Job description

The Institute of Conservation (Icon) is seeking a Researcher to support its Conservation Skills at Risk project, which is being generously supported by the Pilgrim Trust.

This project aims to build a comprehensive understanding of the conservation workforce by identifying areas where specialist skills are most at risk, informing future training provision and sector advocacy.

Working closely with Icon staff, partners, and specialist groups, the Researcher will implement an established methodology to gather, analyse, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data across the conservation sector. Responsibilities include coordinating surveys, monitoring participation, maintaining accurate research records, analysing trends, and synthesising findings into clear, evidence-based outputs.

The postholder will also contribute to written reports, case studies, and public-facing communications, helping ensure the project achieves its milestones and delivers high-quality insights.

The postholder will report to the Policy and Programmes Director.
