Job description

Safeguarding Adviser

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work for an organisation that makes a difference? An organisation that nurtures its staff, encourages development and rewards staff for their hard work. If the answer is yes, then this is the place for you!

We are seeking a skilled and experienced professional to join the safeguarding team in this crucial role.

This is hybrid-working role, with flexibility to work from home for up to 40% of the working week.

Position: Area Safeguarding Adviser

Location: Oxford/hybrid

Hours: Part-time, 30 hours per week

Salary: £44,056.31 pro rata (actual £35,721.33)

Contract: Permanent

Closing Date: Sunday 9 June 2024

Interview Date: Monday 24 June 2024

The Role

The organisation is fully committed to the protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in the life of the Church in the second-largest diocese in England.  The safeguarding adviser will manage safeguarding referrals and undertake casework within Oxfordshire. The casework will involve situations of current and past abuse which occurred within a church context and ensure survivors of abuse have access to support and services.

The role will involve advising church officers and clergy in dealing with safeguarding concerns and ensuring that practice is in line with national Church of England policy and guidance.

About You

We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team, has excellent interpersonal skills and will want to promote best practice within safeguarding.  You will work alongside parishes as they ensure that churches are safe for all by providing support, advice and guidance.

You do not need to be a practising Christian or have a faith to work with us - around 50% of staff are not practising Christians but are comfortable with the Christian ethos that underpins the work it does. However, all staff do have a desire to make a difference.

The ideal candidate will be a professionally qualified caseworker in a field relevant to safeguarding such as social work, social justice, police work, or probation with current registration where applicable.  You will have the ability to demonstrate transferrable knowledge across the client groups, as well as experience working with victims or survivors of abuse is a must.

Please note this role does require the post holder to have the ability to travel within a large geographical and sometimes within rural areas where there is no access to public transport when required.

The Organisation

The Diocese is the administrative area of the Church, broadly speaking, covers the three counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire. There are 815 churches in the Diocese – more than any other diocese in the Church of England. So, in many ways the best description is that it is the family of the 55,000 or so regular worshippers in these churches.

Benefits:

  • 25 days holiday per annum, pro rata, rising each year by one day to a maximum of 30 days, pro rata,
  • In addition to the statutory UK public holidays, the Diocese offers three privilege days
  • Hybrid working
  • Free parking and subsidised on-site café
  • Generous employer pension contribution of 12.5% which includes death in service benefit (5% Employee Contribution)
  • Electric car and cycle-to-work salary sacrifice schemes
  • Access to wellbeing support via Employee Assistance Programme
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies and a generous sick pay provision
  • Access to low-interest financial services from Churches Mutual Credit Union including loans
  • An attractive modern working environment

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. If you do not hear back, your application has not been successful.

You may also have experience in areas such as Safeguarding, Safeguarding Officer, Safeguarding Advisor, Safeguarding Caseworker, Caseworker, Social Worker, Social Caseworker, Social Justice Caseworker, Probation Officer, Police, Social Services, Social Welfare, Church, Faith, Charity.

PLEASE NOTE: This role is being advertised by NFP People on behalf of the organisation.
