European Food Business Manager (12-month FTC)

About the role
As our European Food Business Manager, you’ll help Compassion in World Farming end factory farming and support a more humane, sustainable food system.
You’ll build trusted relationships with leading food businesses across Europe, encouraging practical improvements in farm animal welfare and helping companies reduce reliance on animal-sourced products where this supports our programme goals.
As our European Food Business Manager, you’ll be responsible for:
- Building positive relationships with food businesses across Europe - Using a consultative, evidence-led approach to encourage meaningful public commitments on farm animal welfare, including cage-free systems, better chicken welfare and improved fish welfare.
- Supporting sustainable food system change - Helping companies develop practical, measurable targets to reduce reliance on meat, fish, dairy and eggs where aligned with Compassion’s work.
- Turning commitments into progress - Working with colleagues and external partners to support implementation, reporting, transparency and benchmarking through Compassion’s tools and resources.
- Representing Compassion externally - Contributing to industry meetings, forums and collaborative projects that help improve animal welfare and food system resilience.
About you
To succeed as our European Food Business Manager, you’ll bring strong relationship management skills and the confidence to influence, negotiate and support others towards shared goals. You’ll be comfortable working with external partners or businesses, adapting your communication style for different audiences and managing several workstreams at once.
Skills and experience you’ll need to bring as our European Food Business Manager:
- Experience of building and managing positive relationships with external partners, clients, businesses or stakeholders.
- Experience in sales, marketing, communications, procurement, supply chain, CSR, sustainability, food business or another relevant commercial or advocacy setting.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to adapt messages for internal and external audiences.
- Good project and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise, take initiative and meet deadlines.
- An interest in farm animal welfare, sustainable food systems, corporate sustainability or food industry supply chains would be helpful, but we are also open to transferable experience.

We're looking for an experienced, enthusiastic CRM & Insights Officer to join Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS). If you enjoy transforming data into meaningful insights, improving supporter experiences, and helping charities grow their impact, we'd love to hear from you.

As our CRM & Insights Officer, you'll play a pivotal role in helping us understand and engage our supporters more effectively. You'll take ownership of our CRM database (Donorfy), ensuring our data is accurate, secure and well managed, while producing the insights that shape fundraising and marketing decisions. Your work will directly support supporter acquisition, retention and engagement, helping us raise more funds to improve animal welfare across the globe.
Working within our Marketing Team and reporting to the Individual Giving Manager, you'll collaborate closely with colleagues across fundraising, finance and technology to develop reporting, build audience segments, analyse campaign performance and continuously improve how we use data throughout the organisation.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
CRM Oversight
- Lead on and administer Donorfy, ensuring accurate and up-to-date supporter records.
- Maintain excellent data quality, integrity and compliance
- Support the implementation of CRM best practice across the organisation.
- Ensure data is managed in accordance with GDPR and internal policies.
- Act as the first point of contact for day-to-day CRM queries from colleagues.
Reporting & Insights
- Produce regular fundraising and marketing reports, dashboards and KPI tracking.
- Analyse supporter and donor data to identify trends, opportunities and risks.
- Provide actionable insights to support donor acquisition, retention and reactivation activity.
- Monitor campaign performance and produce post-campaign analysis.

Segmentation & Campaign Support
- Build audience selections and supporter segments for fundraising and marketing campaigns.

- Work with international PETA entity teams to share ideas, adapt campaign materials, and help ensure that digital campaigns are timely, creative, and effective.
- Help coordinate and attend Paris-based events when needed, such as demonstrations, actions, and celebrity photo shoots.
- Monitor social media outside standard working hours when necessary, including evenings or weekends during urgent campaigns, breaking news moments, or major campaign launches.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Native or near-native French speaker with at least conversational English
- Excellent French writing skills and an understanding of what resonates with people online

Reporting into WWT’s central operations leadership, you will take full responsibility for the day to day operations leading a dedicated team of more than 60 staff and 250 volunteers to deliver our ambitious financial, visitor engagement and conservation objectives for the centre. In addition you will lead an exciting master-planning process working in collaboration with colleagues in the operations directorate, central leads and centre staff to deliver a plan that sets the site up for success over the next decade and unlocks significant funding.
WWT Slimbridge offers an amazing day out and a wonderful introduction to wetland wildlife and it is your responsibility to provide an unforgettable experience on each and every visit. Visitors can experience the spectacle of tens of thousands of wild birds, immerse themselves in wetlands teaming with life and get close to some of the world’s most amazing wetland birds and mammals. The site features adventure and water play areas, canoe safari, interactive exhibits and walk-through aviaries in addition to over 800 acres of wetland reserve with wildlife viewing hides, including a three-storey tower with magnificent views of the Severn Estuary.
The role has responsibility for all aspects of the site - working closely with the centre’s senior leadership team you will deliver excellence across the areas of trading and admissions, visitor experience and engagement, learning and marketing, living collections and the wetland reserve - a Ramsar wetland site, Special Protection Area (SPA) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on account of its internationally important wetlands. WWT's charity headquarters are also based at the Slimbridge site, and you will work closely with the team, jointly contributing to the delivery of WWT’s Wetlands are the way 2030 strategy.
About You
To be a success in this role you must be an experienced and professional manager and a great leader, comfortable with both operational delivery, visible on the floor leadership and the ability to input strategically at the highest level. You should be strong on financial and business numeracy, comfortable owning the P&L and able to deliver against ambitious and motivating targets while maintaining day-to-day performance.
You will have impeccable standards for cleanliness, health & safety and the visitor experience and a track record for building team performance and morale.

Essential criteria:
- Educated to degree standard or equivalent
- Demonstrable and successful operations experience within a large visitor attraction or similar operation
- Demonstrable leadership skills, able to positively lead, motivate and continually develop teams and individuals, including volunteers
- Demonstrable ability to create a positive work culture in line with an organisation’s agreed values and behaviours, work collaboratively at all levels and lead by example
- Demonstrable and successful people management with experience in recruitment, training, motivation and performance management
- Demonstrable experience of identifying and developing commercial opportunities
- Demonstrable experience of the development and implementation of financial management plans, work programmes and budget controls
- Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering a masterplan or strategic plan and project management experience

This is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week, 5 days from 7.
