We are looking a practical, passionate and nurturing person to join our Community & Engagement team as our Youth Officer. In this role you will cultivate a supportive community of youth leaders and young volunteers, and run workshops for schools and youth groups. You will help 11-24 year olds to develop their knowledge, skills and passion for nature, and fight against climate and eco-anxiety through an inspiring nature restoration project. This role is partly funded by the Natural Heritage Lottery Fund, through a project run in partnership with Action for Conservation.
If you have strong ecology and land-based skills, the ability to create and hold inclusive and welcoming spaces for young people, and believe in putting young people at the heart of the conservation sector, we want to hear from you. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and cultures. We also have robust child safeguarding policies, and this role requires two work references and an enhanced DBS check.

Insects pollinate £690 million worth of crops in the UK annually, with wild pollinators carrying out 85-95% of this. Many species of bee, moth, butterfly, hoverfly, fly and beetle provide this essential service. Despite this, the steep decline of pollinating insects, and the loss of the habitats that support them, are well documented. One terrifying example is the loss of 97% of UK wildflower meadows since the 1930s.
There is a commitment in Avon Wildlife Trust and partner organisations in the West of England to halt and reverse these losses, with an ambition to become the UK’s Bee & Pollinator Capital. As the Pollinator Recovery Manager, you will be key in reaching these goals.
The initial project focuses on the West Mendips, between AWT’s reserves of Folly Farm and Browne’s Folly. You and your team will work with farmers, landowners and communities to grow the network of habitats between these reserves. To ensure climate resilience, you will work on a variety of priority habitats including grasslands, hedgerows, in-filed trees and carry out improvements to woodland edges, all of which are key to the survival of pollinating species.
As the Pollinator Recovery Manager you will:
· Lead and grow your team and portfolio of projects, offering advice and support to farmers, landowners and communities who want to help native insect pollinators.
· Develop and deliver inspiring events that raise awareness, conduct research, and create habitats on the ground.
· Champion the needs of pollinators in strategic partnerships and work with expert partners, such as BugLife, to monitor sites and explore how climate change affects pollinators and the habitats they rely on.
We want to see nature restored on a grand scale across the Avon region. We have big plans between now and 2030 to see this happen.

Leading our work with trusts and corporate partners, you’ll play an important part in protecting and restoring UK wildlife, while advancing your fundraising career in the fast-growing ‘nature and climate’ space.
The NBN Trust is a nature charity with a difference. Our mission is making data work for nature. “Data??? That’s a bit niche!”, I hear you say. And you’re right – but it’s a vitally important niche. The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth and, if we’re to stand any hope of fixing it, we’re going to need data. Lots of data. “What gets measured gets done”, as the saying goes. We need to understand what we’ve lost and what remains. We need to set targets for nature’s recovery. And we need to measure success as nature turns the corner and starts to make a comeback.
That’s where the NBN Trust comes in. We support the entire UK conservation movement by providing public access to the wildlife data that’s needed to make good decisions for nature. We’re a conservation charity, tech charity and people charity rolled into one – a unique combination! This gives us novel opportunities for fundraising, and we’re excited to be recruiting our first ever dedicated fundraiser, to develop and lead a programme of innovative partnerships with corporate supporters, trusts and foundations. Could this be your next career move?
Working closely with our CEO and our leadership team, you’ll be responsible for:
· Initiating, developing and maintaining high-value relationships with new and potential funders, including trusts, foundations and corporate partners.
· Creating high-quality proposals and grant bids that address our strategic priorities.
· Managing an ambitious fundraising pipeline.
· Helping to build a strong fundraising culture and ethos across the organisation.
We’re a 100% remote-working charity, so you’ll need to be comfortable and effective working from home. The whole team meets up four times a year for in-person team meetings (in London and other locations around the UK). In this role, you’ll also travel to some face-to-face meetings and events with funders and partners.
We’re an equal opportunities and Living Wage employer. We welcome all applicants, and we're striving to create an inclusive and diverse team. If you’re interested in joining us, please see the job pack on our website and get in touch if there’s anything you’d like to ask.

Contract type: Fixed Term until the end of March 2024, possible extension
Working hours: Full time
Location: Callow Rock, Shipham Gorge, Cheddar, with opportunities for hybrid working

As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) sixth assessment report laid out in March 2023, we are now on the brink of irrevocable damage from climate change; this is our ‘final warning’ and the time is now for action to address this crisis.
The report highlighted that restoring nature was one of the key actions needed to address this issue. Somerset Wildlife Trust (SWT) are at the forefront of this work in Somerset, and fully committed to this path through our Wilder Somerset 2030 Strategy and to delivering a vision whereby we reverse biodiversity loss and tackle the climate crisis.
Come and join the team to make a real difference.

The Climate Change Adaptation Assistant's role is to support the delivery and embedding of SWT’s climate adaptation work in Somerset, building on the Co-Adapt Adapting the Levels project. This work helps to protect our fabulous wildlife and landscapes as well as local communities, using nature-based and natural process solutions to manage water, heat and wildfire that will help map a positive future for Somerset in the era of Climate Change.
Key outputs for the project will be:
- Co-creating Climate Adaptation Plans with communities across Somerset including the coast
- Inputting a climate focus and RAD (Resist, Accept, Direct) approach with project focus areas (such as the Adapting the Levels Landscape Recovery project in the Brue Valley)
- Climate adaptation support for Agriculture on the Somerset Levels and Moors – supporting the Moor Association project.
- The management of priority habitats, identifying triggers for ecological transformation and mapping options
Community engagement and consensus-based solutions approaches are major elements of the role. The role will also include a large degree of partnership working and liaison with technical experts in the Climate Change Adaptation Pathways and RAD approaches.
