Part-Time Social Welfare Jobs

As an Employment Coach with our Employcare Project you will be supporting unpaid carers living in Manchester; providing support and coaching in order for them to re-enter paid employment or voluntary roles.  The successful candidates will manage a small caseload of carers and provide them with 1:1 support, helping them overcome barriers to employment and training.  You will be responsible for supporting them through every stage of their journey, enabling participants to address their barriers and realise their aspirations.

This role is subject to a Basic DBS check.

Why Access Social Care Exists

Everyday millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us, we will all need social care at some point.

We all have a right to hold public bodies to account. But most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 77% drop in community care legal aid cases since 2010 means we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken.

Access Social Care provides free legal advice and information for people with social care needs, helping achieve a better quality of life. We work with communities to increase knowledge of the law and our rights. We highlight the gap left by cuts to Legal Aid and provide advice for those who can’t afford it.

With a 98% success rate, our network of lawyers and barristers ensure fair access to justice when things go wrong. We collaborate with social services whilst ensuring legal obligations are met. About the role

This is an exciting time to join our organisation. We have a new strategy and are growing quickly including across our senior leadership team. We have nearly tripled in size and income since we started operating in April 2020 and we anticipate that this strong growth will continue for the duration of our next strategic period. Access Social Care are an organisation of thirty-six people, and this is a new role in the People team coming at a period of growth to drive a thriving charity and help shape its future.

This is a fast-paced role whose emphasis is on policy / process / systems improvement as well as advising colleagues and managers across the organisation regarding all aspects of the employee lifecycle. You will work with people at all levels of the organisation supporting the People Director on strategy work streams as the organisation continues to grow and evolve.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all day-to-day HR processes within the employee lifecycle to ensure staff are supported appropriately and legislative responsibilities are fulfilled
• Work alongside the People Director to map or review processes across the employee lifecycle, identify blockers and seek to implement solutions that create efficiency and clarity 
• Advise on employee relations and discuss complex or sensitive cases with the People Director to decide the best course of action, ensuring that cases are resolved in a timely manner or be a trusted advisor to our managers with their people challenges
• Coordinate the delivery of projects, process and policy improvements as defined and prioritised within the People Plan, leading on workstreams as outlined by the People Director
• Support the People Director in sourcing training and learning solutions, and evaluating training
• Provide practical upskilling and training to managers and employees in HR practices and policy
• Coordinate recruitment efforts at Access Social Care, ensuring compliance with employment laws and providing guidance to managers. Manage the recruitment cycle and administration process from job ads to onboarding
• Support staff engagement activities across Access Social Care in conjunction with the People Director. These may include but are not limited to the following initiatives: staff survey coordination, and wellbeing events
• To be a super user and actively promote the use of the HRIS system (Bright HR) and ensure that electronic staffing records are updated and maintained accurately in accordance with GDPR
• Dealing with cyclical and ad-hoc data reporting and requests for information including data analysis
• Contribute to effective payroll administration ensuing information is shared with the Finance Officer in a timely manner, and collaborating with the People Director to address and rectify any issues and process improvements
• Work within the parameters of GDPR, ensuring data and information is protected and handled correctly

Context of the role.

The successful candidate will be guided by the Communications & Fundraising Officer to communicate the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers and demonstrate the impact of Upbeat Communities to our supporters and followers, as well as to new audiences. They will have a positive attitude and love communicating what we do as a charity.

The role can mostly be done remotely; however, it will be required for the candidate to travel to our base in Derby a minimum of 1 day a week to stay connected to the team, and for team meetings and training as and when they occur.

For Age UK Westminster, the Befriending Service is one of its most important services tackling loneliness and isolation for older people in our community. This role would suit anyone who would like to play a key part in further developing a well-established service that makes a real difference to its community.

We are working with One Small Thing, who are looking for an experienced Finance Assistant to join their busy, collaborative team. Initially part time this role could grow to full time as the organisation expands.

Role outline and purpose  

Ensuring the delivery of The Trussell Trust’s vision to end the need for food banks in the UK by developing an in-depth understanding of Trussell Trust food banks in their area and using coaching and assist to build and hold productive relationships to:

· Develop and execute a strategic plan for reducing the need for food banks’ services locally.

· Work alongside local partners to increase public will for long-term solutions to end the need for food banks.

· Develop and manage strategic relationships with key stakeholders to assist evidenced-based policy change at a local level and feed into activity to drive policy and practice at UK wide and national levels.

Role responsibilities 

· Assisting trustees, staff and volunteers within food banks to develop their plans to end the need for their services locally through the strategic key areas of operations, volunteering, data, participation, church engagement, governance and stability, financial inclusion, stakeholder engagement, local influencing, referral pathways and signposting.

· Assist food banks to operate in a safe, legal and dignified manner (through calls, visits, training, meeting facilitation and our risk management and self-assessment processes) and assist the facilitation of good practice within the network and wider organisation (through cluster meetings, regional forums, road shows, webinars, peer support and internal meetings).

· Contribute to the development and promotion of support available to food banks through the Trussell Trust (including use of the digital hub, toolkits, partnerships and expert advice) and assist food banks with grant application processes, as required.

Main Responsibilities

1. Serving customers, dealing with enquiries, arranging delivery when necessary
2. Processing cash, card and other customer payments 
3. Arranging for approved donations of furniture to be collected
4. Handling product returns and payment refund requests
5. Helping with movement, inventory and presentation of stock in the warehouse
6. To assist in the movement of stock by road transport, including van driving. 
7. To assist and support new volunteers as directed. Ensure that volunteers understand the customer service standards that we aspire to as an organisation
8. To follow all statutory Health and Safety requirements and those detailed in the organisation’s Health and Safety policy and risk assessments
9. Work flexibly and to be prepared to contribute to all areas of work in the organisation
10. Collect and share feedback from volunteers, work placement trainees, donors and customers with the CEO
11. To undertake any other reasonable tasks as deemed necessary by the CEO

About the role

The Finance Assistant provides support to the Director of Finance and Operations in the work of a fast moving and agile organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Processing of grant payments, purchase invoices and expenses, including confirming authorisation, correct allocation to budget and ensuring adherence to internal controls
• Maintaining cashbook and ensuring the correct allocation of income
• Undertaking monthly bank reconciliations of multiple bank accounts and assisting with other reconciliations and month end duties as required
• Supporting fundraising campaigns as required
• Administration relating to online donations, including reconciling donor reporting between systems

About you

We are looking for someone who has an eye for detail, and excels in being accurate and ensuring tasks are complete and followed up as necessary.

You will be able to assess and interpret data and communicate clearly through excellent written and verbal skills whilst also being able to establish good relationships, and provide quality customer service both internally and externally

Good IT, writing and teamwork skills are a key part of this role, as is the ability to follow policy and procedure. It is a busy role that will have many competing deadlines so the ability to prioritise and multi-task is also key.

The Weir Link – a small and vibrant charity and community centre in SW12 (Clapham Park/Balham), are recruiting a Facilities and Bookings Co-ordinator to join their team.  This would be an excellent opportunity for an experienced administrator, looking for flexible, part time work, while making a tangible difference to their local community.  

Working in close collaboration with other members of the team, some examples of the role responsibilities include:

Facilities co-ordinator

- Liaise with cleaning, maintenance and building safety contractors to ensure the Centre is kept in a safe and orderly condition for all our users

- Organise regular testing of building safety systems, including the fire alarm system and fire drills

- General housekeeping duties, including managing utility companies, logging meter readings and ensuring records are kept updated

- Ensure the overall appearance of The Weir Link, both inside and outside, is in keeping with our vision to be a welcoming centre for everyone in our community

Bookings co-ordinator

- Manage our growing number of bookings and activities, both those at The Weir Link and other venues we may work with, from responding to enquiries in a timely manner, checking and updating The Weir Link diary, sending booking forms and invoices, checking payments and responding to feedback

- Manage attendance levels and data collection for those attending all The Weir Link’s activities

- Assist with the marketing and publicity of the activities and room(s) available by helping to produce content for our social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook), and updating our website

Person specification

We are looking for a motivated, organised and reliable individual with a “hands on” approach to these responsibilities, and other activities when required.  The successful candidate will be flexible, resourceful, efficient and committed to contributing in a meaningful way to our local community. 

Some experience which would set you up for success in this role, could include a background in managing facilities or venue organisation and/ or some finance or  marketing administration experience. 

Key skills required:

- Competent using the Microsoft Office suite – particularly Word and Excel

- Competent and experienced using Google software, specifically Google Calendar and Google Forms

- Confident communicating clearly and effectively by email

- Experienced with standard office practices, including printing and scanning documents

- Some professional experience in (or interest in developing skills in) the use of social media platforms and digital content and website (CMS) management (including producing and editing images, writing captions and scheduling posts using social media management tools like Hootsuite and updating our website using Squarespace) would be preferred.

We are able to offer a flexible working pattern, which would comprise of 12-15 hours per week across three days a week. This would ideally be a Monday and then two further consecutive days, however this can be discussed for the right candidate. The hours can be between 9.30 and 4pm every day, with the possibility of hybrid working (combining office-based and remote working) during the school holidays.

This role would suit a parent or carer who would like their hours to work around the school day and have flexibility during school holidays. 

Ideally the person would also be a local resident who is prepared to build on our links with other community organisations that are local to The Weir Link.

Location: York Crown and Magistrates Court, with regular travel to Scarborough and Harrogate.

The Role

As the Deputy Team Leader (Court Services), working alongside Team Leaders you will be responsible for the delivery of the Witness Service within your court/s. 

You will share responsibility for the effective coordination and development of volunteers who support witnesses in their journey through the criminal justice system.

You willbe responsible for general service administrative tasks within the courts, as well as inputting service data.
