About the Role

Founded by Queen Alexandra in 1912, Alexandra Rose Charity (ARC) has a long history of supporting people experiencing poverty in the UK. Our vision is for everyone to have access to healthy and affordable food, and our mission is to give families on low incomes access to fresh fruit and vegetables in their local communities whilst advocating for systemic change to address food insecurity and health inequalities.

Since 2014, ARC has pioneered the use of financial incentives to improve access to healthy food and combat food insecurity through our Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg projects. To date, we have supported over 11,000 families, including over 20,000 children, to access £3.5 million of fresh fruit and vegetables in their local communities.

To deliver this scale, we work with 73 children and family centres and community organisations, 69 market traders and independent retailers, two fruit and vegetable vans and one fruit and vegetable delivery box scheme. We estimate that our projects have generated a total economic value added of almost £9 million for the local economies of the eight locations where we work: five London Boroughs, Barnsley, Liverpool and Glasgow.

As part of our new five-year strategy, we want to grow our reach and impact as part of a national movement where Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg projects are embedded in local and national policies and seen as a key intervention for transforming the diets of communities across the UK.

About the role  

As we launch our new 5 year strategy we are looking for an experienced Head of Finance & Business Services to help deliver our mission and support the growth and consolidation of the charity. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will play a key role in implementing our new strategy as well as managing risk.

You will take overall responsibility for the organisation’s financial management, working closely with the Chief Executive and the Treasurer.

You will provide effective finance business partner support to other functions within the charity to support its fundraising, operations and development.

You will also be responsible for the line management of the Finance & Business Administrator, working with the Chief Executive to both oversee and support the business services function of the charity.

Role Description

• Plan, write and edit a range of copy, both on and offline, including case studies, newsletters, blogs, infographics, films / video and promotional documents
• Produce content for Thrive at Five’s national LinkedIn channel, including videos, images and text, to support our overarching communications strategy and objectives  
• Analyse national and regional content performance across all channels and explore opportunities to drive audience engagement and growth, ensuring all online copy adheres to SEO best practice 
• Keep the Thrive at Five website up to date, writing and uploading regular news posts and blogs from across our programmes and activities

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.

The Community Fundraiser (West Midlands) is responsible for providing support and guidance to fundraisers within their communities to achieve their ambitions and ultimately raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research. This is achieved through a wide variety of activities such as helping supporters to make the most of their own fundraising, engaging participants with externally organised events such as the Great Birmingham Run, and encouraging communities to get involved in events organised by Brain Tumour Research such as Wear a Hat Day and Walk for Hope. We are recruiting a General Advice Officer to support with the delivery of advice and welfare support to vulnerable guests who access the Community Wellbeing Service, a local support hub offering relief from the rising cost of living for local families. The General Advice Officer will support our guests on a range of areas including benefits, immigration, housing, money management and access to training and employment services. The postholder will provide high quality welfare advice and guidance through weekly one-to-one advice sessions, undertake case work, work with partners to facilitate referrals, and provide support to advice volunteers. 

The successful candidate must have at least two years’ experience delivering effective advice or in a similar capacity, demonstrate empathy, an understanding of the issues facing vulnerable people, and have in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of welfare benefits and housing policies/legislations, with a strong focus on achieving tangible outcomes for our guests.

Advice Work

• Carry out assessments to identify urgent needs and appropriate support pathways for members at the Community Wellbeing Service.
• Support outreach or community engagement activities as needed.
• Provide holistic and person-centred advice and casework on the main enquiry areas, particularly welfare benefits, housing, employment, health and wellbeing, immigration and money management.
• Maintain Sufra’s Advice Quality Standards and meeting tangible outcomes.
• Produce detailed case records on our case management system for the purpose of continuity, statistical monitoring and report preparation
• Apply for funds from trusts and foundations to support individuals and families with essential costs such as housing deposits or white-goods and/or cancellation of debts;

JOB OVERVIEW

The Advice Services Manager will take the lead on BIAS’s day-to-day advice services, managing a small team of welfare and housing advice specialists to ensure that we provide the highest-quality service to our clients. You will need to have experience of delivering front-line benefits and/or housing advice, strong people skills and the ability to build good working relationships with staff and clients, along with excellent organisational abilities to ensure that casework and projects are delivered on time.

In 2025, BIAS is expanding its successful Brent-based welfare and housing advice service into Haringey borough. The Advice Services Manager will work closely with the Operations Manager to build and develop the new advice service in Haringey, ensuring that we replicate our excellent quality of service, strong record of positive outcomes and loyal client base.

This role will also involve working with the leadership team to help identify areas for future development and support grant applications and reporting, which will give you the opportunity to have a direct impact on shaping the organisation’s future strategy and direction.

KEY WORK AREAS AND MAIN DUTIES

Staff management

• Managing a small advice team, ensuring the quality of the advice provided.

• Ensuring good teamwork and lines of communication between staff and partner organisations.
• Creating a positive working environment in which equity and diversity are promoted and staff can do their best.

Quality and service delivery

• Leading the welfare advice services in both Brent and Haringey boroughs, and contributing to further expansion.
• Maintaining a small personal caseload (approximately one to two days’ work per week).
• Working with the Operations Manager to ensure that BIAS complies with Advice Quality Standard (AQS) requirements.
• Leading on monitoring service delivery, recording outcomes and ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
• Managing all aspects of risk relating to advice delivery, complaints handling, safeguarding and GDPR.

Operational support

• Working with the leadership team as required on operational matters, including planning, strategy for future development and grant applications and reporting.

These are the basic duties required of the Advice Services Manager. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and you may be required from time to time to perform other reasonable duties which are required for the efficient running of the organisation. We will also offer training opportunities to support your career development.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. This role will be based in our advice offices in Willesden and Haringey[1] but there may be some options for flexible working (i.e. one or two days per week).

ABOUT BIAS

BIAS is a local charity which has supported England’s largest Irish community in Brent for over forty-five years. We deliver our support through our welfare advice drop-in service, our active ageing clubs and our Be-a-Friend volunteer scheme. We raise over £2 million in extra income for the most vulnerable every year and have over 3000 attendances at our club services. BIAS has exciting plans for further expansion in 2025 and has a range of medium- to long-term grant funding, including from Ireland’s Emigrant Support Programme.

The Role

• To promote independence by supporting service users to move on positively.
• Develop networks across West London to build strong move-on pathways from the WLCH.

Your Role in Our Vision
As a Community Fundraiser, you'll play a vital role in our mission by empowering supporters in your local area to raise essential funds for Marie Curie. Reporting to the Deputy Head of Region, you'll collaborate with talented fundraising professionals to inspire individuals and groups to achieve their goals, ensuring their efforts make a lasting impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and nurture a network of fundraising groups and volunteers
- Deliver local elements of national campaigns, including The Great Daffodil Appeal
- Grow community involvement and financial support through outreach
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders

Finance Assistant (Part-Time) 
 
Location: Shoreditch, East London 
Salary: £27,008 (pro rata to £16,205 for 22.5 hours per week)

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Finance Assistant will play a vital role in the day-to-day financial administration of the charity. You will manage transactions using QuickBooks, process invoices and payments, assist with payroll, support the preparation for audit, and maintain accurate financial records. You'll also help us improve our financial systems as we continue to grow and adapt. 

This role also includes occasional receptionist cover, so we’re looking for someone friendly, reliable and adaptable.

A unique opportunity has arisen to join SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, as the Community Engagement Manager for the South East and London region.

About the role

In this new and pivotal role, you will lead efforts to grow awareness, engagement, and income generation through a vibrant network of volunteer-led branches across  London and the South East region. As the primary point of contact and support for these branches, you'll play a vital role in empowering volunteers and fostering a sense of community and belonging throughout the region.

Working closely with the wider regional team, you will help deliver SSAFA’s new community engagement strategy — a central part of an exciting period of transformation and strategic growth for the charity.

Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the South East and London region.

The role involves extensive travel within the region and may require occasional evening or weekend work at short notice. A company car can be provided to support this.

About the team

With the support of the Regional Manager – Casework and Community Engagement, this role plays a key part in establishing, coordinating, and leading a team of Community Engagement Volunteers across the South East and London Region of England.

The primary focus is to drive awareness, increase fundraising, and strengthen engagement in alignment with the strategic direction set by the Director of Welfare Operations.

You will work collaboratively with other regionally based Community Engagement Managers and strategic partners across the Fundraising, Marketing, and Communications directorate to help shape policies and guidance for branch activities,

The role involves regular meetings, both in-person and via Microsoft Teams, and you will benefit from a comprehensive support package including training, mentoring, and ongoing professional development.

About you

You will be an exceptional individual to lead this exciting initiative during a critical period of change. The ideal candidate will be a driven and highly motivated professional with a strong track record in fundraising, a solid understanding of fundraising regulations, and proven experience in leading and supporting volunteers in their efforts.

You will have excellent relationship management skills and a deep understanding of volunteer engagement and development. You will be a natural communicator with demonstrated success working with volunteers; experience in volunteer recruitment, induction, and best practice would be a strong advantage.

You will be a confident and credible networker, capable of representing SSAFA to a wide range of external stakeholders, building strong partnerships and enhancing the charity’s profile across London and South East England — all while operating remotely as part of a collaborative and regionally dispersed team.
