Information and Advice Adviser
Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week or 2 part time roles. We are open to flexible working discussions.
Salary: £28,000 - £31,500 per year
Location: This role will be based at our Elmwood Road Centre in Mitcham, with regular travel across the Borough of Merton.
After training and development, and after successful completion of the probationary period, there may be an option for hybrid working.
Reports to: This role reports to our Information and Advice Manager and is part of the wider Age UK Merton Community Support team.
About the role
We are recruiting an Information & Advice Adviser who will be joining a progressive, inclusive and dynamic team, an integral part of our Community Support model, and wider Age UK Merton services.
The Information & Advice Adviser is a vital role that works directly with older people who come to the service seeking information and advice on pension age benefits.
Last year the service worked to support over 800 older adults with information and advice on benefits, health, housing and care, and assisted the uptake of nearly £400,000 of previously unclaimed benefits.
An important part of this role will be to triage initial client needs which have been referred into the service by both internal and external partners, this will then ensure the team provides the right advice and high-quality support, whether on the phone, email or face to face.
You will be joining an accredited advice service (with the Advice Quality Standard), delivered by a high calibre team and you will be given opportunities to train and develop in the role.
About you
You are an enthusiastic, motivated and organised person with excellent people skills who is looking for a role where real impact is made on the lives of the people you are supporting. You will need to have attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills to support the complex and diverse range of issues that our clients face.
Experience in the information and advice sector is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. What is important is your ability to work as part of a team but also using your initiative, being flexible and collaborative across the team at Age UK Merton. Salary: DP4 pay scale £24,700 - £26,870
Hours: 21 Hours - 35 hours per week for various posts.
Contract: Start date is June 1st 2024, and end date is May 31st 2027 with potential for an additional two year extension.

The Women’s Budget Group (WBG) is the UK’s leading feminist economics think tank, providing evidence on women’s economic position and proposing policy alternatives for a gender-equal economy.

In the event that the shorter working week does not become permanent, hours will be negotiable between 30 hours and 37.5 hours per week. We are happy to consider flexible working arrangements and invite job share applications. Some out of hours working will be required for which TOIL will be given.
Location: Hybrid London / remote. The postholder must be resident in the UK with the right to work in the UK. Office is in Vauxhall, London. Post can be worked as office based or a mixture of office/remote working with at least two days per week in the office.
Duration: 18 month contract with potential to extend subject to funding.
Salary: £36,288 pro-rata (£29,030 for 30 hours) plus 5% pension contributions.
Line management: Reports to the Head of Communications and Public Affairs

In October 2022 Salford City Council commissioned Salford CVS to undertake research into the strengths of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as part of their Joint Needs and Strengths Assessment.
Every three years since 2008, Salford CVS leads on State of the VCSE Sector research in Salford and also across Greater Manchester. Working with other local infrastructure organisations, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the VCSE sector. Our last research report was published in 2021 and we have started planning for the research to be conducted this year.
In August 2023 we further developed our VCSE sector research and insight work with the commencement of our Salford 99 longitudinal study. This research project is designed to understand the issues affecting the VCSE sector in Salford and aims to track 99 VCSE organisations every six months for a three-year period, so that we gain ‘live’ insight in between our three-yearly State of the VCSE sector large research project. Alongside this work we conduct a Pulse Check survey with a variety of VCSE organisations to get a snapshot of what is changing for them each quarter.
This exciting VCS Research and Insight role involves a combination of VCSE engagement and insight work across Salford.
