General Overview of Role

The post-holder will be responsible for writing bid applications within Combat Stress. This will include:

• Support the development and delivery of Combat Stress's bid writing under the leadership of the Director of Fundraising (DoF) and Head of Trusts and Foundations (HTF), in order to support our role as a specialist UK-wide provider of mental health services to veterans with complex mental health needs.
• With guidance and support from DoF and HoTF contribute to the various stages of a bid or tender process.
• Support the team in managing service contracts.
• Ensure compliance with the business development framework and governance processes - with support from DoF and HoTF.

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities

• Complete bid writing in support of the business development agenda of Combat Stress, working with all departments in promoting our services to attract new business and supporting cost-effective service delivery.
• Contribute to our revenue generation agenda by owning and contributing to bid documents such as mobilisation or communication plans.
• Support the assessment of the healthcare market within which we operate, to ensure we are best placed to achieve growth and have the appropriate strategies to mitigate risks
• Support the development, monitoring and delivery of business developments plans, systems and processes in line with our strategy and targets
• Work across departments in order to adhere to the full service specification of the bid or tender.
• Work with the DoF to develop existing partnership arrangements and to develop the case to support new service and business partnerships, commercial ventures, and creative contract solutions to further our strategic aims.
• Manage the "bid/no bid" process to lead our responses to ITTs, lead on bid writing and project management of bid submissions
• Produce reports and proposals, including spreadsheets, involve bids for additional funding from commissioners.
• Review and refine all business development processes and templates to maintain "fit for purpose"

Contract Management

• Assist with the development, monitoring, management, and review of contracts.

Communication

• Contribute to the communication strategy within and external to the Charity
• Support the team on any other projects as requested by the DoF

General responsibilities

• Ensure data collection in general is kept up to date, in accordance with legislation and the policies of the Charity, and incident reports are completed in accordance with the policies of the Charity.
• We reserve the right to ask you from time to time to undertake any other reasonable duties as required within this role.

Risk Management

• As an employee of the Charity, the postholder is required to be risk aware and readily able to identify risks faced in the course of day-to-day duties. Where a new risk is identified it is to be reported through the postholder's line manager

Key Details

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Finance Manager with a locally-led charity dedicated to ensuring the rights of children in west Africa on a permanent, full-time basis. As Senior Finance Manager you will lead the charity’s financial operations and play an important part in strengthening their financial systems and processes. A key part of the role early on is to improve the quality of financial data collection and processing by the project teams.

As Senior Finance Manager, you will:

- Be responsible for running all of the charity’s financial operations

- Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful financial reports (including monthly and quarterly management accounts) for the CEO and Board

- Support the charity’s plans to scale by playing a lead role in financial planning for their new programme. This includes helping to design budgets and financial management systems

- Support fundraising colleagues in preparing budgets and financial reports for donors

- Work closely with colleagues in West Africa to ensure policies, systems, and processes effectively track and manage funds in compliance with internal agreements and donor restrictions (particularly around restricted/unrestricted funds)

The successful applicant will:

- Have significant demonstrable experience in finance within the charity sector (ideally a similar type of organisation) in a similar role

- Have a good understanding of charity financial reporting, audits, compliance, and managing multi-currency financial operations

- Be a fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA etc)

The post holder will provide strategic leadership of the governance, and associated functions, supporting the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to proactively and effectively lead and manage the organisation to operate efficiently at its best. They will also be a natural collaborator, working with key stakeholders such as The Head of Legal to provide high level technical advice to members of the Movement and TSA staff concerning governing documents and key decisions, whilst also supporting effective governance at headquarters.  

Key Responsibilities:

• As a key senior leader in the charity, and critical support to The Board of Trustees, provide strategic leadership for governance and its development at The Scouts
• Design and implement a strategic plan for the Governance function to meet the needs of the organisation
• Ensure that all legal vehicles across The Scout Association comply with all regulatory requirements and remain compliant with changes in charity law and the wider regulatory environment
• Work closely with the Head of Legal to ensure legal, regulatory and statutory compliance, and in particular that appropriate legal advice and guidance is applied to The Scouts decision making and governance processes, wherever, appropriate

About the role

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we have our own unique role to play in reaching the North Star. We know our strengths and where we can have the most impact to best support children and young people with cancer. Within our new strategy ‘The Time is Now’ we set out four strategic ambitions, the first stating we will continue to be a major service delivery provider: offering high quality, impactful services. We are proud to lead the way in delivering high-level, psychosocial support and accommodation services throughout cancer treatment, end-of-life, and bereavement and we want to ensure our investment in this area is optimised to make sure we always provide the tailored support that children, young people and families need and that our services remain relevant.

You will be joining an established operational leadership team who are committed to continuous service improvement. Service Managers play a key leadership role in the management and development of a region, which is made up of three social work teams located alongside Principal Treatment Centres which are Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield. Your responsibilities will include delivering service standards, and compliance. You will interface with NHS stakeholder colleagues to promote effective governance and multi-disciplinary relationships with a focus on smooth referral pathways. The team meets weekly to discuss management of the overall service-this effectively allows all team members to play an active role. In addition, to your designated region you will have a lead area of responsibility-this will be Deputy Safeguarding Lead. This role works closely with the Head of Safeguarding to ensure effective management of safeguarding across the charity as well as spanning workforce development and the promotion of best practice.

This position has four direct reports, 3 Team Managers and one Regional Service Coordinator, the latter provides support to the Service Manager and regional teams.

What will I be doing?

 About Alexandra Rose Charity 

Founded by Queen Alexandra in 1912, Alexandra Rose Charity (ARC) has a long history of supporting people experiencing poverty in the UK. Our vision is for everyone to have access to healthy and affordable food, and our mission is to give families on low incomes access to fresh fruit and vegetables in their local communities whilst advocating for systemic change to address food insecurity and health inequalities.

Since 2014, ARC has pioneered the use of financial incentives to improve access to healthy food and combat food insecurity through our Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg projects. To date, we have supported over 11,000 families, including over 20,000 children, to access £3.5 million of fresh fruit and vegetables in their local communities.

To deliver this scale, we work with 73 children and family centres and community organisations, 69 market traders and independent retailers, two fruit and vegetable vans and one fruit and vegetable delivery box scheme. We estimate that our projects have generated a total economic value added of almost £9 million for the local economies of the eight locations where we work: five London Boroughs, Barnsley, Liverpool and Glasgow.

As part of our new five-year strategy, we want to grow our reach and impact as part of a national movement where Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg projects are embedded in local and national policies and seen as a key intervention for transforming the diets of communities across the UK.

About the role  

As we launch our new 5 year strategy we are looking for an experienced Head of Finance & Business Services to help deliver our mission and support the growth and consolidation of the charity. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will play a key role in implementing our new strategy as well as managing risk.

You will take overall responsibility for the organisation’s financial management, working closely with the Chief Executive and the Treasurer.

You will provide effective finance business partner support to other functions within the charity to support its fundraising, operations and development.

You will also be responsible for the line management of the Finance & Business Administrator, working with the Chief Executive to both oversee and support the business services function of the charity.

In addition, you will prepare well-written structured persuasive cases for support and targeted funding applications. You will also ensure that fundraising is consistent with the charity's goals and ensure professional presentation of the charity to all funding sources.

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• Experience and successful track record of securing income from trusts, foundations and/or major donors.
• Experience of developing a fundraising strategy and income targets.
• Excellent writing skills with attention to detail and experience in preparing structured, engaging and successful grant applications.
• Financially literate with experience of navigating budgets specifically relating to projects.

IMPAKT’s mission is to ensure support to people recovering from trauma and the devastating impact of homelessness and/or domestic abuse, in a safe and aspirational environment.

They are seeking an organised, diligent accounting professional to work with the Director of Finance & Resources, to support the finance team in its delivery of high-quality, timely, and insightful financial information. You will work closely with budget holders, enabling data-led decision-making and supporting donor and committee reporting. As a key member of a small, collaborative team, you will be hands-on managing day-to-day operations, proactive in ensuring a strong internal control environment and keen to drive operational and cost efficiencies.

The Organisation:

IMPAKT Housing and Support is a dedicated organisation focused on providing safe, supportive housing solutions and personalised services to individuals in need. They are committed to assisting vulnerable individuals, including those experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and other complex needs, by offering not just housing but holistic support to promote independence and well-being. IMPAKT’s mission is to empower individuals to rebuild their lives through stable housing, tailored support services, and community involvement, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive in a secure and supportive environment.

The key duties of the Finance Manager are as follows:

• Preparation of monthly management accounts for DF&R to review
• On completion of the monthly management accounts; to distribute to Heads of Department and Managers the relevant reports, e.g. Housing, Domestic Abuse, Maintenance, Retail, Staff Training Marketing & Fundraising etc
• To meet with the relevant Heads of Department and Managers on a periodic basis to discuss the financial performance and outlook for the remaining periods
• Budget – to take responsibility for providing instructions/templates to Heads of Department and Managers for the submission of data to complete the draft budget. To arrange meetings as appropriate with the budget holders to discuss and agree the draft budget. Work with the DF&R to present the Draft Budget to Executive Team and then uploading to Xledger
• Cash – managing the cash resources of IMPAKT to ensure that any returns are achieved whilst ensuring there are adequate funds to meet liabilities as they fall due
• Completion and submission of quarterly VAT returns
• Providing staff with relevant guidance and training in the use of Xledger to meet their responsibilities
• Liaise with auditors and preparation of pre-audit information requests and dealing with any subsequent queries and requests in consultation with the DF&R
• Manage the finance team and oversee/reviewing sales ledger, purchase ledger, cash posting and all general ledger entries and that all reconciliations are completed and reviewed on a timely basis
• Overseeing the completion of the monthly payroll and submission of year end payroll returns and ensuring good collaboration with the People & Culture team on matters that affect staff salary payments
• Liaising with IMPAKT’s banks as and when required
• Provide regular 1:1’s and Annual Appraisals for the Finance team members

The successful candidate will have:

• Proven experience as Finance Manager
• Non-profit experience highly preferred
• Ideally fully qualified accountant but this is a desirable. Part qualified and qualified by experience are also acceptable
• Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in accounting and finance
• A good knowledge of the issues facing homeless people, and homelessness issues in general across all ages
• Possess a professional personal image and the ability to work harmoniously and establish positive relationships with staff at all levels and with third-party suppliers
• Ability to explain financial terms in simple language
• Demonstrate and convey a passion for the work of IMPAKT housing & support, including an understanding of the work we do and the challenges faced
