting carers of someone with dementia, by providing them with advice, information, referrals and access to peer social and learning activities.  The role requires an understanding of health and social care services, particularly in relation to support for unpaid carers and someone who can show compassion and understanding to carers in crises or facing complex challenges.  A key outcome is ensuring carers can live a healthy and fulfilling life alongside caring and not be at risk of acute isolation.

This is a varied role, suited to someone with the experience and confidence to lead peer groups, activities, outreach and work with professionals at all levels.  There is plenty of scope within the role to develop new services in response to carer needs.  The post holder will work within a team of Community Support Officers. This is a job-share post with an existing part-time Dementia Support Officer.  The role is based mainly in Ilford and throughout Redbridge, with some home working.

About the Service

Solace Women’s Aid provides a wide range of services to victim/survivors of domestic and sexual abuse in Bexley including an advocacy and support service and specialist services co-located in a number of services. Solace works in partnership with the police to ensure that victim/survivors of domestic abuse are able to access the necessary support. As part of this partnership Solace are recruiting for a group worker, who will co ordinate and provided trauma informed groups to women in an in person and if required online setting. A key aspect of the role will be to advocate on behalf of service users to improve access to support in Bexley. This role will include assessing risk and ensuring that records are up to date in relation to progression of group work, sign posting of services users to other agencies where appropriate and ensuring that services users are supported to obtain access to the core service if and when required.

About the Role

The Duty Worker will Act as the first point of contact for Service Users who are victims of domestic abuse, you will complete risk and needs assessments, safety plan and provide advice and guidance.  You will then allocate to a IDVA for ongoing support.

In addition, you will be responsible for managing the duty phone and inbox, processing referrals from other agencies onto the duty spreadsheet and case management system. You will liaise with a range of appropriate agencies and services to ensure effective partnership working the Service User receives the best support package.

You will have a “can-do‟ approach and demonstrable commitment to Solace’s feminist approach to supporting women and their children to be safer. You will receive training and support for this role as necessary.

About you 

Our ideal candidate is a great communicator, with experience in content planning, social media content creation and management, newsletter copywriting, website management, and graphic design. They should be well-versed in crafting narratives for a variety of audiences and outputs, and managing an organisational communications calendar.

The role 

Key components of the role include: 

1. Social media content development - collaborate with internal subject specialists to produce consistent and frequent on-brand written and visual content for social channels, in support of brand and advocacy goals. You’ll use Canva and Adobe Creative Suite and AgoraPulse for this. 

2. Content briefing - craft high-quality creative briefs (for copy, design, multimedia) to be followed by internal staff or external suppliers where required.

3. Email - develop, write and send UnitedGMH’s regular email newsletter, working with internal staff to source news, updates and relevant content tailored for email subscribers.

4. Website development - develop, maintain and update content for UnitedGMH and GMHAN websites, including uploading content and editing pages.

5. Video and audio production: Develop consistent, platform-appropriate video and audio content streams, from short-form videos to the creation of new podcasts.

6. Social media channel and community management - lead on day-to-day management and posting on UnitedGMH and GMHAN social media channels, including X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Instagram. Manage paid social campaigns where required. Use monitoring tools to manage social media comments (organic and paid), as well as newsletter email replies.

7. Brand guardian: Be a firm steward of UnitedGMH and GMHAN brands, helping to ensure consistent application of visual identity and tone of voice across all external organisational outputs, maintaining high standards of design.

8. Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting - create regular analytic reports for social and email channels with data-driven recommendations as to how outputs can be continuously improved. 

9. Editorial planning and communications calendar management - lead on the maintenance, updating and adjusting of the organisation’s communications calendar, to drive consistent, planned-in-advance content across channels in support of brand building and key advocacy moments. 

10. Team support - support the communications team through project management, meeting management, processing supplier invoices, keeping journalist lists up-to-date, and other responsibilities where needed. 

Requirements 

• Understanding, and experience in use, of online channels (incl. website content management systems (CMS) such as Wordpress and Squarespace, a broad spectrum of social media platforms and email marketing through Mailchimp) 

• An excellent copywriter, with demonstrable experience crafting copy for different audiences - including for social media and email newsletters

• Strong research and proofreading skills, adapted to key audiences

• Comfortable prioritising and delivering on multiple pieces of work against tight timeframes

• Highly organised individual with experience of team administration support 

• A “doer”- ability to anticipate requirements and act to provide workable solutions with limited budget 

• A good knowledge of CRM systems.

• An understanding of using digital project management tools e.g. Trello

• An interest in mental health, advocacy and international development

This organisation is the leading provider of advice, dementia care and support, day care, fitness and frailty support services in the diverse North London borough. Its mission is to improve the lives of older people in Enfield by ensuring they are valued, active, connected, and able to live the life they choose.

The organisation is seeking an experienced, driven, and strategic CEO to lead its team of 79 staff with passion and energy. This is an exciting time, as a landmark project is underway, creating significant opportunities to expand its offerings with a new bespoke facility. The new Chief Executive Officer will drive the execution of strategic objectives, oversee financial and operational management, and grow the organisation's footprint through income generation and service development.

To be successful, you need:

• Proven senior leadership experience as a CEO or similar senior level, with a strong track record of managing teams, working with a board, operations, and strategy in a charity or relevant sector.
• A strong background in successful fundraising, securing grants, and forging strategic partnerships, with expertise in diversifying income streams.
• Demonstrable experience in financial management, including budgeting, cost control, and oversight of financial reporting.
• Extensive experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, funders, and health and social care partners.

 Given the rapidly changing humanitarian context, this role will play a leading part in shaping our position in ensuring locally led capability is at the forefront of sector best practices. It will help to strengthen and grow our response capabilities, impact, and accountability of our humanitarian portfolio.

The post will drive our response to international disasters, building programmes and partnerships to support both relief and recovery efforts. The portfolio includes a strong established climate resilience focus. The establishment and maintenance of effective local partnerships with credible local actors is essential to develop our Disaster Preparedness Initiative (a network of local partners in disaster prone countries who we work with to respond to large and small disasters).

You should have:

• A deep understanding of international development & humanitarian theory, practice and standards
• Extensive relevant experience in the humanitarian ecosystem 
• Experience of leading within disaster response situations 
• Experience of contributing to complex programme decision-making, basing practical recommendations on sound analysis of risk and opportunity 
• Experience and knowledge of international humanitarian policy and practice issues and the humanitarian architecture sufficient to command the respect of others in the sector
• Experience in using best practices and humanitarian standards in designing programmes.
• Commitment to and experience of supporting locally led humanitarian action.
• Experience of developing and distance-managing partnerships with international or local agencies. 
• Proven experience of managing all elements of the project cycle. 
• An understanding of logical frameworks, monitoring and evaluation methodologies and the measurement of project impact. 
• Willingness to undertake significant international travel (approx. 4-6 trips per year).

About the role

At The Brilliant Club, we mobilise the PhD community to support students from less advantaged backgrounds to access the most competitive universities and succeed when they get there. We work with students who, because of their family income, parental history or the postcode they live in, are at risk of missing out on the life-changing opportunities linked to higher education.

We are excited to be recruiting a Research and Impact Director to lead the charity’s research and evaluation work. This senior role will be a part of the Senior Leadership Group and will report to the Chief Programmes and Communities Officer. Furthermore, the role will involve influencing and collaborating with different teams from across the organisation to ensure the research work that we do is to the highest standards and aligns with the charity’s strategic priorities. The role will be a figurehead internally and externally on all things research and evaluation.

The Research and Impact Department has two key areas of responsibility: evaluating and reporting the impact of the charity’s programmes and providing research and evaluation consultancy to mission-aligned organisations. The team consists of a Senior Impact and Evaluation Officer who evaluates the impact of our programmes and oversees stakeholder impact reporting, as well as a Research and Evaluation Consultancy Lead and Senior Research and Evaluation Officer who deliver the charity’s consultancy work via Brilliant Consulting.

The Brilliant Club has a strong reputation in the sector for our approach to evaluating internal programmes. As well as utilising UCAS progression data and the Higher Education Access Tracker to monitor long term impact, the Research and Impact Department regularly undertake internal research projects to enhance and improve our programmatic impact. As we embark on our next strategy, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in this process of continuous evaluation and programmatic improvement.

Through our consultancy work, we have partnered with a range of universities and education organisations, such as the Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO) and The Sutton Trust. A key part of this role will be building our consultancy work further in order to generate income and new strategic partnerships.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading research and evaluation work in a relevant field and will have strong research skills and knowledge of evaluation methodologies. They will be highly experienced with managing stakeholder relationships and have commercial acumen. While this role can be based at either our London or Leeds office, some travel will be required (mainly to London) to attend in-person meetings.

Peer Mentor (Mental Health) – The Recovery House Service 

Location: Alum Rock, Birmingham 

Salary: £24,570 per annum 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Birmingham Mind is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate individual to join our organisation as a Peer Mentor. As a Peer Mentor you will need to have living experience of mental health difficulties and have gained a level of insight into your mental health experience and be ready to talk about them openly. It is important that applicants have reached a period of stability and can manage their mental health and wellbeing, in order for them to be ready for this role. We are looking for someone who is ready to use their experience to support and inspire service users in their recovery journey. Peer Mentors will support service users on their emotional journey, and form therapeutic alliances to share ways of coping, understanding and nurturing hope and inspirations. 

You will need to have excellent communication skills, with a good understanding of the individual recovery journey and the issues facing people suffering with mental health difficulties. We need a Peer Mentor who is able to share the values of our organisation and is passionate about our vision of “Better Mental Health for All” in Birmingham. 

You will be joining a brand-new team for our newly commissioned service Recovery House. This is an exiting and innovative service for Birmingham Mind and is an opportunity to create a flagship standard of support and care for those in mental health crisis. The service will supply short stay accommodation for people in crisis, for a maximum of 7 nights. Recovery House is a CQC Registered service commissioned by the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust and peer mentors will be part of a multi-disciplinary team made up of Birmingham Mind and NHS Staff.
