We’re a thriving advice organisation that is part of the national Citizens Advice network. We provide information, advice and casework support to around 10,000 people a year. Our services are delivered by a team of around 40 paid staff and 60 volunteers. Supported by existing project funding and a long-term grant from the Access to Justice Foundation, we’re looking for two people to join our Senior Management Team and help lead the next phase of our innovative and award-winning development work. The Head of Core Service and Head of Community Partnerships will work together to:

• Continue developing our approach to community engagement, helping reduce access barriers for people from the most marginalised communities.
• Embed changes to our core service that make it more accessible and responsive to those communities.

Both roles also have overall responsibility for a range of funded projects and services and, as leaders and managers, responsibility for:

• Ensuring we live up to our values, standards and ambitions.
• Managing contracts and relationships with funders, partners and other stakeholders.
• Developing organisational strategy and identifying new funding and partnership opportunities.

With a focus on operational compliance and core delivery, the Head of Core Service role would suit applicants with a strong track record of managing advice services, ideally within the Citizens Advice network. Elders Voice is a local charity serving older people in Brent. We are recruiting a CEO to lead our talented and experienced staff team through a period of change to ensure our financial security.

Elders Voice is an established and trusted charity in the heart of Kensal Green. Lead Counsellor (Full-Time)

Reporting to the Project Director, the Lead Counsellor will be leading a team of up to 10 counsellors, overseeing the counselling service of the Ethnic Minority Well-being Centre, an initiative of the HKSAR Government.

The selected candidate will benefit from working in the collaborative and professional environment of a fast-growing Hong Kong NGO, engaging with a group of global mental health advisors as well as contributing to the betterment of Hong Kong community’s ethnic minority population.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the Ethnic Minority Well-Being Centre’s cases, protocols, supervision, administration and capacity building, including but not limited to the following:

• Oversee all cases accepted by the Ethnic Minority Well-being Centre and ensure the counselling team are conducting counselling treatments according to the standard practices and protocols of the Centre.

• Work with Project Manager to manage screening and intake of all cases, and assign cases to appropriate counsellors

• Work with Counsellors to manage risk assessments and the case follow-up process with clients, and filing of these notes.

• Work closely with Senior Management on managing protocols around potential clients and  clients with suicidal risks

• Provide supervision to the counsellor team

• Provide direct counselling to clients

• Review and enhance service protocols as necessary

• Provide necessary information of counselling cases for reporting purpose to stakeholders and funder

• Develop content and deliver talks, including capacity building training, for social workers, mental health professionals, teachers, NGO staff and other stakeholders

• Lead Counsellor will also be expected to be under supervision by an external experienced counsellor and should meet the supervisor once every month

The individual MUST:

• Be a registered clinical psychologist recognized by one of the following organisations:

  • Hong Kong – Hong Kong Institute of Clinical Psychologists; Hong Kong Psychological Society

  • Australia - Australia Psychology Accreditation Council

  • Canada - Canadian Psychological Association

  • UK - Health and Care Professional Council

  • USA - American Psychological Association

• Be a master degree holder in counselling/clinical psychology or relevant subject discipline;

• Native in English (speaking and writing) and near native (speaking fluently) in at least one of the following languages, Hindi or Urdu, with additional languages such as Pashto, Punjabi or Nepali an advantage.

• At least 10 years of experience in direct psychotherapy/ counselling service delivery and at least 3 years of experience in providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

• Experience of working with target clientele (ethnically Indian, Pakistani, Nepali and Filipino clients) with preference to individual with Hong Kong experience

Strategy and Operations

1. Develop, implement, and lead execution of the charity's annual operational plan and 3-year strategic plan.

2. Identify appropriate level of staffing, volunteering, ensuring that all staff and volunteers are appropriately interviewed, vetted, inducted, trained, developed, and supported to deliver against their objectives.

Finance and Fundraising

10. Develop, implement, and lead charity’s financial and fundraising planning and management, ensuring that the charity operates at least at break-even, ideally with a small surplus.

11. Ensure that the charity has a diverse range of income across various streams, inclusive of (but not limited to) public sector, trusts and foundations, corporate income, events, and online giving.

12. Ensure that the charity is receiving value for money with all expenditure, ensuring contract review on a timely basis as appropriate.

As the Director of SPCA you will lead and guide a highly skilled and motivated team to make the SPCA a community hub and a centre of excellence which has a positive impact on the lives of local residents.

The governance of SPCA is overseen by a Board of Trustees. The Director will report directly to this Board and work closely with Board members.

Key responsibilities

• To build strong relationships with members of the local community, community groups, representatives and service providers to ensure that strategies and services are based on an understanding of the community’s needs and the contribution that SPCA is best placed to make as part of the of the range of local support services.

• To develop and deliver a business plan based on a financially sustainable strategic vision and which maximises the use of existing and emerging funding and income generation sources and opportunities.

• To provide a caring and highly supportive working environment which enables all staff and partners to fully contribute their skills, knowledge and perspectives.

• To manage, plan and monitor budgets to ensure the continuing financial sustainability of the Centre and to work with the Treasurer to ensure that the Centre is operating effective, and compliant accounting practices, policies and procedures.

• To ensure that SPCA fulfils its legal and procedural obligations under relevant legislation.

• To maintain an effective and transparent working relationship with the Board of Trustees to

  ensure that Trustees are kept informed of opportunities, threats and challenges and are fully involved in decision making.

  Main tasks

• Overseeing all fundraising activities from trusts, the local authority, local businesses and the community.

• Overseeing the development and implementation of an income generation strategy that includes maintaining and securing funding from statutory bodies, charitable trusts and any other relevant agencies/organisations and delivering charged services.

• Forming collaborative partnerships with organisations and agencies from all sectors that can be developed into services and business ventures

• Line managing key staff and ensuring that effective line managing processes are in place for other staff and volunteers. The postholder will directly line manage approximately xxx staff.

• Holding monthly staff meetings where everyone is heard and respected

• Ensuring all employees receive appropriate line management, where issues and problems

  that arise are handled with sensitivity and a high priority is given to staff development.

• Overseeing the recruitment and induction of new staff in accordance with the SPCA’s Equal Opportunities.

• Ensuring arrangements are in place for the systematic collection and review of employees opinions and the opinions of service users and potential users

• Ensuring effective systems are in place for monitoring and evaluating project performance.

• Attending meetings of the Board of Trustees as appropriate.

About the organisation

The organisational motto is 'the same rights, different needs'. This charity believes that every individual has the right to access services available to them. They help services to understand that every individual is just that, an individual who has varying levels of support needs. They advocate for fair and just treatment for communities facing racial inequalities. The organisation was set up specifically to meet the needs of the racialised and immigrant communities in Liverpool's L8.

In 2022/23, their services supported over 600 individuals and families across Liverpool, including an increase in newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees needing to access services. While the organisation wants to remain responsive to the prevailing needs of a changing community, they also want to ensure that they stay true to the origins of the organisation in tackling the gross inequities faced to this present day, predominantly by Black people in the mental health system.

About the role

The overarching aim is to stabilise and strengthen the organisation, with a view to attracting and retaining a strong candidate for the permanent CEO role.

The Board will work with the interim CEO to deliver the following short-medium term objectives:

• Provide clear leadership, direction and stability for the organisation, staff team and service users.
• Create an interim strategy and lay the groundwork for the permanent CEO to develop a comprehensive 3-5 year strategy.
• Agree annual business plan objectives to deliver against strategic plan.
• Review the systems, processes and staffing which underpin the organisation, looking for opportunities to improve, develop and renew.
• Work closely with the board to establish and roll out sustainable systems for sound governance.

About you

You understand the social determinants of mental health and the inequalities and injustices faced by Black and racialised people within the mental health system.

You're a self-starter with a track record of successful leadership track-record, ideally with interim experience although this isn't essential.

You're experienced in navigating and supporting teams through organisational change

You create inclusive and culturally sensitive environments and lead from a place of integrity and authenticity.

Westway Trust is seeking a qualified accountant to join as our Head of Finance who will lead on all aspects of the finance function to achieve the Trusts goals.  You will also manage a small team and will offer strategic finance support across the range of activities undertaken by the organisation.

You will have significant experience operating at a senior level within a complex organisation and registered charity, and will possess the right blend and balance of strategic, communication, innovation and people skills.

Key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:

• Lead, manage and improve the Trust’s finance function and provide accurate, timely and relevant financial reports as required by the CEO, Executive Team and the Trust Board.
• Be the Executive Lead of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee, ensuring timely papers to the CEO and to the Committee and Board as required and liaising with the Head of Governance and HR as required.
• Ensure the provision and reporting of financial accounts, forecasting and large-scale project/programme budgets, estate development plans, and the associated reporting.
• Oversight of the legal and financial statutory processes in line with the Charity Commission and Companies House requirements, including the Annual Audit. Allocating tasks for timely responses and keeping all colleagues abreast of progress.
• Monitor, cash flow, reserves, analysis of performance against the organisation’s annual business plan and dashboard as it relates to the finance function.
• Contribute to the overall leadership of the Trust and to the Trust’s future strategic and operational planning. Support Executive Team colleagues as required on the delivery of cross-team initiatives.
• Line management of the Senior Finance Manager, the Debt Recovery Consultant and the Development Partnerships Lead.

Essential Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• Significant and successful experience of operating as a Head of Finance, ideally in a charity setting.
• A track record of working collaboratively with a team to develop successful internal partnerships and achieve joint success against shared objectives.
• Experience of the finance function and all the associated processes, with strong attention to detail.
• Experience of implementing enhanced reporting tools within financial software, including the ability to coach others.
• Practical knowledge of VAT, including accounting of partial exemption relevant to charities.
• Experience of managing staff and supporting their development.
• Strong interpersonal skills for both workplace and external representation contexts, operating with enthusiasm, flexibility, energy and commitment and demonstrating credibility and gravitas.

Desirable Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• A good understanding of the local area.
• Experience of change management.
• Competency in use of Access Dimensions, Focal Point and other MS Office software packages.

Qualification:

• Must hold a formally recognised professional accounting qualification.

The Centre for Ageing Better launched the first ever campaign focusing on ageism in January 2024.

Ageism is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK. And it will impact us all at some point, particularly as we get older. Ageism affects how society sees older people: they’re often reduced to offensive stereotypes, patronised, or treated as a burden. And it even affects how we see ourselves. As the years progress, we start to believe what we read, see and hear, and come to think that we’re ‘past it’.

The Head of Ageism Campaign plays a key role in a small team responsible for planning and delivering a nationwide public-facing campaign to bring an end to ageism in England. The public-facing campaign is one strand of a wider ‘age-friendly’ social movement aimed to make people think, feel and act differently about ageing, which will work on a number of levels and with a range of different audiences.

Under the direction of the Director of Communications & Policy and with an expert external consultant, this role is responsible for planning, delivering, measuring and iterating campaign activities that lead to measurable changes in attitudes and behaviour amongst the public.

The campaign will position Ageing Better as a thought leader and expert on ageism in England and mobilise the public and stakeholders around key activity and campaign moments, working at a national, regional and local level.

The postholder will jointly manage a creative agency to deliver phase two of our mass marketing campaign, ‘always on’ activity, and a moment of collective action once a year for warm audiences and ambassadors for the campaign.

You will have excellent experience in campaigning techniques and communications, with first-class writing skills. You will understand how to influence the public and move people along a behaviour/attitude change journey.
