This is a senior leadership position offering a pivotal opportunity to shape our organization's financial and operational future. The Head of Finance and Operations will provide strategic guidance while ensuring the efficient and effective daily operations of all financial and administrative functions.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will deputize in their absence, contribute significantly to our organizational growth and success, and ensure a robust and compliant financial framework.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Financial & Operational Leadership

• Partner with the CEO to develop and implement long-term financial and operational strategies, including horizon scanning and risk management.

• Manage the organization's financial systems, specifically overseeing and optimizing the use of QuickBooks for all accounting and reporting functions.

• Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

• Develop, review, and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

• Oversee reviews and renewals of organizational insurance policies.

2. Financial Management & Oversight

• Oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, payroll, and taxation.

• Lead the annual audits for UK and US entities, ensuring accuracy and transparency and managing relationships with auditors.

• Maintain and manage banking relationships.

• Conduct regular variance analysis and recommend corrective actions to the CEO and leadership team.

• Oversee management of restricted funding.

• Develop and implement robust financial controls.

3. Fundraising and Data Systems

• Ensure accurate and timely financial reconciliation between CiviCRM and QuickBooks.

• Provide financial insights and analysis to support fundraising strategies and donor reporting.

4. Leadership & Governance

• Deputize for the CEO as needed, ensuring continuity across all operations.

• Maintain strong relationships with board members, providing comprehensive and insightful quarterly financial reports to foster understanding and engagement.

• Be responsible for managing relationships with our US bookkeeper (consultant) and both UK and US auditors, and for the line management of the UK Finance and Admin Officer.

5. Operational Excellence

Person Specification

Essential

• Professional accounting or finance qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).

• Proven experience in a senior finance and operations role (at least three years experience).

• Experience in preparing UK statutory accounts and managing external audits. 

• In-depth knowledge of UK FRS 102 and Charities SORP. Exposure to/experience of US GAAP.

• Experience in preparing the annual budget, working closely with budget holders.

• Experience in supporting grant management.

• High proficiency in using financial software. (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero etc.)

• Experience in driving continuous improvement of financial processes and systems. 

• Strong strategic and financial planning skills.

AAFDA was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.

Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown.  Most of these families suffer significant problems including relationship breakdown, job difficulties/loss and mental and physical health issues. We help these families in many ways, our prime function being to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.

AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a growing Charity and to meet the demands of this growth, we are looking for exceptional candidates to join our team in a highly rewarding opportunity. Although home based, some travel will be required - frequency will be commensurate to the role. Our Specialist Advocates support families impacted by fatal domestic abuse through provision of lay advocacy, for and on behalf of, families with a range of statutory service providers (e.g. those conducting reviews and inquiries, social services, police, housing) and work to build good relations between all parties.  To ensure that families get the support they need, you will use AAFDA’s Home Office endorsed seven-step approach to working with individuals and families, to ensure that they receive the best possible support and advocacy to restore dignity and relief for families and to help them cope and recover. Through trauma-informed approaches, you will:

listen to families and advocate for them in a complex system that too often treats them as passive participants and overlooks the value of their insight.
provide information, support, guidance, advice and advocacy on Domestic Homicide Reviews, Mental Health Reviews, Inquests, Independent Office of Police Conduct inquiries and other types of inquiries.
manage families’ expectations of the legal and procedural processes facing them by supporting families in meetings with agencies such as health, police and local authorities.
give families practical help on a wide range of issues - including help with letter writing or advocating with employers and local authorities on the families’ behalf.
Support AAFDA in our bringing families together in AAFDA’s peer support events, such as the Hear Our Voice weekend and the on-line peer support Zoom sessions, where families can speak with others to share their experiences and stories. This will involve occasional evening work.

You’ll empower people affected by Parkinson’s to live lives that are as fulfilling as possible,  whatever that means to them, to feel able to take an active role in their treatment and to become  their own advocate in health and life, wherever possible.

Our adviser teams work within local areas and via our national helpline. Our helpline hours are currently 09:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, and 10:00 to 13:00 on Saturday. We are looking for someone who can work on a flexible basis to ensure cover across the helpline’s working hours. There will also be the need to cover some hours on Saturdays, bank holidays and over the Christmas period.

About The Role

We’re looking for a People and Operations Manager with the objective of supporting and streamlining operations throughout Climate Catalyst, maintaining and strengthening our team culture and providing high-level support to leadership. This is a high-profile and exciting new role which is responsible for ensuring that anyone affected by baby loss or the death of a baby has the chance to access Sands peer led activities in the south of England, promoting sport and activities for health, wellbeing and support services and groups, ensuring that all sections of the community are aware of available activities and where they can go to be part of the community.

We are looking for successful, demonstrable experience of working with minoritised communities and a good working understanding of the barriers people experience accessing bereavement support and care in statutory, health and community settings.

With experience of coordinating volunteering programmes on a regional or national basis, you will be passionate and knowledgeable about the potential for volunteering within the charity sector.

You will have excellent communication skills suitable for a range of different audiences and environments, with significant experience of volunteer management and relationship building.

Additionally, you will have experience of working with marginalised communities together with an understanding of the barriers to accessing bereavement support that these communities encounter.

You will utilise your strong campaigning, digital, and mobilisation skills to develop and implement an effective model for facilitating activism across the UK to empower communities to influence and enhance the services that their deaf children rely on.

Your background and experience:

• Track record of designing and delivering successful influencing campaigns, particularly those that have led to policy change and improved services.
• Knowledge of the latest approaches for engaging people in campaigns (including those with lived experience), effective supporter journeys and mobilising campaigners (including through digital), using data and insight.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; adept at building and maintaining relationships with internal and external contacts at all levels, including parents or carers (desirable)
• Good knowledge of devolution and political systems/structures in the UK at a national and local level, as well as opportunities to influence them
• Ability to independently plan your own programme of work and apply strategic thinking. 

Leading pilot programmes will mean a pro-active, self-starter approach is essential, to enjoy the role, and gain buy-in both externally and internally across the charity.

The Role 

The Head of Marketing and Communications will shape and lead a new marketing and comms strategy in line with our Phab Strategy 2025 to 2030 – raising awareness of our work, growing our supporter base, championing inclusive practice, and ensuring that our messaging reflects and amplifies disabled voices. 

You will work closely with teams across the charity, especially fundraising, Adventures, and ACTS, to develop content and that help us connect with new audiences, demonstrate impact, and position Phab as a leader in disability inclusion. 

Key Responsibilities 

Strategy and Leadership 

• Develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy aligned with Phab’s mission and strategic objectives 

• Line manage and support the Social Media & Club Support Executive, and oversee the work of external freelancers/agencies where required

• Lead brand development and ensure consistency and accessibility across all channels and materials 

• Support the planning and delivery of Phab’s 70th Anniversary celebrations, with strong storytelling and visibility 

Campaigns and Content 

• Plan and deliver engaging multi-channel campaigns to promote Phab’s services, projects, and fundraising efforts 

• Produce high-quality content including blogs, newsletters, case studies, videos, and press releases

• Grow our reach across digital and traditional media, proactively seeking new PR opportunities 

• Support volunteers, Phab Club members and Phab Adventurers to tell their stories and represent Phab’s voice authentically and confidently 

Digital and Data 

• Manage and develop Phab’s website and ensure content is current, accessible, and engaging 

• Use data, analytics, and audience insight to guide strategy and optimise campaigns 

• Monitor and report on KPIs, reach, and engagement to the senior leadership team and board 

Collaboration and Influence 

• Work cross-functionally to align messaging and create joint campaigns with fundraising, Adventures and ACTS teams 

• Lead in media relations, building partnerships with relevant organisations, and influencers 

• Stay up to date with trends in marketing, communications, and the disability sector

Essential 

• Degree (or equivalent professional qualification) in Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline. 

• Substantial proven success in a senior leadership role within marketing and communications, ideally at organisational or national level. 

• Demonstrated experience of managing and motivating teams (staff and freelancers) and fostering collaborative working across departments. 

• Strong strategic acumen combined with a track record of delivering high-impact, multi-channel campaigns from conception to evaluation. 

• Proven expertise in fundraising communications, including shaping compelling supporter journeys that drive engagement and income growth. 

• Established networks and sector contacts that can be leveraged to amplify Phab’s reach and reputation. 

• Outstanding storytelling, copywriting, and content creation skills, with a portfolio of work demonstrating impact. 

• Evident commitment to disability inclusion, with practical understanding of the social model of disability. 

• Ability to champion inclusive communications and accessible design principles, embedding them across all channels. 

• High level of confidence in using digital tools, social media platforms, and analytics to optimise campaigns and engagement. 

Desirable 

• Experience working within, or in close partnership with, the charity and/or disability sector. 

• Understanding of brand development and creative direction, including visual identity management. 

• Experience of planning and delivering communications strategies for major organisational milestones or anniversary campaigns.
