The Opportunity
The Business Development Director will have strategic responsibility for income and growth, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to maximise business opportunities. You will lead development of key partnerships with new and existing stakeholders, commercialisation of services, and lead the communications and marketing strategy. The post holder will lead the Business Development Team, developing collaborative partnerships and leadership as part of the SLT and by supporting the Leeds Mind Board of Trustees. In collaboration with CEO and SLT, you will inform the strategic direction and deliver against key performance indicators in creating a progressive and agile culture. You will lead the implementation and development of income generation, developing and implementing strategies to drive all income streams to drive growth. You will develop a pipeline to maximise income from corporate partnerships, (including training), whilst looking at diversifying the portfolio to generate new business
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience/success in a leadership role in Charity Income Generation and sustainable business development

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, unlike NHS emergency services, is a charity. This free life-saving service is provided 24/7 by helicopters and rapid response vehicles.
Each critical care team consists of a pilot and co-pilot, a pre-hospital care doctor and a critical care paramedic.
They can be rushed to the scene with life-saving support equipment to deliver advanced clinical care, usually only in the hospital emergency department.
Once stabilised, the patient will be conveyed to the most appropriate hospital by air or land.

About the role
This role is responsible for managing and developing the charity’s portfolio of Trusts and Foundations, securing significant gifts and growing the long-term potential of this portfolio (target for 2024 is £378,000). Inspiring them to support kidney patients across the UK and engage with the kidney community, enabling them to tell their stories and better communicate how larger Trust grants can make a real difference for people with chronic kidney disease.
A dynamic, self-motivated, ambitious and pro-active fundraiser is required for this role, demonstrating enthusiasm for the projects and services we are seeking funds to support.
About you
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience and a proven track record of successful income generation and delivering against targets.
You will have demonstratable experience in researching potential Trust funders, submitting compelling proposals, securing funding and project managing successful bids through to completion of the grant award.
You will also have a background in report writing and demonstrating grant impact whilst being able to build relationships with funders, individual/major donors and senior stakeholders.
Experience of providing excellent supporter care, building mutually beneficial long-term relationships with funders is a must for this role.
Key responsibilities
Research and process management
• Work closely with our Director of Patient Support Services (Patient Grants, Hospital Grants, Advocacy and Counselling) to fully understand our work, and with our Director of Finance to fully understand the costs of delivering our work
• Build strong cases for support, ensuring that you have all the information needed to create compelling proposals and reports for high and mid-value funders

Fundraising
• Identify and manage a pipeline of high-value prospects and opportunities which have the potential of delivering five and six figure grants
• Work with colleagues across Kidney Care UK to develop and submit high-value and high-quality Trust and Foundation bids for a range short, medium and long term projects
• Develop relationships with the Senior Management Team and other key stakeholders across the charity maximising every opportunity for cultivation and development
• Plan and organise opportunities for funders to view Kidney Care UK’s work first-hand, ensuring all safeguarding procedures are followed and met.
Reporting
• Compile comprehensive and compelling progress reports to feed back to grant makers in a timely fashion and incentivise continued support
• Alongside the Director of Finance prepare accurate budgets detailing spending of specific grants
• Draw down on any multi-year grants as outlined in our annual budget
• Provide briefing notes and income pipeline on donor activities and potential funding opportunities.

This is a critical role supporting the Chief Innovation, Income and Engagement Officer, Executive Director of Policy & Research and Chief Medical Officer, which will enable them to make the best of use of their time to achieve the biggest difference for people at the end of life.
Based up to three days in our new London office, working with multiple teams and external stakeholders this an exciting and varied role. Working at a fast pace, you will be proactive and efficient always ten steps ahead of events as they unfold. You will be able to adapt your working style to support the different needs of each Director and build strong professional relationships at all levels.
You will be someone who thrives on being busy, never knowing what they will be tasked with next. All in all, a thoroughly organised, personable, confident individual with a can-do attitude whilst demonstrating resilience under pressure. You will lead by example and provide discreet, efficient and responsive administrative, organisational, and logistical support to the respective members of the Executive Leadership team, as a trusted partner.
What we are looking for:
- Highly developed time management, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate respective ELT Directors and business needs, by staying one step ahead.
- Ability to liaise with people at all levels in a highly professional and warm manner, demonstrating professionalism and diplomacy.
- Strong business acumen and gravitas, with enthusiasm to deliver a high quality and effective service and proven experience and ability to deliver excellent customer care and valuing diversity.
- High level of discretion while dealing with confidential information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database systems
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work autonomously, exercising good initiative and judgement.
- A strong team player who is focused on collaboration and building effective and lasting working relationships with the ability to demonstrate empathy and tact with colleagues at all levels.
