Chefs in Schools is a young, ambitious charity that’s rapidly growing. Our mission is to improve kids' health, through improving school food & food education. Working in areas of high deprivation, we support and train schools and their kitchen teams to serve the best, freshest and tastiest food possible, alongside meaningful food education. About you and the role

The purpose of this role is to lead on our finance strategy, and ensure all of our systems, reporting and processes are helping to drive forward the charity and deliver on our objectives at scale. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Directors to ensure that financial planning is effective and supported by accurate data analysis. You will report directly to Trustees as required and ensure that the highest standards of transparency and probity are maintained.

You will be joining the team during a period of growth in the size and complexity of our delivery. We currently have 20 employees and anticipate doubling in size within three years. You will have a crucial role in shaping our systems and processes to ensure we can scale effectively, both our existing programmes and a new membership-based programme that is in development. We’re looking for an experienced finance professional with an interest in effectively using technology and systems to drive efficiency, without compromising on accuracy or compliance.

You will support and mentor the Finance and Office Manager, ensuring that financial administration is carried out proficiently and in line with all legal and regulatory requirements, including ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all statutory filings are made accurately and on time. Your role will also encompass ensuring that we operate within legal & regulatory frameworks and stay up to date with changes in relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities:

• Developing a comprehensive financial strategy that supports the delivery of the charity’s objectives and activities

• Reviewing suitability of our current systems: Quickbooks for accountancy, Beacon CRM, PLEO for expenses management, Survey Monkey for data collection etc.

• Where necessary, identifying and implementing new software to ensure all systems and processes are robust, user friendly, deliver useful data analysis, integrate and/or improve automation

• Working closely with the Director of Transformations to translate the annual activity plan into an accurate organisational-level budget

• Advising the Chief Executive, team and Trustees, ensuring that benefits and risks of decisions are fully considered and fit with the overall financial strategy

• Oversee sound financial management and governance across the organisation

• Provide leadership and guidance to all things finance related, providing mentoring and support to the team

• Accountability for monitoring that the organisation’s services are, and will, run to budget, supporting budget holders and reporting promptly on risks

• Have ultimate oversight of the external audit and production of the statutory accounts, supported in delivery of this by the Finance & Office Manager

• Oversee production of management accounts and bespoke financial reports, including accurate forecasting, incisive analysis and accessible narrative commentary

• Support the Development team with financial submissions and other compliance areas (eg advising on and supporting with due diligence processes)

• Constantly seeking to develop and improve the organisation’s financial systems, policies and procedures to promote dynamic, best practice and up-to-date application of tools, systems and approaches

• Oversight of finance, governance and basic HR administration, supporting the Finance & Office Manager with high profile or complex queries, seeking specialist advice on financial or compliance matters as required

• Ensure the organisation’s compliance with charity law, in accordance with the Charity Commission in England & Wales

Skills & experience:

• You have interest and belief in our mission, to improve kids’ health through improving food and food education in schools

• You have full or partial qualification through an accredited accountancy body

• You have some experience in a senior finance role (eg Director, Head of, Management Accountant) in any sector, and some experience within a finance function in the 3rd sector (in particular familiarity with the Charity SORP and experience of administering restricted funds)

• You have experience of audit

• You enjoy a mix of leadership and rolling up sleeves to get hands on when the need arises

• You take a pragmatic and dynamic approach to robust financial management

• You can turn complex and dry data, into clear and engaging narrative

• You have project managed the implementation of new systems (accountancy / CRM / data)

• To provide a high-quality outreach support service that enables older adults with low level support needs to live independently within the community.

Training and Commercial Development Officer

About Galop 

Galop is the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity. Founded in 1982, we have been championing the needs and protecting the safety of the LGBT+ community for 40 years.

Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do. 

We run three national support helplines for LGBT+ victims and survivors of domestic abuse, so-called “conversion therapy”, and hate crime. We provide advocacy services, both in London and nationally, for LGBT+ victims who need longer-term support. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them, and then supporting them through their journey. 

We use what we learn through working on the frontlines with clients to work for national and local policy change to improve outcomes for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. We build evidence through key pieces of research, like our upcoming report into LGBT+ experiences of sexual violence. We push for legislative change, improved statutory guidance for victims, and better understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people around the country. 

About the Training and Commercial Development Officer Role 

This role will aid the diversification of Galop’s income generation through our specialist LGBT+ anti-violence education and commercial activities, ensuring the long-term stability of the charity and helping us to deliver support to as many LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse as possible. 

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver LGBT+ specialist change and development work, as well as generate income that allows us to meaningfully support the LGBT+ community.

In this role, you’ll work with our Training and Commercial Manager to identify relationship development opportunities, creatively approach learning needs across sectors, and deliver our training and commercial offer.

This is a pivotal moment in Galop’s journey. We have grown quickly over the last six years and you’ll be helping to create a culture of change by increasing knowledge of LGBT+ experiences of abuse and violence. 

As a by-and-for organisation, this role has a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010 that the post holder has experience of LGBT+ specialist needs and the impact of discrimination. Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of LGBT+ people’s lives, including awareness of the issues that LGBT+ survivors of abuse and violence might face. 

Location 

Galop’s offices are located in London. Hybrid working is available but the expectation is that you’ll be in the office two days a week. This role may require national travel for in-person trainings.

Cherry Lodge Cancer Care is an independent charity committed to improving the quality of life for people living with cancer, their carers, family, and friends.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Cancer Information Specialist Nurse, and are seeking an experienced, flexible, and dynamic NMC registered nurse to join our team. 

At Cherry Lodge, we work alongside the clinical care of the NHS in an area centred on Barnet and covering much of North London and South Hertfordshire. We are based at the very friendly and welcoming Cherry Lodge Centre, in Union Street, Chipping Barnet. We also have an Outreach Service with an impact across the borough of Barnet, concentrating particularly on providing information and support to members of black and minority ethnic groups. Our Befriending Service provides additional support for people in their own homes.

Job Purpose:

To act as a specialist information resource for the management of people with cancer, their carers, and families.

To co-ordinate, manage and develop the Cherry Lodge Cancer Care (CLCC) information service by providing assessment, information, support and signposting to people visiting and telephoning the centre. Oversight of interventions and therapies delivered, ensuring the person with cancer/carer/family experience of support feels seamless and is transparent.

To work proactively with primary and secondary care and voluntary sector partners to promote Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and build awareness of the support available for people living with and beyond cancer. This will include further developing relationships with local cancer care providers including the North London Hospice and North Central London Cancer Alliance.

Contribute to the coordination of the day-to-day running of therapy and complementary therapies delivered at CLCC,  including mentoring of junior staff and volunteers as necessary. Working in close partnership with the Volunteer Co-ordinator and Befriending Service Lead.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Information/Service Provision

To ensure people with cancer their carers and families/friends gain access to the information they require by providing the following services:

1. To provide one to one sessions where assessment and planning ensures people are able to discuss all information aspects of their illness (symptom management, treatment, and living with cancer).

2. Provide support, access to therapies and signposting to other local services and support services.

3. Provide appropriate psychological support throughout the cancer diagnosis, treatment and follow up pathway, as appropriate and identified by the person with cancer.

4. Facilitate and support nurse/therapy led groups

5. Act as the person with cancer’s advocate, particularly where informed discussion may affect care management options, by ensuring robust links with secondary care Clinical Specialist Nurses.

6. Deliver support, information, and education to promote self-care following a diagnosis, and reduce risks of future complications. Actively encourage a Health & Wellbeing, enabling approach.

7. Work closely with the Cancer Information Specialist Nurse (Outreach).

8. To maintain a comprehensive, accurate and up to date information resource, including a database of information about local and national services.

9. Maintain professional links and liaise with other units/centres to ensure continuity of care and support for patients throughout their care pathway.

10.  To use communication skills and empathy to impart information at all levels. To work with the Operations Manager to audit the service on a regular basis ensuring that feedback from users of the service is used to develop services further.

11.  Support and participate in service review and ongoing development of nurse/therapy led services.

12.  Ensure clear and concise records are documented ensuring effective communication observing NMC guidance for records and records keeping.

13.  To provide information by telephone and respond to written requests for information.

Managerial and Leadership responsibilities

1. Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care and providing leadership to all staff in the Cherry Lodge Cancer Care team.

2. Responsibly manage resources utilised within the role.

3. To publicise the facilities and activities of CLCC within the local provider trusts and in the wider community.

4. To ensure all activity delivered at CLCC is recorded on the database and provide regular updates to the Operations Manager and Trustees, helping to identify where there is unmet need in order that new services can be developed/commissioned.

5. To develop policies and procedures to assure the quality of information giving and support, including monitoring and evaluation systems that meet the highest standards, and is in line with activity across the North Central London Cancer Alliance.

6. To contribute to the Charity’s annual and strategic plans by working with the Operational Manager and Trustees to provide data & narrative that will assist in planning future service developments.

Training and Education

1. Support a positive learning environment for all staff – including volunteers.

2. To contribute to CLCC’s education programme by organising talks, seminars and workshops relating to cancer information and support.

3. To lead on the delivery of CLCC’s Induction Day for all staff and volunteers, evaluating its effectiveness by seeking and incorporating participant feedback.

4. Take responsibility for own learning and development needs.

5. Develop and maintain awareness of current local and national guidelines and workstreams which affect cancer information services, sharing a regular update with CLCC staff and Trustees.

6. Participate in regular clinical supervision and have responsibility for maintaining that supervision.

7. Attend management meetings, Trustees meeting and events as appropriate.

8. To understand and comply with all policies at CLCC including (but not exhaustive) Health & Safety, AL/TOIL, sickness reporting and monitoring and GDPR.

Research, Audit & Quality

1. To develop methods of obtaining useful feedback from people with cancer and other users of the service in order to provide high quality and responsive service, and to develop mechanisms to audit the effectiveness of the service.

2. To critically evaluate latest research and audit findings, disseminating these findings into practice in order to develop best practice and helping to support understanding by all (centre users and staff).

Personal Development

1. To maintain own expert level of competence.

2. To maintain current NMC registration by ensuring compliance with the NMC revalidation process.

3. To actively participate in the CLCC appraisal process.

4. To facilitate access to training for all volunteers within the service, working closely with the Volunteer Co-ordinator.

The primary purpose of this role is to help children and young people take practical steps to become more digitally resilient and be safer online. Our freelance School Engagement Officers introduce the highly impactful Breck’s story into schools and other youth and community spaces across the country and deliver inspiring, educational talks to students, parents and guardians, teachers, and other groups in a ‘whole community’ approach.

Breck Foundation is at the forefront of efforts to safeguard children and young people online. Our organisation was founded in 2014 in response to the tragic loss of Breck Bednar, a 14-year-old boy who was groomed and murdered by someone he met online. Our work aims to prevent this from ever happening again. Our work saves lives. We reach thousands of children and young people in schools and other community settings with Breck's story every year. Our talks and educational materials fill a gap in the current UK curriculum that otherwise leaves children vulnerable to online grooming and exploitation. With 98% of young people now active internet users, current and future generations grow up having to navigate new and evolving digital dangers. We are committed to making the internet a place where children can live, play, and thrive in safety. We are helping young people reclaim the internet. 

Training: All necessary training will be provided, and time spent in training will be compensated.

More specifically, the post holders will:

• Research speaking opportunities and engage/build sustainable relationships with schools and other youth spaces with the aim of securing speaking engagements (known as bookings).

• Work with the Breck Foundation team to set up all new speaking engagements and ensure set communication processes are met and all calendar entries completed.

• Maintain relationships with named contacts within schools and other youth spaces with a view to achieving repeat bookings.

• Where practical, to attend and deliver bookings at different locations using the Foundation’s standardised PowerPoint presentations, with a commitment to educate/raise awareness among young people, staff, parents & carers about the dangers young people face from online grooming through gaming and social media and other online harms. School Engagement Officer (Freelance) Role Description

• Where impractical to deliver bookings secured, to work with the Foundation team to ensure that the booking is assigned appropriately and delivered to a high standard.

• Represent the Foundation in a professional manner and to protect and advance the Foundation’s profile in all engagements, including to work collaboratively with other colleagues to identify new ways to raise awareness of the foundation’s mission and to help expand their scope, reach and geographical coverage and income generation capabilities.

• If delivering bookings, carryout pre- and post-delivery engagements, including sharing pre and post presentation packs with schools and actively seeking feedback, testimonials and even Vox Pops where possible; and to log these on Salesforce.

• Reporting of data to contribute to organisational impact, including using surveys to document statistics for each engagement, for example number of pupils reached by age group.

• Log all notable interactions with schools and other organisation and institutions in the relevant organisation’s Salesforce account to enable the team to avoid duplication and maintain professionalism in our engagements with them.

• Provide ad hoc services which may be requested from time to time.

We are at an exciting stage in our growth and are looking for a Finance & Admin Officer to support our growing operational workflows.

How you will make a difference

Your role will enable smooth and efficient financial and administrative workflows at GFI Europe. Reporting to the Head of Operations, your work will fall under the following categories:

50% of time – Payment processing and bookkeeping

• Making payments correctly and on time with respect to invoices, direct debit setup, expense reimbursements, as well as salaries and payroll taxes.
• Day-to-day bookkeeping, including registering journal entries and all financial transactions in our accounting software (currently Quickbooks), and supporting monthly reconciliations. 
• Coordinating the calculation and payment of quarterly reverse-charged cross-border VAT payments.
• Where there are opportunities for improvement, working in partnership with colleagues from the Operations team to implement systems that facilitate easier and more efficient payment processes.

25% of time – Budget forecast and reporting

• Forecasting regular and recurring expenses for the annual budgeting process and for periodic budget reviews.
• Preparing monthly updates on budget spending per department / project.
• Collaborating with our Development team to track and report against restricted donations.
• Organising information needed for the Belgium annual financial audit process as well as for UK financial reporting. 

25% of time – General administration

• Supporting governance, compliance and reporting for our Belgium entity, as well as the UK branch of GFI Europe and potentially other entities in the future.
• Supporting other departments with contract administration by inputting partnership data in templates, filling in relevant forms, coordinating signatures, organising and keeping track of finalised agreements.
• Performing other tasks as required as a member of our small, dynamic team. 

Who we’re looking for

You must have:

• A passion for GFI’s philosophy and mission.

• Attention to detail and commitment to deadlines: ensuring accurate and timely work, particularly with respect to numbers and entity-related information.
• Financial knowledge: good understanding of payment workflows and bookkeeping, having previously applied them in an administrative or finance-related role.
• Spreadsheet savviness: leveraging Excel and / or Google Sheets for financial analysis, reporting and forecasting purposes. 
• Ability to communicate financial information in a clear and simple manner: establishing the right level and format to share or ask for financial information within the team, as well as being able to address any questions that come up in a clear and simple manner.
• High degree of organisation and efficiency: running financial and administrative processes effectively, addressing challenges as they come up, and ensuring accurate and efficient organisation of documents and information.
• Excellent people skills: building strong, collaborative and positive relationships, and working well with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple cultures.
• Adaptability: openness to execute diverse financial and administrative tasks as they occur whilst maintaining the quality of recurring responsibilities; openness and a positive response to varying cultural norms and perspectives.

• Tech savviness: comfort using various software tools and platforms in a remote workplace, and a willingness to learn new systems. Training and support in Google Workspace, Quickbooks and Asana will be provided.

Benefits and the fine print

• Terms of employment: Part-time (27-30 hours / week). Flexible working hours.
• Location: We can consider applicants based in the UK or Belgium. This is a remote role, and you will be able to work from home, or anywhere you choose (within the UK or Belgium). We are happy to consider supporting costs for co-working to enable you to work from an office if you wish. The whole GFI Europe team aims to get together in person approximately twice per year for around 3-5 days at a time. Travel costs will be covered by GFI Europe within our travel policy.
• Salary and benefits: The salary and benefits package for all of our roles are researched and benchmarked based on similar nonprofit roles in the country/location of hire. Full-time (to be pro-rated) ranges (total amounts received in gross salary plus benefits including home-working allowance) are:
  • €2,500 – 3,000 monthly if based in Belgium, plus 13th month and holiday pay 
  • £31,600 – 36,000 annually if based in the UK

• will support our profile and links with current and potential partner organisations and take a key role in growing the profile and reputation of the charity.
• will recruit, manage and support a small but growing team of volunteer fundraisers and local ambassadors

In order to be successful, you must have experienced:

• Ideally, community/corporate fundraising experience in another charity or part of the voluntary sector. Or with the skills outlined above and developed in sales, marketing or other work experience
• Team leadership experience and supporting individual and project performance
• Excellent Communication skills both verbally and in writing and good IT skills
• Able to plan and implement fundraising events and initiatives ensuring supporter buy in and the careful monitoring of costs and income to ensure event profit and viability
•  Good at leveraging support from social media and other marketing and PR initiatives
