What’s the role about?
Located 6 miles away from Ballycastle, Rathlin Island is the only inhabited offshore island in Northern Ireland. Comprised of rugged cliffs, unimproved grassland and several lakes, Rathlin island is an idyllic workplace.
The team at the Rathlin Seabird Centre have been delivering exemplary visitor experience for over 16 years, making the reserve a serious opportunity for fundraising and membership recruitment.
As a core part of both the Rathlin team and the Face to Face membership teams, you be working alongside staff and volunteers to welcome visitors to the reserve and enthuse them about the conservation importance of the site. You will be expected to role model best practices for reserve fundraising to inspire new memberships for the RSPB.
Given that this position is based on Rathlin island, the ideal candidate will live within 20 miles of Ballycastle harbour. You don’t have to have fundraising experience - full training will be provided.
Expert knowledge of Northern Irish wildlife is not a pre-requisite, but a passion for conservation, an ability to employ effective communication skills and an eagerness to learn are essential.

Each day, you’ll:
- Travel to local venues using a company van (fuel and parking covered; average travel time up to one hour each way).
- Set up engaging and eye-catching fundraising stands.
- Chat with the public about nature and the mission.
- Inspire people to support through regular giving.
You’ll spend your days outdoors, meeting new people, and making a tangible impact for wildlife. It takes confidence and resilience - but it’s incredibly rewarding.

- Full training provided - no wildlife knowledge required.
- Stable salary (not commission-based).
- Company van for business use (all fuel and expenses covered).
- 34 days annual leave (including bank holidays, pro rata).

The Role
We are seeking a visionary, compassionate and inspirational Chief Executive Officer to lead YMCA Newcastle into its next chapter. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring that our organisation continues to deliver high-quality, impactful services while remaining financially sustainable.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the strategic development and operational delivery of YMCA Newcastle’s youth, housing and community services.
Managing supported housing provision.
Acting as the Ofsted Responsible Officer and ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards.
Overseeing financial management, budgeting, reporting and income generation.
Building strong partnerships with funders, local authorities, and community stakeholders.
Promoting, developing and expanding youth work provision across Newcastle – and, in time, Gateshead.
Leading and developing a multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of inclusion, safeguarding and continuous improvement.
Managing commercial interests, including a block of 22 flats in partnership with a managing agent.
About You
You’ll be a dynamic, values-driven leader with at least five years’ senior management experience in a complex or multidisciplinary organisation. You will combine strategic vision with hands-on operational understanding and have a track record of managing services for young people and/or housing provision. Financial acumen, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion are essential.
