ROLE SUMMARY
The Head of Fundraising & Events will contribute to the growth of upReach through the raising of significant funds; you will have oversight of income generation from various sources including major donors, individuals, trusts & foundations and a portfolio of events. The role will suit innovative individuals with significant experience of fundraising from major donors and at least one of the other specified income streams, and event planning.
You will represent upReach externally, advocating our work and building strategic relationships across our markets. You will be accountable for agreed income targets, developing the fundraising strategy and identifying new opportunities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Head of Fundraising & Events will support upReach's mission by meeting financial targets, recognising when to make the fundraising ‘ask’ and leading the annual budget process. You will use clear, creative written communication to produce convincing cases for support, represent the charity at relevant networking events, work closely with the upReach Development Board and act as an ambassador for the organisation.
Reporting to the Director of Income Generation and External Engagement you will manage three direct reports and support individuals participating in the Future Charity Leaders Programme (upReach’s graduate scheme). You will work closely with the CEO, Programmes and Finance teams and colleagues across the income generating and external engagement team.
The core responsibilities include:
Leadership and strategy

Lead income generation to realise financial targets in line with the overarching strategy, personal responsibility for securing 5 and 6 figure gifts.

Provide leadership and inspire staff and volunteers to excel and achieve, champion the upReach values and defined Leadership qualities.

Commit to the annual appraisal process, including deadlines and develop stretching, SMART OKRs (objectives and key results) to meet our strategic goals.

Deputise for the Director in their absence and play an active role in the Leadership team.

Lead the strategic and operational planning process for the functional areas of responsibility and ensure the involvement of relevant stakeholders.

Keep abreast of developments, changes in trends and patterns, new techniques and legislation. Take responsibility for own professional development.

Ensure planned activity is delivered in compliance with relevant charity law, other legislation, best practice and corporate policy.

Act as a senior sounding board to ensure strategic decisions regarding donors and funders resonate with our objectives and mission.

Contribute to strategic thinking including risk management and mitigation.

Collate and present timely monthly management reports for each income stream.

Lead the annual budget and financial forecasting processes to facilitate reporting and strategic-decision making.
Working with stakeholders (internal and external)

Collaborate with colleagues in the income generation and external engagement team to identify and secure all various income generating and profile raising opportunities, ensuring maximum impact and contribution from funders.

Lead, champion and model a culture of outstanding donor stewardship and supporter care; including best practice and behaviour.

Develop and foster effective relationships with key external contacts at all levels, e.g. donors, supporters, suppliers.

Make the fundraising ‘ask’ as and when appropriate, or support others to do so.

Respond promptly to requests for information and action from supporters.

Report and disseminate the key issues to emerge from supporter feedback.

Manage the complaints procedures for the department and conduct full investigation of all complaints received by the department.
Developing, maintaining systems and procedures

Determine and manage the operating systems needed to deliver activity and enable effective donor, supporter and volunteer relationship management.

Effectively develop the donor journey.

Ensure records in the CRM are up to date.

Conduct analysis of data from across functions responsible for, drawing conclusions, making recommendations to the Director.

Ensure the management of systems and processes comply with the organisation’s data protection obligations, charity law and other legal requirements.
People Management and Team Working

Recruit and lead the Fundraising & Events team, rotatees and volunteers as required.

Major Donors and Individuals

Develop and implement fundraising strategies to grow income.

Nurture relationships with donors including high net worth individuals maintaining the highest level of donor care.

Research, identify and engage prospective donors to secure 5 and 6 figure gifts.

Lead the team on increasing donors numbers and gift income.

Develop a legacies strategy and oversee delivery of awareness campaign.
Events

Oversee the delivery of a sector leading events portfolio, achieving 5 and 6 figure income targets and building a pipeline of future activity.

Lead the team on the delivery of multiple and complex events and activities at the same time including the Student Social Mobility Awards (SSMA’s).

Engage, steward and motivate key stakeholders including the Development Board, potential event committee members and other high value volunteers to grow our network and deliver successful fundraising events.
Trusts, Foundations & Corporates

Oversight of Trusts, Foundation & Corporate fundraising strategy.

Work with the Senior Fundraising Manager to identify and build relationships with Companies, Trusts and Foundations which are mission and/or programme aligned.

Support the acquisition of new, multi year funders and existing donors.
Other

We are looking for a permanent Gift Processing Coordinator and an interim Gift Processing Coordinator for a 12 month fixed term contract, to join the Finance team, focused on providing processing fundraising income at the Foundation, to support our three Charity brands - Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity, Evelina London Children’s Charity, and Guy’s Cancer Charity. Our fundraising is currently embarking on a period of growth with a strategy of investment and increased activity in order to achieve a step change growth in donation income.
This role will be primarily responsible for processing of all philanthropic donations to the Foundation efficiently and effectively. You will ensure all gift processing is completed to a high standard, coupled with the successful monthly reconciliation between the fundraising database and the charity bank account. Additionally, you will offer support to the Finance team in their mission to process and report financial information of the utmost quality. The Finance team is engaging, collaborative and supportive, as well as highly motivated and passionate about their work
Key Responsibilities
- Process donations onto the fundraising database meticulously, adhering to established guidance and procedures with exceptional accuracy.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring prompt and comprehensive responses to inquiries regarding gift processing, fostering constructive working relationships.
- Conduct visits to external fundraising sites to collect donations, including cash, employing responsible and secure procedures aligned with best practices.
- Import gifts and donor details from diverse fundraising platforms promptly, proactively identifying and rectifying any inaccuracies or errors.
- Monitor weekly banking activities and conduct monthly cumulative reconciliations, promptly investigating and resolving any discrepancies or issues.
- Collaborate with the Data and System Teams to develop and document gift processes, supporting any necessary system upgrades and refining processes as required.
- Deliver outstanding service to both internal and external stakeholders regarding gift processing inquiries, meeting response timeframes and resolving issues promptly.
- Support internal and external audits related to gift processing, promptly and comprehensively providing the required supporting documents.
- Provide assistance and perform other ad-hoc tasks as required within the Finance and Fundraising teams, contributing to a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Knowledge/ Qualifications
- Sound arithmetical abilities (Essential).
- Practical user experience with Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel (Essential).
- Previous use of Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising system (Desirable).
- CRM user (e.g. Salesforce) experience (Desirable).

- Minimum of 1 year’s working experience in the charity sector, ideally in gift processing function (Desirable).

The Role

Full Fact – Philanthropy Officer
Location: Remote working.

Full Fact, the independent fact checking charity, is seeking a fundraising professional to grow their impact and safeguard their independence by raising funds from charitable trusts and high net worth individuals.
Full Fact is a team of independent fact checkers and campaigners who find, expose and counter the harm it does – a team which has seen firsthand how bad information promotes hate, damages people’s health and hurts democracy. Full Fact fights for the right information to reach the people who need it most, whether that’s individuals making decisions about their health or who to vote for; or politicians debating the future of our country.
The Philanthropy Officer will create and manage their own portfolio of existing and potential philanthropy donors and use relationship building skills to create strong links with both new and existing donors, including delivering high quality stewardship and reporting on Full Fact’s successes. The post-holder will create and update detailed and persuasive cases for support for new and existing Full Fact projects and deliver successful events that align with Full Fact’s mission and increase engagement. The role will also involve forecasting potential income from the portfolio, prepare updates for the Board and setting and meeting effective objectives and key results for Full Fact’s fundraising.
The ideal candidate for this role will have two years of fundraising experience, preferably in trusts and/or major donor fundraising. You will have experience of writing compelling fundraising appeals and inspiring reports, and of designing and managing engagement events, as well as possessing a good understanding of working with philanthropists and charitable trusts. Your persuasive communication skills will be combined with the ability to build internal and external relationships with integrity and empathy and you will have an organised and proactive approach to work. Finally, you will be committed to the political neutrality of the organisation’s work and an understanding of public debate in the UK and sensitivity to the political context they work in.

This role is offered on a permanent basis paying a salary of £31,396- £37,099 per annum. This is a flexible hybrid role where you can work between home and Aberystwyth University.
Reporting to the Philanthropy Manager, the post holder will deliver integrated plans to increase the number of major donors giving to the university and embed a programme of proactive legacy giving activity and stewardship, to increase the number of gifts received in wills. They will manage a mid-level portfolio of individuals (including legacy prospects), maintaining relationships, producing prospect management plans for each individual and developing clear strategies to cultivate relationships and secure philanthropic support. The post holder will develop and present compelling and creative proposals through face-to-face meetings within the UK and internationally, presentations and fundraising events and written publications.
They are looking for someone with demonstrable experience of delivering major donor activity targeted at those capable of giving £25,000+. They are looking for a candidate with demonstrable experience of systematically approaching, cultivating, soliciting, and securing five figure gifts from major donor prospects. The ideal candidate will have experience of fundraising in a Higher Education context and demonstrate an on-going commitment to learn Welsh to C1 level.
This position will require both English and Welsh written and spoken communication (B2 Level).

Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia and Alzheimer’s disease research charity, is seeking a Head of Philanthropy to lead the organisation’s work with their philanthropy audiences including major donors, trusts and foundations.
Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) works to encourage debate, drive collaboration, and build partnerships across academia and industry that increase the probability of transforming discoveries from the lab bench into treatments for people living with dementia. Since funding their first project in 1998, the charity has now committed over £171 million of funding for ground-breaking dementia research.
As part of the ARUK Leadership Team, the Head of Philanthropy plays a pivotal role in leading the charity to accelerate progress towards a cure. Working closely with the senior stakeholders across ARUK, the post-holder will lead the organisation’s philanthropy work by defining and implementing the team’s strategy and ensuring that these plans support the charity’s vision, mission and strategic objectives.
The Head of Philanthropy will lead a team of approximately 8-10 people. The role holder will also personally lead on relationships with a small group of ARUK’s most generous supporters, and prospective supporters, across Philanthropy audiences.
The ideal candidate will have experience of managing a philanthropy team to deliver significant income growth, as well as demonstrable knowledge and experience of major gift fundraising. They will have a background in developing and implementing fundraising strategies and a proven track record in establishing, monitoring, and achieving ambitious fundraising targets.
Alongside excellent communication and planning skills, they will be highly motivated and target driven as well as being a strong team player who can work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. They will also possess strong negotiation, influencing and decision-making skills, with an ability to present arguments logically and confident and to inspire confidence and respect at all levels.

Peterhouse seeks to appoint a talented fundraiser as its new Development Director, a key position within the College.
The new Development Director will have the exciting opportunity to develop and shape a new fundraising and campaign strategy for the College. Working closely with the Master, Professor Andy Parker, you will ensure Peterhouse meets its significant fundraising potential.
In 2034, Peterhouse will reach its 750th anniversary and celebrate 50 years since the admission of women to the College.
