The Senior Finance Officer is a key role working alongside the Finance Business Partner for ClientEarth’s Business Services and External Affairs teams (BS and EA) to assist in the production of the monthly management accounts, providing support to our budget holders and to a busy finance team.

This new role has been created due to an internal promotion. If you are actively studying for your ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification this role offers you study support while learning on the job, all while helping an environmental charity deliver on its mission of using the power of the law to protect life on Earth. 

You will join a finance team currently totalling 23 colleagues working across our offices in London, Brussels, Warsaw, Berlin, Madrid, Tokyo and Beijing.

Meet your Manager

In this role, you will be managed by Kasheena Paryag. In 2017, Kasheena started her career in the non profit sector and has had various finance roles in both charities and grant making organisations since. Kasheena joined ClientEarth in March 2022 and is based in our London Office. As a Finance Business Partner, Kasheena is the main point of contact for our CEO, Business Services and External Affairs departments, and works closely with these teams.

Main Duties

• Management Reporting - Support in the timely and accurate production of monthly management reporting from Workday Adaptive taking responsibility for running the reports for a number of budget departments.
• Budgeting and Forecasting - Support, as appropriate, with annual budget setting, entity budgets, monthly forecasting, process improvements and budget assumptions including Adaptive Planning modelling. 
• Data Integrity - Ensuring accurate coding of transactions, raising and responding to queries from budget holders. 

Role requirements

• Actively studying for ACA/ACCA/CIMA. Study support provided
• Experience of working with Access Dimensions, FocalPoint, Workday Adaptive or other similar accounting packages
• Experience of managing deadlines through a financial month end process 
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly of large excel spreadsheet functionality including lookups, pivot tables, data sorting

About the role

You will be responsible for planning and organising a calendar of events for our team to attend, from shopping centres to country shows, high streets to our reserves, and everything in between, so that they can inspire members of the public to become members of the RSPB.

Our aim is to inspire external partners about our attendance at their events or venues. We are looking for someone who is a confident relationship builder with excellent telephone and email manners and communication and negotiation skills. You must have impeccable organisational skills, a keen eye for detail, and be able to manage several tasks at once, recording all key details on our CRM database system daily to ensure that our team of Membership Fundraisers have everything they need to attend their events and venues.

You will be part of a successful and energetic team covering the whole UK. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the country. This position can be conducted from home, however, occasional travel, including to a local office, reserve or elsewhere in the United Kingdom, will be required.

Earthsight is looking for a Researcher/Campaigner to work alongside our Northern Forests Team Lead delivering impactful research, analyses and advocacy on wood products supply chains.

Earthsight is a non-profit organisation dedicated to researching and investigating environmental and social crime and injustice. We use cutting-edge investigative methods to uncover and expose wrongdoing. Since emerging as a fully-fledged organisation in 2016, our reports have garnered headlines, won awards and triggered major changes by governments and corporations.

We seek to create positive change by influencing government policy, uncovering greenwash and raising awareness among key constituencies about the impacts of global supply chains on the world’s forests and forest communities.

Over the years Earthsight has played a leading role investigating and exposing the links between illegal timber from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus and Western importers and retailers. We have shone a light on how flawed certification schemes are undermining effective law enforcement in Western markets and sought to influence internal reform at these bodies. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has prompted new focus on uncovering how Russian and Belarussian wood products still reach Western consumers and support these countries’ economies despite Western sanctions against them.

You will play a crucial role by helping drive forward Earthsight’s efforts to clean up global wood supply chains, including by debunking industry spin and monitoring and analysing relevant green labels and traceability technologies. You will support the delivery of advocacy campaigns aimed at key stakeholders to help strengthen law enforcement and increase transparency in opaque markets. You will also help expose how Western markets continue to fuel Russia and Belarus’ timber sectors, including through supply chains that are in breach of EU/US timber regulations or sanctions.

The position is offered as a full-time permanent contract. The successful candidate would preferably be based in the UK and able to come into our office in London regularly. Main tasks and responsibilities

• Monitor relevant media, NGO, think-tank, government and academic reports on EU, UK and US supply chains linked to forests and other biomes in relevant producing regions, including related to relevant sanctions on Russia and Belarus
• Monitor developments with industry lobbying efforts – particularly in relation to certification and traceability systems and technologies
• Provide regular summaries from this monitoring to the team lead
• Build and maintain a strong understanding of relevant trade links between key producing regions and consumer countries/regions of particular interest (e.g. EU, UK, US), through analysis of third-party reports, raw trade data and shipment records
• Keep abreast of wider policy and industry developments in key producer countries, including case studies of deforestation or rights abuses related to relevant commodities, general developments with forests and with government policy related to the impact of commodities on forests and other biomes
• Carry out additional desk research into chosen case studies, including by exploring shipment data, company reports and websites, satellite imagery, corporate records and trading websites, and holding remote meetings with relevant actors including researchers and activists in the countries concerned
• Assist in planning and carrying out field research on selected cases if needed
• Provide detailed reports of research findings for internal review
• Assist with turning research findings into published reports, analyses, policy messages and recommendations, films and other external outputs
• Assist with efforts to secure media coverage for reports, analyses and op-eds, including by helping draft press releases and brief journalists on details of research
• Support team lead in developing and implementing advocacy activities based on research findings and the organisation’s overall strategic goals, including by participating in meetings with policymakers, civil servants, NGOs and other key stakeholders

• At least three years’ paid experience working as a campaigner, researcher or journalist on environment, forests, climate change, human rights or a related field

ABOUT US

THE ROLE
The Contracts Manager will join our Operations team to represent the Woodland Trust locally, supporting a diverse portfolio of sites within North England, in line with the Trust’s standards and ensuring the safety of our colleagues, visitors, contractors and volunteers. It shall be the Contracts Manager’s responsibility to support Site Managers’ in the preparation and delivery of grant applications, operational contracts and projects including silvicultural operations. 

The Contracts Manager will initiate, develop and project manage new innovative projects within and across the woodlands, working with external partner and a cross-departmental team of foresters, people engagement specialists, communications specialists and funders.

They will identify opportunities to streamline services, develop our contractor base and maximise the income and grant aid potential of work programmes. They are responsible for ensuring that all necessary agreements, mitigations and consents are in place in preparation for the delivery of contracts and in accordance with all Woodland Trust Health and Safety policies and procedures.

A company car will be provided with this role.

THE CANDIDATE
With previous experience in land-based management in the forestry, woodland management, or nature conservation sector, you’ll have experience in writing and reviewing site management plans, budget and contract management, and Health and Safety management. You’ll have experience in the writing and delivery grant schemes across woodland creation and for specifying, instructing, and supervising woodland management operations. You’ll be experienced in planning, monitoring, and delivering multi-disciplinary projects to time and to budget and in engaging with contractors and suppliers on pricing, implementation, and delivery.

You must have a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude, excellent communication skills, be commercially aware and able to build effective partnerships internally and externally.  You’ll have experience engaging with external stakeholders, communities and volunteers with a collaborative approach. A working knowledge of the operational, ie Forest Works Management of woodlands would be desirable.

A full driving licence is a must have, along with the ability to undertake travel across a wide area, sometimes to remote locations.  Occasional overnight stays will be required and you will be expected to live in the region and within easy reach of key sites in North England.

Business Development Manager – Environmental Markets

This role will develop that connection in the fast moving sector of Nature Finance, Business Development and Nature Based Solutions working with others who are creatively and systematically looking for solutions which will connect Surrey’s wildlife at a landscape level.

We are building an innovative new team focused on county wide recovery and green finance investment within the county of Surrey. This role will also manage the Trust’s internal and external processes around Nature (green) Finance and drive forward investment in nature at a landscape level.  

As a senior role reporting into the Director of Business Development and Partnerships; practical experience of green finance including biodiversity net gain is essential; experience will also need to include demonstrable examples of project managing medium/large scale projects, contract management, financial analysis and working in a fast paced environment.

Our challenge is to restore Surrey’s nature and maximise climate adaptation and resilience following Lawton’s approach for a bigger, better, more joined up ecological network.  We will do this both on our own land holding and by working with other landowners and managers in partnership as we strive towards a target of 30% of land connected and protected for nature by 2030.  We have the opportunity to embed a zero carbon, nature-based solution approach within economic recovery and landowner decision-making.

Visitor Experience Manager
Location: Slimbridge
Salary: £34,405 per annum

This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, working 5 days out of 7 including weekends and bank holidays.

Slimbridge Wetland Centre is looking for a Visitor Experience Manager to lead both our paid and volunteer teams, champion cross departmental working and achieve an inspiring and engaging visitor experience.

Working with the General Manager, you will ensure that visitor experience is at the forefront of everything we do, including how we engage with our visitors before, during and after their visit.

As our Visitor Experience Manager, you will lead and support our Learning, Engagement & Events, Visitor Services and Administration teams. You are responsible for conveying a warm welcome at the admissions desk and the business reception, delivering events & engagement programmes throughout the centre and overseeing formal learning, and the Scott House Museum.

You will also act as duty manager on a rota basis ensuring the smooth operation of day-to-day activities within the centre, communicating to all on site the expectations of the day.

About the Role

Did you know that one-third of the RSPB's income comes from memberships? Our members are the backbone of our work, providing essential support through their generous donations which helps us in our efforts to give nature the home it deserves.

Through your studies/coaching and mentorship you will learn to engage in meaningful conversations to highlight the benefits of becoming an RSPB member and showcase how their contributions make a significant impact on our conservation efforts. The role will involve working 3 out of 4 weekends.

Responsibilities:

• Each day you will travel to different venues in your RSPB van, set up an attractive fundraising stand, and spend the day actively engaging with members of the public, spreading awareness about our conservation efforts and generating new RSPB memberships via direct debits.
• You will attend regular meetings with your Area Manager and regional Teams and either virtually or on occasions in person. You will undertake your course virtually.
• You will have 6 hours per week dedicated to study, which would be in addition to your development day where you will undertake training and development to further support you in your role.

• Driver's license valid for use in the UK.
• Willingness to work 3 out of 4 weekends.
• Ability to work outdoors and independently - One day you could be outside a store on the Highstreets, the next at one of our reserves. Wherever you will be working for the day you will have 4 weeks’ notice in advance. Initially you will be teamed up with a buddy but eventually you will work alone.
• GCSC (English and Math's) – preferable. If not, you will be expected to do an additional functional skills element to your apprenticeship.
