Joe Lyons was a caring son, brother, a wonderful friend and a talented, award-winning Radio Producer. Known as “Producer Joe”, he became Senior Producer of the Roman Kemp Breakfast Show at Capital Radio. Very sadly in August 2020 Joe passed away in totally unexpected circumstances at just 31 years of age.

During Joe’s life he brought a cheeky spirit and constant laughter to all those that met him. His selflessness and commitment to helping others touched so many, and in loving memory and as a legacy to Joe, his friends and family set up Joe's Buddy Line in January 2021.

We are now looking for a resilient, driven and inspirational individual to provide energy, strategic vision and operational management for our small and growing charity.

The successful candidate will bring a track record of effectively overseeing the day to day service delivery for a small charity, prudent financial management and an innovative approach to source and secure new opportunities for the Charity.

It is essential that the post holder must also be able to help us transition from a predominantly volunteer led charity to a vibrant fully sustainable organisation with salaried staff.

Fundraising Public Relations Officer

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic PR and marketing professional in our London fundraising office to design and deliver creative, multi-channel, integrated fundraising and PR campaigns designed to significantly increase the Hospital’s voluntary income.

The success of this role will be dependent on engaging and building meaningful long-term relationships with both existing and new supporters through effective donor stewardship, attending events, and networking.  

The successful candidate will work in conjunction with a small, dedicated team to provide fundraising, comms, and event support to our community fundraising groups.  

High quality comms and media are going to be central to our plans to go public in a big way in 2024.  Creating high-quality, impactful, and engaging content for multimedia platforms will be key. You’ll be able to identify stories from across the organisation, draw out information and ideas from others, and successfully turn complicated or clinical information into clear, simple, and compelling narratives.  

The role requires a creative thinker with exceptional communication and leadership skills.

Main responsibilities:

Fundraising

· Develop and implement integrated fundraising, marketing and PR campaigns designed to significantly increase the Hospital’s voluntary income.

· Create and promote compelling and engaging content for web, social media, and email – ensuring that all comms have clear goals and outcomes.

· Manage the key relationships with the Guild fundraising Committee and the SOA fundraising committee including comms, marketing, and event support as well as helping to manage the key relationships with the Knights Templar sub-groups, and the County Priory Groups across the UK.  

· To put in place measures for evaluating the effectiveness of all fundraising, PR and marketing activity ensuring robust data collection, analysis procedures, and making suggestions for improvements where required.

· Manage the production of key organisational publications – including, the Jerusalem Scene magazine, Annual Report, Strategic Plan, Annual Leaflet, and other promotional materials.

· To work closely with the Executive Head of UK Office and project partners to deliver a new website, contributing expertise and ideas in regard to its look, feel and functionality.

· Take responsibility for the ongoing management and maintenance of the website, working with external consultants where required to resolve issues.  

· Understand and apply the principles of up-to-date SEO.

· Working with colleagues in Jerusalem to maintain a bank of compelling messages, narratives, and case studies for use across all external communications.

PR & Media

· To actively promote the charity’s fundraising endeavours including drafting all external and internal messaging to both new and existing supporters – e.g. email campaigns, newsletters, invitations, letters, speeches, presentations etc. for senior staff and volunteers.

· Managing press and media opportunities related to SJEHG’s fundraising activities.  

· Cultivate and maintain relationships with press and media, proactively pitching stories to secure media coverage, drafting press releases, media plans, articles, and other materials for SJEHG’s fundraising activities.

· To provide counsel and advice to senior leadership on external and internal messaging, as required.

Other

· To assist with the management of the marketing budget, monitoring expenses, ensuring cost effectiveness, seeking to maximise return on investment.

· To keep accurate records and help ensure effective data management processes across the organisation.

· Collaborate effectively with colleagues and a wide range of individuals and organisations.

· To uphold and enhance the charity’s brand identity through consistent messaging, and visual elements across all communication channels and materials.

· Promote innovation and best-practice in marketing communications, with a strong focus on the external environment and trends.

We are seeking an experienced and successful fundraiser who has creative communication skills to join our team in the role of a Fundraising and Communications Manager.

This person will be responsible for the fundraising and communications function of the organisation, helping us to secure income via individual and community fundraising and charitable trusts and foundations as well as taking initiative to develop and grow into new areas of fundraising to help maintain and grow our services to survivors.

This post will also lead on internal and external communications and marketing to engage with internal and external stakeholders, including communities, donors, grant makers, supporters and professionals who feel as passionately about the need to support survivors of sexual assault and abuse as we do.

As well as creating compelling content for our core communications platforms, you’ll also provide valuable support to our ambitious press plan, helping to amplify the voice of Pilgrims’ Friend Society in local and national media.

You will lead the development of our hub and spoke model, with an enhanced offer of national resources and support together with a continued focus on on-the-ground support for kinship carers to set up and sustain a network of peer support groups. You will ensure all members of the team have clarity and are empowered to meet new targets and ways of working.

The role will also lead on the strategic development of peer support approaches in Wales (for which we are seeking funding), ensuring innovation and good practice is shared across the nations.

Kinship peer support groups are powerful levers for change in local, regional and national ecosystems. Your team will ensure that every kinship carer in England and Wales has access to a peer support group, or support to set up and create their own. The team will be purposeful about offering developmental support to all kinship peer support groups, including independent groups, ensuring they remain or become sustainable. And that they have resources, training and peer networks to support this.

Reflecting our strategic focus on developing our Kinship Community of more than 10,000 kinship carers across England and Wales, you will lead a new community strategy, co-ordinating the development of opportunities for community connection and community power. This will include taking leadership for developing the Kinship model of community engagement and integrating across all our ‘in person’ and digital services and activities.

You will ensure a collaborative approach with services, alignment with national and local campaigning activity, and work closely with marketing and communications colleagues to support kinship carer reach and engagement with our community offer.

We’re taking an integrated approach to our services, so you’ll collaborate well across teams to ensure that support groups and their leaders have easy access to high quality advice, information and training. The team will need to work closely with colleagues delivering our new training and support contract, funded by the Department for Education.

Key responsibilities include:

• Innovation of the Peer Support Service.

• Develop and rollout peer support and community strategy and operational plan. 

• Implement monitoring and evaluation and impact tools for timely and accurate reporting of activity and engagement.

• Work with the Development team to develop proposals for the community and peer support which are ready for fundraising and business development.

Essential requirements include:

• Substantial experience in scaling a national service or programme with high quality outputs. This includes overseeing delivery, strategic planning, budgeting, managing delivery, meeting KPIs, stakeholder engagement and reporting to funders.

• Experience of governance and managing risk on high profile service delivery.

• Experience of effective budget management.

• Significant experience of leading the development and delivery of peer support services.
